Lawro's West Ham prediction - Saints win

'I have tipped Southampton to lose a few of their games recently, not because I have anything against them, but because I thought they would struggle under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

They haven't. They have done a lot better than I expected and, by beating teams like Manchester City and Liverpool, they have surprised me a lot, and probably quite a few other people too. It is those wins that have seen them climb the table and away from relegation danger.

I'm tipping them to beat West Ham, not to silence the Saints fans who have given me stick on Twitter, but because I think they are playing well enough to break down a Hammers team that will probably see a point as a decent return as they edge towards safety.

Lawro's prediction: 2-1'

Which probably means that we will lose.

Silly people making us all look bad.

This does mean we will lose now, all signs point to it:

- Lawrenson predicts a win.

- we're at home.

- we're in form.

- we've been slagging West Ham off.

- we've won 3 in a row.

Eric is trying to find a way to get past Security at our home pub to watch on TV for the first time since QPR by swimming in after we gave Secuirty his photo and said BANNED.

All looking VERY bad, better put the mortgage on a Wet Sham win.

Oh wait, I had to give the house to the ex so don't have a mortgage.

Oh wait, we can't gamble down here.

Yup TOTALLY screwed.

Amused he's taken it to heart though and felt so embarrassed!

Has he though? Just sounds like he's acknowledging the comments sent his way, and given clear reason for his prediction for us to beat West Ham. Hardly looks liek he's embarrassed, just doing his job, which coincidentally means he predicted lots of defeats for us. Big deal.

Personally I don't get all the hassle some people give Lawro. Yeah, he's not the best pundit on MOTD, but these are just one-off predictions, done to get people talking and interacting on the Beeb website. Job done.

I feel he's embarrassed because he's had to address this weeks prediction with all of the criticism, not nearly as much to do with performances really...

I doubt if we were playing Man U at Old Trafford he would've predicted a win for us. I think what he says makes perfect sense and, with respect, think people are just looking for more reasons to bash him.

To be fair though his predictions of our games did deserve questioning. We have been playing well for quite some time. Other then the QPR game we have looked very good. He says he didnt think we would do well under MP but even last week he said we would lose. After beating City he said we would lose. Then again after Chelsea and Liverpool. If winning against those three doesnt change your view then you have to be either a **** predictor or have an axe to grind.

As far as im concerned he deserves that stick because even when we were beating the big boys he didnt change his tune.

Fair comments but on a week to week basis, if you actually read what he wrote, you can see how he came to his predictions, even if you don't agree with him, which is my position.

You can, but as all of his predictions are based on a kind of ill-informed cloud of deeply flawed assumptions, along with self-confessed ignorance as he uses "Ah durn't knooow..." approximately every 2nd prediction, you can't really expect them to be accurate, and you can understand why fans of a team clearly a lot better than he thinks would get annoyed by his constant ignorance of the team's abilities.

FWIW his average score of 7.16 means he gets one score exactly correct and 4 correct results (W/D/L) a week, which also means he gets 5 completely wrong. You have to go some NOT to get the winners of Man U/Man City/Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea home games, so that's around half of the correct predictions taken care of, and he's getting 5/8 of the rest utterly wrong...

You're wrong. He uses "Ah durn't nurr, Gareh..." He's using it a lot. "At the murment..." ;)

Predicting football results has always been a mug's game! Thats why Vernon's,Littlewoods, Zetters and the rest made fortunes before the Lottery pocketted the punters money. The only occasion when I predicted a Saints win on this website 3-1 indeed, we lost so since then I have remained silent on predictions. Am always happy for "experts" in the media to reckon that we will lose though as when we shatter their illusions the win tastes all the better.

He is probably hoping predicting us to win will have the reverse effect! With a virus rife in key members of the squad he might well get his wish!
