Le Tissier Snubbed ticket for United game ?

I am clearly a fan of Le Tissier (as you can tell from my user name) but Matt said some less than nice things about Cortese over the last 18 months. If I were Cortese I wouldn't be jumping through hoops for Le Tiss, granting him his every wish.

When?

Where do I start...? :D

Whilst on the Soccer Saturday panel on Sky, during live coverage of games, radio interviews and in newspaper articles (local and national).

Examples...

Many more where they came from, just here what he says about Cortese next time Jeff Stelling asks him about the club. It is surprising that the article in the opening post makes it sound like Matt is surprised. Surely he must realise Cortese doesn't like him after numerous smears on his character? If I were Cortese, I wouldn't be handing Le Tissier freebies.

Matthew should learn not to bite the hand that feeds him...free tickets ;)

Bloody ridiculous.

He was offering to pay as well? Ex-players should be able to be flagged on the database. I dont believe in freebies. They all got paid a salary for playing for us. But, they cant be treated as random members of the public.

I have 3 tickets, he can have them.

While its nice to think that past players and there familiys can be treated well by the club and can be acomodated when ever it suits, its also nice to know that they are not being put above the fans who have plowed their own money into the club for years and being part of making the ex players their money and public status.

Think the pair of them need to grow up though and sort this kind of stuff out privatly. NC is never going to win over our love of Le Tiss but likewise Le Tiss is never going to win over the person who saved our club and is aiming for champions league football for us!

I see a very polarised debate coming up.

I think we had better get used to the fact that, like it or not the current executive chairman of Southampton FC will not make a special case for probably our greatest ever player.

I think this goes back to Pinnacle or at least started then. There is no doubt Pinnacle's involvement in the takeover did not impress the Liebherr camp, who were unfairly put on the back burner.

I make no comment on the rights and wrongs of all this - just a little sad it has happened, but modern day football seems to have less and less time for tradition, sentamentality or loyalty to the past.

Cortese would have to do far more than get us into the Champions League to be considered anywhere near the level of Matt.

Matt was a real one of a kind, Cortese while doing well enough is really nothing special.

Yes I agree with what you are saying but I dont really see why MLT should be given/sold ten tickets for his mates

A ridiculous comment. Would you like a CEO like Lowe or Wilde again ?

And I reckon getting us into the Champions League would match some of Mattys achievements.

I think we've got one. Might have access to a bit more money than our old friend but some of his working methods are similarly deranged.

And it isn't a criticism. A football club could do a lot worse than a Rupert Lowe with lots of money, which is what we have.

Lastly, Saints buying their way into the Champions League will still not match the contribution made by MLT. Getting into the CL will be a team effort. Matty was one man. They'll be a statue of him out outside our ground long before there's ever one of some beady eyed Swiss/Italian/whateverthef***heis.

LOL at the line "the person who deals with ex-players wasn't available". This wasn't Gerry Forrest ringing up, you'd assume people on the end of a phone line at SFC should know who MLT is.

Lowe and Wilde both done a very poor job for the majority... Cortese is doing well, just nothing special. There is a difference.

Lets be honest we aren't going to be getting Champions League football anytime soon.

out of interest was this not the fault of the administrator or were pinnicle instrumental in the opposition being ignored? Matt may have backed the wrong horse, but I never really understood why Cortese and him started *****ing at each other. Was Matt not interested only in Saints surviving or did he have very strong interests in `doing well' out of any buyout?

Matty has already done his thing, Cortese getting us into the Champions League, well that's to be seen.

No dobt about it Matt's contribution as a player is legendary. And for that he will ALWAYs be held in high esteam

BUT... unlike the gentlemen of old such as Ted, ex players in the modern age seem to get involved in all sorts of activties, media, business interests and providing 'comment and analysis' on their ex clubs. And in Matts case spearheading a group that did nearly stifle the Leibherr groups takeover.

If ex players are going to get involved in these activities, and it causes friction with the currrent regime, are they really surprized that its not all suddenly forgotten when they are after tickets?

Any 'snub' if you can call it that, is basd on Matt's activities long AFTER he stopped being a player for us and legend status with fans, is not going to mask the public criticism... as somebody above said, why bite that hand that feeds?

Finally 10 Tickets? For mates who are therefore not regulars? Probably plastic Mancs? Even if they are Saints fans, should they get priority over fans who go to games on a regular basis...that is another point in all this.

If you want to give up your ticket, thats up to you, but apart from the usual brovado, how many actually would...

Indeed. If this was anyone else there'd be outcry on here. I assume Matt and his friends would also have attended the Carlisle game....? oh.....

This sort of things makes us look laughing stock right across the country .............!

disagree. think Matt looks bad. Here, where most idolise him, he doesn't get much support - around the country will be seen as another greedy rich footballer wanting favours

Matt was a great player and showed more loyalty than your average footballer (let's not forget he did sign for spurs but his mrs made him change his mind).

Matt works for sky and is therefore a journalist, he could get himself a ticket for any game he wanted.

He is a fan but why does he want to come to the man utd match and not Tranmere away? If this was another fan he would be getting called all sorts on here.

Finally 10 tickets for his mates? Don't they have customer numbers? Don't they go to matches themselves? If they were fans you would have thought they would all ready have their tickets. I have my 3 due to sitting on the bloody phone.

Sorry Matt can come, bring a mate maybe even 2 if he must but the other 7 can watch it on tv.

It says in the article that he agreed to buy the link tickets for the Carlilse game it's not like he was asking for freebies he bought tickets for the Man U and the carlisle game.

10 tickets? IF he gets 10 why shouldnt I? Allow him to by 2-4 but 10 is taking the Tiss in my opinion. Who are these other 9 people that deserve to go more than any other saints fan just because they happen to know MLT

and if they are Utd fans in the saints section? i know if i bought 10 tickets and many were away fans i could risk losing my season ticket.

MLT is a hero and seems still to love the club, but why does he keep letting these things get into the media?
