Fresh from loan at Southampton in the English Second Division, the Senegalese striker N'Diaye Papa Waigo will now make him want to understand what Fiorentina and Genoa-owner of his label. The most likely hypothesis is currently the repurchase by Fiorentina who then could transfer the entire right in the Southampton player's card.

I just copied the translation, I know he isn't called Pope!!!

Im not sure whether it means:

1. Fiorentina and Genoa co-own him and Fiorentina are going to attempt to take 100% ownership.

Or...

2. Fiorentina are going to gain 100% ownership so they can sell him to us.

In Italy you can have a situation where a player is co-owed by two clubs although only registered to play for one.

Papa Waigo is it "seems" co-owned by Fiorentina AND Genoa.

The article in the opening post of this thread I think is suggesting that Fiorentina plan to buy out Genoa's half of Papa Waigo so they fully own him and then sell him to Saints.

I thought we had a loan for the season with option to buy at a fixed price arrangement (or are too many Old Speckled Hens playing tricks with my memory bank  ).

I wonder if that agreement (if indeed it did exist !!) had an expiry date on it and took into account this extra buyout fee?

I for one would love to have him (and Antonnio) back. It has been forever since we had genuine impact players on the bench who could come on and change the whole game.

I wonder how The Pope would feel playing in a sash though :scared:

I've asked an Italian speaker and they have confirmed that the article says it means Fiorentina and Genoa co-own him and Fiorentinta want to buy out Genoa's share so they can sell him to Southampton.

according to my patchy italian - his lawyer/agent seems to be ruling out a return to england here...

There was a button "Translate This Page" so I clicked it, like you do!

The headline indicates he WOULD return to Southampton, the text says he won't. Confusing or what?

Fiorentina ag.Papa Waigo: "I will return to Southampton"

Constantine Nicoletti, attorney Waigo Pope confirms the fact that his client would not return to England.

The agent of the exterior offensive Senegal, reached exclusively by Firenzeviola, answers questions about the intentions of Fiorentina and Genoa, co-owner of his card: "I exclude a return to Southampton. Genoa and Fiorentina are still discussing it - said Nicoletti - and the player could fall in any negotiation for Donadel. In case of repurchase by Fiorentina, although there are some requests from two Italian clubs and two foreign, could also stay in Florence, especially when starting Comotto. But everything will be decided when the director Corvino will once again be in Florence and will be the position of the player, is the cheapest of which I spoke. "

It says that, having returned from loan to Southampton, Papa will want to know what his future is, and that the most likely hypothesis is Fiorentina buying out Genoa so they can sell Papa to Saints. Doesn't say, in other words, that Fiorentina actually plan to do this, or that Papa wants this; it just offers a theory based on ... who knows what?

The translating system is crap: the head line of that article reads "Papa Waigo: Non tornera al Southampton", which means: "Papa Waigo: I will not return to Southampton". So if that's a true quote, that would seem to be that.

So, in the other article the agent says he won't return to Southampton; there is interest from 2 Italian and 2 foreign clubs and he might even stay at Fiorentina if Comotto goes. But..

"Tutto però verrà deciso quando il direttore Corvino sarà nuovamente a Firenze e valuterà sia la posizione del calciatore, sia le offerte di cui ho parlato.”

But everything will be decided when the director Corvino is back in Firenze and assesses the the player's position and the offers I spoke about.

According to the Firenze local rag the team want to sell another 6 players (not including PW) to free up money for the coach to spend on big names, but no offers yet. So I reckon they still want to sell and Southampton probably have as good a chance as any club if we really want him. I can't see those other offers being bigger, given the crowds and money in italian football, unless one of the foreign teams after him is in Germany.

It says "non tonerà" and not "non tornerò" so it's "Papa Waigo will not return..."

Anyway, I really doubt that we'll be falling over ourselves to sign Papa, nowhere near sharp enough in front of goal on a consistent basis, scored a few, missed a whole lot more easy ones, like against Skate. There is no doubt more suitable which comes cheaper and more easily.

I doubt he would want to come back. We hardly ever played him and when we did it was often out wide where he looked a lot less comfortable. I'm not sure I agree with Window Cleaner about him not being sharp in front of goal. He was a proper fox in the box, especially in the cup games when he was given playing time. He did miss a chance or two - who desn't?

Agreed, I'd have him back. When teams come to St. Mary's with 2 banks of 4 and go for a 0 - 0, he is unpredictable enough to turn the game. Remember the last second equaliser against Norwich in the JPT - he's the kind of player who can do something different when we're looking predictable and really penetrate a defence.

Yes, indeed. Not sure why Pards didn't give him more match time either.

Watch the videos on youtube of all our goals last season, you will see just how much he contributed to the side. It was very impressive.

Same with Antonio - people seem to forget how important the two of them were. I admit, even I did till I saw that video.

thats a bit harsh imo, the skate "miss" was more like a blinding save by james from what looked like a perfect/textbook header, I'll still never know how he kept that out, I thought it was there.

It was a decent save decent. One which he shouldn't have had a chance of saving and wouldn't have had if the header wasn't so gash...

cant agree with that at all, Papa did exactly what a forward is supposed to, kept his header on target but low and wide of the keeper. I couldnt believe it when james dug that one out of the air.

My feeling is that the reported £500k price tag was way too much for us to consider him and his performances, while good, were not good enough to value him that highly. For that amount of money you would get a very good CCC level player or go a long way to paying the wages of someone like Adu for example, who would actually attract a lot of attention and put more bums on seats.

Well we could spend ages arguing the various advantages /disadvantages of Waigo. Personally I think he's probably worth it. I'd like to pull you up on Adu though - it's this close season's interweb wet dream and will never happen. We'd never get a work permit even if we did agree a deal to bring him here - doesn't he need to have played 75% of his countries games to qualify for a permit? The guy didn't get into the US world cup squad. Is he actually any good anyway? He was a marketing tool for Nike when he was a kid - didn't live up to the hype and hasn't really done much since.
