Pardew to Celtic?

Was watching SSN paper review.

The journo pointed out a piece in the daily record about Celtic wanting Pardew. Aparently his old assistant at West Ham is there?

He also went on to say if AP stays (which I think he will) people should put their money on us being L1 champs next year.

Bit hard when were going up this year I thought

Celtic really think they are big-time with significant pulling power..

FFS, League One is more of a challenge than the SPL nowadays.

And who wants European football if its going to be a first-round ritual humiliation ?

and with only 1 team getting champions league spot, its even less attractive

Although Celtic is a step up on paper its hard to see them going much further forward. For years the Old Firm have been at the top of the Scottish leagues and in and out of Europe. Will they ever step up from that?

Saints are obviously on the up and potentially could be competing at as high a level as the old firm or even higher in just a few years.

I know things can change in football quickly but IMO Pards would be off his head if he chose to leave and go to Celtic. If he gets us into the play-offs this year or automatic promotion next year (which seems to be what is expected) he has the chance to make a charge for the prem. The Owner has already shown he will back the team so the possibility of us challenging for Europe is very real and the Saints top job must be a sought after job now. More so than the Celtic job IMO.

The celtic job and rangers job, these days are no more than a managerial death sentance.

The fact that they both only really compete with each other and are expected to win every concievable competition (bar Europe) in order to keep the fan base happy, on top of that they also need to beat each other, whom they play about 4 times a year.

Honestly, Cletic and Rangers would never be an attraction to me if i was in Pardews position, and even Lamberts position.

The SPL these days is a joke, they would be better off combining the SPL, welsh and irish leagues to make it more competetive. (they are not welcome in the english leagues ;) )

Scottish football is a joke and some of the teams in the SPL would get a good hiding from us. Pardew won't go there, he would know that if he didn't win the league next season with them he would be facing the sack. Plus why would he want to go and live up there, not going to happen.

Really think this thread is a joke. Can't see AP wanting to go to Scotland, he doesn't seem to even be interested in going north of Watford, he's a southern lad, and clearly prefers to work where he wants to live, around London. I guess he might consider Manure, Citeh or Liverpool if offered but about as likely as Barca I would think. AP's star is in the ascendency again with the media hacks and the footballing world, seen as doing a great job here, he would be follish to leave, and NC would be follish to push him out.

As indeed is Ross County ! ;)

I tend to agree with the poster who points out AP's "southern roots" as being one good reason (out of many) why he would not go to Celtic

Don't bother AP' date=' if you're tempted. Just look at Tony Mowbray; 8 months and then it was the dole.[/quote']

with possibly £1.6m worth of compensation coming his way. What are we paying AP, and how long would it take for him to earn that kind of money I wonder?

My Granny is also in the running for the Celtic job: despite the fact that she passed away in 2001

We don't half get some cobblers written in the papers " Righto Celtic need a manager boys whos in the frame?" "Hang on a mo boss Charlie is just finishing the analysis".......................... Charlie looks up from the News of the Screws footie supplement results page, having scanned who's team is hot and who's is not right down to the Unibond league!

Sky Sports ticker says that he refused to comment...

Not a good sign imo.

Pardew would be mad to leave a job with the little pressure he is under here to achieve. If he went to Celtic he would be under massive pressure to achieve and nothing but top of the league will do as Tony Mowberry has just found out to his cost. He really has a chance to build something here with the money he has available.

I would be very surprised if Pardew went to Celtic. I don't think there is anything in it.

I'll proberly get crucified on here, but I believe that Celtic is a massive job, compared to a League 1 Saints. 50,000 every week and guaranteed European football and Cup Finals. Saints in CCC is a different kettle of fish, but if we're still in League one you can see the attraction. If we're third in this League come Xmas people will be calling for his head. He'll be going there at the right time and not like WGS who had to follow Martin O Neil.

Look at it from a neutrals point of view, Celtic or League 1 Saints?

Personally I think they'd be better of with Avram Grant.;)

Without being too disrespectful to SPL i remember on one of the BBC sport programmes when the SPL split was being discussed. They asked people like Hansen what level he thought the league would be without Rangers and Celtic and he said around the bottom of league 1 and top of league 2. I thought that was a bit harsh but he explained they don't have the attendances because they don't have the stadiums and thus the ability to make money to buy better players is not there.

Looking at the average of attendances if you remove Celtic and Rangers it makes pretty grim reading. The top team would be Hearts with 14k followed by Aberdeen with 12k. Then comes a massive drop to Kilmarnok who have 5k. 5 of the teams in the SPL have an average of just 2k. That is awful for a supposed top flight league. To put that into context 20 teams in League 2 have higher attendances then that.

Point being the level of football in SPL is low. No great managers want to go and manage there. Look at Mowbray. He got the Celtic job just a month after getting WBA relegated.

I can't see someone like Pardew interested in that. Right now Saints has to be one of the best jobs out there. You got a great fanbase, nice south coast location easily commutable to surrounding areas including london, got zero debt, a good stadium, one of the richest guys in the world bank rolling you, the 5th richest club in England, in league one. And can now add to that a good team. The potential here is massive. If seen through to the end there is no reason to see why we could not do what clubs like Spurs,Villa,Everton etc.. are doing. We are clubs similar in size. We just lacked the money guy.

I think he will try and hold onto this job for as long as he possibly can.

This is a rumour spread by Huddersfield as they are scared!

If I were them - promotion or not -I'd just be counting the weeks, days before Lee Clark is linked with, and leaves for the inevitable job at Newcastle.

I'll proberly get crucified on here, but I believe that Celtic is a massive job [agreed]compared to a League 1 Saints. 50,000 every week[?] and guaranteed European football[for one game] and Cup Finals.

Look at it from a neutrals [he is English, and has never played for Celtic,he would not be a neutral, but an outsider] point of view, Celtic or League 1 Saints?

Personally I think they'd be better of with Avram Grant.;)

Joking aside Grant might infact meet their criteria, champions league final experience etc.

This would probably be a big mistake if AP went to Celtic, but a decision is likely to be governed by huge £on offer, and ego in believing how he can raise this "giant" etc...rather than asking how far it has taken WGS and Mowbray in furthening their careers.

There was an interview with AP in October/November where he admitted to being attracted to managing "overseas",I would have thought he wanted somewhere a little more exciting and warmer than Scotland.

If Pards turned Celtic down to stay at League one Saints, 99% of football supporters in the Country would think he was barmy.

We know we're on the brink of something here, and let's hope Alan feels the same way. However, as much as I dont want to think about it, I dont think anyone managing in League 1 will turn them down (Let's assume Norwich are going up). At the end of the day it'll depend on what they want and what they can afford. They appear to be in the mire financialy, so will proberly wait to see whose available for free in the summer.

I beleive the next month and a half is the most important in this Clubs history for many a year.If we can sneak into the play offs and win them, all talk of people leaving will go out the window. None of our players will attract bids from premier League sides, unless it's the Wigans and Boltons of the world, and I seriously think players would turn them down if we were one season away from the top flight ourselves. Same with Pards, with ML's money, the squad and support we have, in the CCC this is a great job.
