READING build up thread

Saints have just beat Liverpool and Chelsea. Reading have lost 6 in a row and have a manager in charge we've just sacked. I think we all know where this is heading. :(

I'd agree though that a win will all but keep us up and send them down. I'd be happy enough with a draw but I can't really think of a team I'd rather play right now. they have looked awful for quite a while and yesterday they made Gervinho look world class.

So did we TBF!

In the blue corner we have Nigel Adddddddddddddddd-kins

In the red corner we have Morichio Pocheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet-tino

Right lads I want a good clean fight - no biting or gouging

The game will last 90-mins - with a 15 to 20-minute break after 45-mins

No extra time - the score after 90+ minutes will stand

Go to your technical areas and do your best

For me it's Pochetino by a technical knock out!

Should we play as well as yesterday then we should massacre them. Their back four is poor, and Pearce (we should know) is static at the back, Lambert and JRod will be all over him. Could be a fair amount of goals in this one.

p.s. I think if we win, we are safe.

p.p.s. We have to keep the Adkins love-in to a minimum, the current manager and squad need our support. Adkins deserves polite applause before the game (no chanting), then he becomes the enemy.

Every sign & portent spells doom. Not just the NA, previous games omens, but even the omens over here.

Eric's first game in the pub for a couple of weeks - he has missed all our demolitions of the Top Teams through work.

Damascus Saint coming to the game - has never seen us win.

FMDP's last game of the season before heading home to prepare everything for the Wedding of the Year.

dubsaint Dan's all day Birthday Party.

3 Newbies on the block

AND, most distracting of all, a 3:45pm local kickoff in the #1 Beach Bar in Dubai. On an average Saturday there are around 5-600 of Dubai's finest Bikini's on the Beach...

From midway through the 1st half they'll all becoming up to around the Big Screen for their sundowners........

Worried we may lose focus on the matchday thread....

But hey, if the footie is rubbish we may be able to introduce the new lucky

I'm glad it's Adkins in charge of Reading for this game. I'd worry otherwise that they would park everyone behind the ball and try not to lose, while hoping for some counter-attacking chances. I've more hope that Adkins will go for the win and will play an attacking game. If he does, we'll destroy them.

Should win comfortably, but there are no "shoulds" in football.

But the difference to other games, ex. QPR, is that they have no Samba in CB, no real pace upfront.

If we score that first goal they have to open up a bit more and that will suit us fine...

I'd take a draw now

Why? We have beaten the Champions of Europe and were described as the best team to play at Old Trafford this season! In fact we have a better record against Man United in open play than Real Madrid over two legs against 11 men!

So let's just go to Reading and kick their arses as we should and are good enough to do!

Would that be the same Adkins that every Saints fan, bar a few freaks, thank wholeheartedly for back to back promotions?

You shouldn't let popularity denote whether something has any merit or not. "Let's Get Ready to Rhumble" is No1 tonight, FFS.

Nigel will get all the credit he deserves for those promotions, probably more if prospective employers ignore the huge amount of money Southampton FC had at its disposal. He didn't achieve back to back promotions with S****horpe; got relegated the next year. If that's ignored too, he'll have an even better rep.

I admire your bravery, VFTT. You must have some confidence in NA's abilities to keep heralding his inherent ability, especially as our next game offers a superficial glimpse of whether NC made the right call in binning NA. Yeah, yeah - I know that NA has less resources at Reading that he did when at SFC, but if we can ignore external factors when considering his success, then I think I'm justified in ignoring the shortcomings he has in his squad now.

If he's half as canny as you ardent defenders make him out to be, surely he'll have a masterplan that plays on the weaknesses of his old boys? For this, and many other reasons, I await this game with interest.

Reverse psychology alert...

Typical Saints banana skin fixture...

I did actually predict this as a loss. Quite right. For all the recent progress, utterly f**k-up-able. I hope my prediction is wrong.

COUGH "points out past games when being over confident about a result and the outcome has come back to haunt us COUGH

ha no in all it wil be very scrappy if reading cant beat us then count on them to be dirty, VERY dirty. we will no doubt see one of our players being taken off injured, just dont know on who.

but nevertheless I know we can get a good win 3-0 saints!

This will be a good chance for MP to get his first win against a team in the bottom half of the league in his 5th attempt. Luckily his record against teams from the top half is excellent ;)

Turkish said this earlier..... Tino's record against the top 7/8 teams is good but if you swap the wins against Man C, Liverpool and Chelsea for wins against QPR, Newcastle and Wigan we would be in a better position overall

Hope there is a big 'ONE NIGEL ADKINS' just before the players come out, then our fans fully get behind the team and Poche as we're a better side under him.

He deserves a thankyou though.

Agreed, a big thank you just before the match.

And a jolly good rogering thereafter.

Can't believe I am totally missing this game due to Nott'm Panthers Ice Hockey team in the play-off finals. Bloody wish they were 2nd match of semi-finals :(

Massive game and I think we will win 3-1 or more, their defence is bad.

One Nigel Adkins for pre build up, but then, massacre them and their plastic fans.

Really can't see us winning this one.

It has got 'Typical Saints Banana Skin' written all over it for me.

1. It's on Sky (we've not won on Sky yet in the Prem this season)

2. We're on a good run at the moment which means a QPR/Sunderland/Wigan-esque performance is inevitable at some point

3. We don't exactly have an amazing record against Reading, especially at their place over the years.

4. They're due a win

5. I've got the same 'bad feeling' I had for this game that I had before the Wigan, Sunderland and QPR games

6. Its got a 'typical saints loss' vibe about it already, beat Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea but lose to QPR and Reading

The arrogance on this thread in extraordinary, I know everyone is ecstatic about us beating the Pool and Chelsea back-to-back (myself included) but some of you lot sound like Man United fans.

It won't be a 'massacre' it'll be an extremely tough match against a team that's fighting for their future and survival in the Premier League.

Think it'll be 2/3-0 to Reading and send us all back down to earth with a bump.

Still think we'll be joining Reading in the relegation zone before long, this upcoming game will be the start of a bad run until the end of the season I feel.
