One thing is for sure, France have been such reliable neighbours in the recent past.......

Surprised you haven't gone back far enough to include October 21st 1805 or June 18th 1815 ?

Well, we knew the Brexiteers were mad, Owen Paterson confirming it, although the Randox saga showed he was bad as well. May was a buffoon for that speech in 2017 red lining Single Market membership before the negotiations got going properly. Even Cummings and Banks thought it was stupid and extreme.

If it weren’t for Brexit there would be no need for more passport points at Dover so yes, it’s Brexit’s fault.

Bollox. There has always been a border between the two countries because the UK has never been in the Schengen Area.

He said no need for more, not none. We need more because the process is more involved and therefore slower now. He is correct and you are wrong - as always

Of course, the UK could solve the border "problem" with the French, by joining the Schengen area. It works for Norway and Iceland. Interestingly Ireland opted out of the Schengen area, preferring to being part of the open-border Common Travel Area with the United Kingdom.

Are you feeling OK ?

I only ask because at face value this is a strangely sensible post for you. However, there are additional circumstances pertaining to Iceland and Norway becoming signatories to Schengen, namely their wish, along with EU members Sweden and Finland, to continue their mutual open borders under the Nordic Passport Union, which would otherwise be compromised by the Protocols of Schengen.

There is absolutely no denying Brexit has been a costly farce.

Don’t not engage with Brexiters fantasies. If you present them with facts they present you with emotions about sovrinty, taking back control.

You Won, this is the consequence. We are outside the club. This is the new normal. I just hope the benefits you believe will come to fruition will balance The clusterfxxx it currently is.

👏 lets see the simpletons dismiss this account as well from someone who knows travel inside out.

My instinct  is they’ll  simply ignore it and go quiet or go all distraction about the french.

You cannot debate fanatics and fantasists.

How many of thoise complaining voted to leave the EU ? It seems that people are surprised that other countries also like to express their sovereignty.

IIRC quite a surprising proportion of ex-pats living in places like Spain voted to leave for some baffling reason.

Yep it was bizarre. Seems like they really did buy into the Unicorn carp that if we left we'd keep all benefits but have none of the obligations

Are there figures for this? Seems like it would be hard to ascertain. Certainly there were some as they made the news by clearly not understanding what vote leave actually meant to them.

By comparison, Gibraltar came in at 96% remain in the referendum.

Haven't seen anything definitive. This comes closest  https://www.sussex.ac.uk/broadcast/read/52513

My guess would be that while most expats voted remain in places like France, Germany and Italy there were pockets in places like Benidorm who were Brexity

Interesting article in the FT quoting the CBI on rebuilding supply chain links with the EU as anti China language ramps up in Tory leadership contest and security concerns. Anyone with a brain would rejoin Single Market but everyone in the main two parties is too afraid to upset a few bigots in Stoke https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-62356181

Weird isn't it.  The country is a fucking shithole after Brexit.  The leadership is shit.  Taxes are through the roof.  Bananas are all bent again. Petrol costs a fortune and good luck heating your house this winter.

But, unbelievably, people still want to come here, despite travelling through most of Europe first - maybe BorrierSaint should send his twitter links to Sangatte?

Almost 700 migrants crossed the English Channel in 14 small boats on Monday, a record for the year so far.

The Ministry of Defence said 696 migrants made the crossing, topping the previous daily record of 651 in April.

On a side note, Soggy will be wanking into his sock.  He loves it when a migrant crossing record gets broken.

Consider where they have come from - the UK is the Land of Milk and Honey by comparison.  Maybe even a free ticket to Rwanda looks enticing.

( They should stil be applying for asylum in the first "safe" country they reach ).

And yet they've ignored Spain, France, Italy, possibly Austria and Germany on their travels.  Doesn't say much about their milk and honey.

How much milk and honey would they see packed inside shipping containers as they cross the continent ?

UK is still a rich country being richer on a per capita basis than almost every country in Europe. We are however getting poorer in real terms which is annoying as sin.

So we don't have to do anything special to stop the immigrants, just wait until we are less rich than the French.

Apparently on a per capita basis Uk ranks 18th in Europe with our friends across the Irish Sea ranking 4th!!

And on a per capita purchasing power basis (PPP) basis. We are behind all of our Northern European peer group (Germany, France,  Austria, Norway etc) and only one place above Malta.

Fun fact. In the 13 years (1997-2010) Labour were in power, real median incomes rose 30%. In the 12 years the Tories have been in control they havent changed, been totally flat.

Irish per capita gdp is somewhat inflated by their low population and their tax breaks to invite huge companies.

Thats true - but average hourly wages show a similar pattern. In Ireland the 2021 average was 27.33 euros ph (c£22 ph at current rates). In the UK it was £13.57

They achieved 25% gdp growth in a year once and all that happened was Apple restructured slightly 😂 It’s mental and when the new EU tax rules come in I imagine their gdp will normalise somewhat.

Malta also financially dopes with their tax regime of course though (5% effective tax to foreign owned companies).

I am surprised however that the minimum wage in Ireland is higher but even considering that Wikipedia (yes I know but I’m lazy) has us as the fourth highest in Europe so not so bad on that front.

No they don’t it says nothing of the sort in the refugee treaties we signed up to.  Otherwise no major country in Europe would receive more than a handful of refugee’s and counties that boarder unstable areas would be crushed under the weight.

Yet another lie spread by our crappy media.

There have been loads of Brexit dividends if woke, sandal-wearing pinkos are prepared to take off their snowflake blinkers!

Rees-Mogg has just explained how the safety signs in the Dartford Tunnel could soon be in yards instead of metres.

So there, for just a few grand on new signage we have taken back control of our tunnel safety advice!

When I read this post I initially thought that it was a joke - I checked, and it isn't. JRM mentioned signs with "funny numbers", meaning Arabic numerals denoting distances in metres. I wonder how many Brexiteers were undecided as to how to vote until they saw those signs. If Truss is looking to save money from the Public purse, abolishing the post of Brexit Benefits Minister should be top of her list.

They could have been in yards even without Brexit. Six years and this was all he could think of?

Should have changed to furlongs then the whole country could be confused as opposed to just anyone under 50.

I don’t know why they’re bothering with Rwanda when the solution is staring them right in the face. I’d set up holding centres & use hotels in areas that voted Remain.

Aren’t a lot of those place that vote, sorry used to vote, Tory?
