MK DONS 1st leg build-up

Wemberley, Wemberley, Wemberley etc etc

I know there's been a long running Final thread and one on the Away board, plus Ticket threads, but it's Monday now and it's my birthday and i'm treating myself.

I think we will draw the 1st Leg.

Hopefully a great atmosphere from our travelling fans and a good reaction from the team after the last second disappointment at Millwall.

Don't forget it's a 7.00pm kick-off

Getting excited & very nervous about our midfield.

Would have felt so much more confident with Hammond.

James needs to replace Hammond with Thomas at right back.

Wotton to play in a 5 man midfield. Waigo & Lallana or Holmes on the flanks.

Lambert as lone striker.

This will sneak a 0:1 win

You absolutely cannot underestimate MK Dons, who are a very good team, and we're not playing well either. However over two legs, I think we can do them. The players know that this will probably be the best chance in their careers to play at Wembley and they won't want to lose that feeling.

Tomorrows game will be tough though. I'm hoping for a draw and a win in the home leg. 1-1

It's helpful that we don't have a league game on Saturday as this gives Pardew the opportunity to play a full strength side (cup tied player excepted). If we had a league game on Saturday I trust that Pardew would rest a few of our key players as we should still be concentrating on the league 100%

Really? Given that cosy mid table is what we're destined for surely a cup semi final would take priority now?

Anybody got any good chants for MK?

"i've got a shed thats bigger than this..."? lol.

OR

"World cup, your having a laugh"

Cant wait to get there tomorrow, driving up around 2pm to make sure the M25 doesn't slow us down, couple cheeky beers from the Asda over the road and a look about Ikea before the stadium opens.

1-1 draw is what i'm calling, they score first though.

Just stay in the hunt please Saints. Any result other than a loss - I would take. MK Dons will be confident after just smashing Hartlepool 5-0, so we will need to get in their faces early on just to give them a reality check that it won't be happening again for them. Shut them out for the opening half hour and they could get frustrated, in turn that could help us gain a good result out of this one. COYR

To reach Wembley this season would be an achievement for us, to reach the playoffs would be exceptional for us, I agree with know your limits but always try to exceed them but right now I'd go with mid table finish and the JPT trophy.

i've got a really horrible feeling if we go a goal up early we will end up losing 2 or 3 one, saints have a habit of scoring then taking their foot off the gas.. this will then lead to us being under immense pressure in the home leg, i'm thinking, let them score first, then us nick one back before half time, then to score another in the second, setting us up nicely for a home win ..in all honesty though I can actually see us losing this

heart = 2 - 1 saints

head = 2 - 1 dons

For a couple of months, you always had the feeling that Saints had an extra gear if we needed to use it. Not at the moment.

Goals were coming from the whole team - Lallana, Papa, Connolly, Hammond, even Harding and Trotman. Fix it Pards, you know you can.

Got a really bad feeling about this game. MK Dons will be right up for this with nothing to lose. Our form of late has been anything but inspiring....hate to say it but i can see us losing this game and badly!

Well that has depressed me, but I think they have more riding on a playoff place so could be in two minds.

I think the Leeds game will be interesting tonight as I think thier priority is in the league and will be aware of a mini wobble!

Could be against Carlisle in the Final and all the way up until the weekend I thought there was no way that Leeds would not make it... now I have my doubts!

I think Pards will go with 4-5-1 for the game.

Back four of: Thomas - Fonte - Perry - Harding.

Midfield: James - Lallana - Morgan - Holmes - Wooton.

Lambo up front.

Bench: Bart -Antonio - Connelly - Gobern - Mills - Papa - ?

Then again - Pards has a habit of springing a surprise or two! I have a firm belief that it will end 1-1.

I'm sure it must have been on here before and I've missed it, but does anyone know if away goals count extra in these area finals if all equal after both games?

I don't think they do. They shouldn't anyway. The Away goals rule is pretty dopey in European games but utterly ridiculous in domestic football.

-----------Davis-------------

James--Perry--Fonte--Harding (Mills if not fit)

----------Wotton------------

------Morgan--Lallana--------

Waigo-----------------Holmes

----------Lambert------------

Subs: Bart, Thomas, Gobern, Connolly, Antonio

That's what i'd play anyway. I assume that Harding and Lallana will shake off their knocks, like somebody said in the other thread, Pardew has said that players are doubtful before yet still played them anyway. Harding and Lallana are two key players for us, and with Seabourne and Otsemobor cup tied and Hammond and Jaidi injured, we're very short on options.

Exactly! Yes, Pardew has consistently said he's taking all cup games seriously & fielding strong teams this season & I'm sure Cortese encourages this seeing as he spoke about our trophy cabinet contaning a sword (WTF?) & a distinct ambition for the club to start filling it with Trophies.

Also, I think most logical fans (???) realise the play offs now seem unlikely, unless our performances show a dramatic turn around *fingers, toes & eyes crossed* & we rekindle that winning form we hit earlier in the season. Whilst the league is of prime importance, I'm not sure why Trousers would throw away our cup chances in favour of the league because, as

Jonny suggests, it's likely we'll finish mid-top half in the table, possibly just short of the play offs. A cup win or strong FA cup run would benefit the club & team morale greatly, as well as galvanising the squad in preperation for a strong campaign & impetus to win League One next season.
