SNSUN Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 ...and Young Player Of The Season. So, we're reaching the climax of the season, seemingly staying up and doing so comfortably. What a season, full of ups and downs, surprise wins and surprise losses, additions along the way that have made us a better team, (Shaw, Boruc) and additions along the way we, presently, remain puzzled by. (Forren) But who is YOUR player of the season overall, and who is your young player of the season? For me there are a number of stand out players, Morgan, Cork, Lambert, Puncheon, Yoshida, Shaw, Boruc, Clyne, which may make this debate more interesting as there's no ONE player that stands out, but for consistancy over the whole season I have to give it to Morgan. He gets better the higher league he plays in and judging by the stats previously posted on here, he's outplayed the rest of the Premier League for his position. For 'young player' it will be a lot easier IMO. Luke Shaw. Not only has he shown class defensively, offensively and positionally, he's only 17 AND he sorted out a problem position for us. Class, and I truly hope we can keep hold of him. JWP started the season well but sadly for him chances have been limited. I liked what I saw though, especially against United in the 3rd game. Leicestersaint Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Player of the year - difficult one - I woudl go for either Schneiderlin or Lambert (who has been immense). Shaw and Clyne have been great - and the overall turning point for Saints was when Cork came back into midfield and Shaw replaced Fox.

The Kraken Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Rickie for me. To score as many goals as he has is a brilliant achievement. And as great as Morgan/cork have been, I can't help but think of them as an efficient midfield combination rather than either of them as a stand out player of the year. Luke Shaw for young nipper of the year.

Under Weststand Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 It's difficult to leave out SRL & Cork as you can make a good argument for each. But for me Schneiderlin is player of the year he has been outstanding all season & given us the platform to express ourselves going forward & provided with Cork an excellent screen for the back four. Young player of the year only one choice Shaw.

krissyboy31 Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 It's great being in the top flight and not depending on your keeper being the best player. pangy Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Mayuka and Forren for me Only joking Morgan and Clyne. syd_barrett_saint Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Morgan and Shaw. Perhaps Morgan could even have a chance for PFA Young Player of the Year. James Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Rickie and Shaw for me. Morgan a close second but SRL has just been immense for us this season. Cork would be third, such a difference when he came back in. Most improved would be JRod (compared to how he was under NA)
SuperMikey Posted 9 April, 2013 Share Posted 9 April, 2013 Very difficult to choose between Morgan and Rickie for POTS, but my vote has to go to Morgan. Been absolutely outstanding this season. Young player has to be Shaw as well, even if he doesn't improve he'll still be a solid LB for any Premier League team. Can't wait to see how he grows. John Cool Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Before a ball was kicked this season, Ramirez might have been a good bet given his abundant skills and high price tag but he has yet to really come good. Maybe next season or maybe he'd be better plying his talents in Spain or Italy rather than the EPL. Rodriguez on the other hand has shone like a star recently and has struck up an excellent partnership with Rickie Lambert, who is my POTS pick. Young player has to be Shaw - amazing how good he is at such a young age.
saintbob40 Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Check the stats and then ask yourself who has made the most difference this year. It should be Cork and Shaw as there insertion in the team turned the team around.
Jack Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 So close between Lambert and Schneiderlin, but it has to go to Morgan IMO. Honourable mention for Jack Cork. Shaw at LB has been a revelation seeing as a lot of people deemed him too young and inexperienced to even be given the a start in the PL. Clyne has been decent but plenty of room for improvement, I'm sure he will.

derry Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Lambert by a country mile for me. 14 vital goals along with the way he makes everything tick. It was one of Adkins big errors in my view, either not starting him or taking him off after an hour, that was a nonsense. He has the best football brain in the team, brilliant technique and more than compensates for his lack of pace. Shaw is a standout at 17 for the young player. NickG Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 POTS 1.Schneiderlin 2. Lambert 3. Cork YPOTS 1. Clyne 2. Shaw 3. Ward-Prowse Reckon Schneiderlin could be included in young player? Think he is 23, Clyne's 22? Either way think he had been our player of the season. 1 Schneiderlin 2 Lambert 3 Cork Good impacts but not over as much of season; Rodriguez, Shaw, Clyne, Boruc, Lallana, Puncheon (prob well up in people's ratings until recently) Yoshida
pingwing Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Schneiderlin and Clyne for me, but with Lambert and Shaw in stupidly close second for both awards. Schneiderlin has just turned it on this season with so many excellent midfield performances (facilitated by Cork) plus a good few goals and a real passion for playing. Lambert has arguably been more influential going forward but over the season as a whole for me it is Schneiderlin. Young player of the season is Clyne for having about 4 or 5 real MOTM type performances at RB, his tackling is close the bench mark a premier league player should strive for and generally he has had an excellent season massively improving on his earlier deficiencies in positioning and dealing with high balls. Shaw has also come on leaps and bounds since that pretty poor performance against Stevenage but he is still 17 and it shows through a bit and I feel Clynes season has overall been better. UpweySaint Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Ok can anybody think of a young player in the league who has had a better season then Morgan? Any genuine competition for the grand young player award? I can only muster Walker and Wilshere though as past winners though neither have had great seasons ... Any of the Villa lot? If Sterling wins somebody needs to be shot!

UpweySaint Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Morgan probably doesn't count as 'young'. The quota is "under 23" and I should have included Benteke and Bale. I'd fancy Bale for the top gong and honestly think Morgan SHOULD get the young player award, unlikely though it may be!
SaintDan Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 Given Morgan's stats is there an argument for him making the Team of the Year for the EPL? I know it's likely to go down the Fellani/Cleverly/Carzola route but Morgan and Cork are now being compared on some websites to Xavi and Busquets for their stats. We are all used to having players in the team of the year for the past few seasons after all!
The Kraken Posted 10 April, 2013 Share Posted 10 April, 2013 If Benteke is up for young player he'll get it I reckon; heard the other day he's got 18 goals this season which is a really decent haul for a sh*t team. Really good player, Villa fans I've heard on the radio seem to love him.
