Bournemouth set to beat our record signing:

@MirrorAnderson: It is understood Liverpool have accepted a £15m bid from Bournemouth for Jordon Ibe and have given him permission to speak to the Cherries.

Ibe is a good player but that is a big fee. Would be interesting to see if he wants to go there and if in 5 years he or Redmond is the better player.

Spurs £11m for Wanyama looks better by the day for a proven yet young PL player.

11m for Wanyama is likely to be the best bit of business done by any club this summer. Unfortunately our hands were tied with that one though.

15m for Ibe seems like a lot but considering the crazy money around now, I reckon they've only slightly overpaid by about 3-4 mil if they do end up signing him (young, English, PL experience although limited, etc). He could turn into a great player but he certainly isn't there yet.

This is mental no matter how you slice it.

To think they let him go four years ago, and now are going to pay that much to get him back.

Its disgusting, utterly obscene. I genuinely mean that - no one person deserves to be paid that much money, especially for playing f**king football.

I'm no socialist or anti-capitalist, but it really does repulse me.

Agreed. Especially over the last 5 years things have become absolutely mental with transfer fee's and wages.

So Juve are going to make £100M profit and Pogba will treble his wages - utter, utter madness

I look at it another way....

£300k x 52 weeks = £15.6m

Old Trafford = 75k for 19 PL games = 1.425m tickets

£15.6 / 1.425 = £10.95

I realise that that is simplistic, and wages far outstrip match day income, but it is a measure of things that I like to use. Add Rooney to that and that's means the two wages is the equivalent of £20 a ticket on every PL game.

Obscene amounts of money being thrown around by everyone this year. :(

Thats the PL for you. You either get involved or (in the majority of cases) slip down the league.

In addition to the whopping TV moneybwe have already brought in over £40m and could get more. If Saints wanted to they could easily afford to spend £80m this summer. Surely?

That would buy you half of one Pogba including his wages.

I'd say it's more likely that you try and get involved, fail, and then slip down the leagues.

Obviously those teams are operating in a different league.

But if Saints wanted to buy a player this summer for double our transfer record then we easily could.

We are allegedly paying Forster 80k a week.

Are teams going to be bothered to blood any academy players when they can go and spunk £20m+ on a foreigner without batting an eye lid?

I really would bring in a 15% surcharge on all overseas players (and maybe their wages as well!!!) to fund grass roots football in this country. Buying hundreds of millions of pounds worth of overseas players helps overseas clubs but does nothing what so ever to clubs below us.

The way the £ has gone done following Brexit that looks like a done deal. Like the NHS though, we won't see any money for the grass roots...

Have to say I am a little envious, would have been happy to see us in for Ibe and Cook (6mil for young, english talent is a relative snip!) but wont throw the toys out of the pram until we start making our own moves and will try and remember the Stoke/Palace/Villa talk from this time last year.

Diafra Sakho has handed in a transfer request to West Ham, according to Sky sources.

Sunderland had an £11m bid for the striker rejected early last month and West Ham have publicly admitted to be trying to sign a big name striker this summer.

That's why Sky and BT chuck shedloads of money at the PL.

Sky especially are not interested in the development of young players.

Sky is all about creating an attractive product to sell and they are not interested in the long-term development of young English players and its effect on the national team, especially when Fifa and Uefa exclude them from major championship finals. They have summers like this when terrestrial TV hogs the footballing limelight.

The very reason they hand over big money for rights is so clubs can spunk £20m on a player, it makes the PL more glamourous, although not necessarily the best.

BT's motivations are different, they are looking to corner the broadband market, and can afford to chuck money at football coverage as something of a loss leader.

A mate in the broadcast industry told me that Sky are bracing themselves for BT blowing them out of the water and nicking all the PL rights at the next round of bidding. Sky have already lost the CL and EL to BT (lots of acronyms there) and they have been buying up the rights to the MLS and other bits of football and other sports which they wouldn't have touched with a barge pole years ago (Kabadi, anybody?) in anticipation of having their BT foundation stone knocked out from underneath them.

Good time to be a PL club. Even better to be an agent.

West Ham want to spend big on a forward almost as a sign of look how big we are now we have a big staduim kinda thing.

Problem is they are just bidding for anyone now it seems until one will accept the crazy offer.

Jordan Ibe as well, Bournemouth are building a very good young English squad. Eddie Howe is a smart and impressive English manager.

Signing the young English players is win-win. It means the players should get 1st team football & if they succeed, they will probably double in value.

Yeah, Bournemouth signing well, was surprised they let Ritchie go but Ibe is worth the gamble and Lewis Cook for £6m is bordering on obscene value. Mind you, Leeds signed Roofe from Oxford yesterday for £3m which is a lot for them so that was a sign Cook would be sold. Have a feeling they'll spend big on a centre half as well.

Impressed with Boro's business as well, shrewd and quality signings on paper without taking needless levels of risk. Can see them doing OK next year. Spurs got a good deal on Victor after taking a bath of a couple of last year's costly signings.

Saints did well with Redmond for that price but keen that Puel assesses the squad and pushes on.

As for West Ham, they seem obsessed with having a marquee signing for their new council house but Bacca at £30m and 30 years old...really?

Who knows what West Ham are doing? With the new stadium, they, even more than us, are going to be linked to every player in Europe. Maybe it's all BS and they have a clear plan and targets.

We really could spend a lot if we chose to. We already have 34 from Mane and 11 from Wanyama and 4 from Juanmi. So that's 49 million. We have the additional 100 million from the TV money so a total of 150 million before we even dig into our pockets from previous years. Of course I'm not advocating we spend that money - particularly not on "stellar" signings.

We have seen from Wales and Leicester that building a team is the key. Plus just because a player is less expensive that means nothing if you know what you are doing.

Look at Kante, Mahrez and Payet. Could have bought all three for about 15 million.

Tottenham are close to agreeing a fee with AZ Alkmaar to sign Vincent Janssen, Sky sources understand.

The 22-year-old striker is expected to train on his own at Alkmaar's training base on Friday morning as the club's finalise negotiations.

There has since been a stalemate over the transfer fee, with Alkmaar rejecting an offer close to £15m last week. But sources understand both clubs are now confident the deal will go ahead

Real Madrid aren't in for Pogba anymore, it looks like he's going to united.

MADRID OUT OF POGBA RACE'

Manchester United’s path to sign Paul Pogba is now clear after Real Madrid ended their interest in the midfielder for financial reasons, Sky Sports News HQ has been told.

According to sources close to the deal, United’s superior financial strength has given them a huge advantage in negotiations with Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, and forced Real to admit defeat in their pursuit of the player

At this point in negotiations, the basic transfer fee for Pogba is understood to start at around £85m (€100m).

However, when taking into account add-ons and bonuses related to the success of the player and the club – as well as Raiola’s fee – the total amount United pay for Pogba’s transfer could reach over £105m (€123m).

This is not including the player’s contract, which is expected to comfortably exceed £65m, were the club to pay him a basic salary of £250,000 per week on a five-year contract.
