Bit harsh I think. I didn't ever see him as a first team player, more of a young kid punt. What was he, £3-4m ish? Peanuts at this level, so it wouldn't have been a case of him and no one else.

Still too early to say either as he's not really played for us, still got a lot of development to do. I'd say he was seen as a development signing rather than a first team one.

Very harsh. I think aside from his height he looked pretty decent in his few appearances but is clearly one more for the future. We needed full back cover in the summer so I don't think it was a strange signing at all. If he wasn't injured I think he'd be getting decent game time now as Jones clearly doesn't rate Perraud.

Vegard Forren, Alledine Yahia, Federico Arias, Anthony Pulis, Marcelo Sarmiento, Kleber Chala, Tommy Forecast.........

No, Larios isn't the worst.

in context that we needed to sign players good enough to improve our starting 11.

Lavia aside, we have not realy done that...ABK at a push

I think Rasmus et al. might have been blinded by his youth career pedigree and Shields' assessment rather than scouting due diligence.  At £6m plus a 20% sell on clause he wasn't cheap for Saints as an 18 year old without a single first team appearance.  At 19, it's doubtful that he will grow physically, and he's a small fullback in the Prem in 2023.  Think of Luke Shaw, exceptional I know, but six foot plus and playing first team football at 16, full England debut at Larios's age replacing Ashley Cole.  The kid needs games and deserves time, as all young players do, hope he turns out to be our next competent diminutive full-back, a KWP or Cedric - but clearly not what we needed at the end of August 2022.  Another peach from Ankersen's mindwank.

Ali Dia?

Has he re-signed, or failing that his 18 year old son who works at Kwik Fit?

To be fair to Ali, he was dead keen and ran around a lot, so probably high xG and a nailed on starter in a NJ side.

At least he had some "balls", conning his way into a top tier team!🤣

I'm not sure that a 4ft left back was what we needed on the last deadline to help us in the fight for relegation - but he used to be in the Man City youth team so he must be good (presumably that trumps anything else in our scouting department).

£6m apparently. Not a lot of money on the grand scheme of things but a lot when you already have a left back and two YHGTIers in that position plus £6m less to go towards the elusive striker everyone except Rasmus knows we need. Maybe he’ll be the new Roberto Carlos.

It’s alright buying ones for the future but there is also the small issue of now that needs to be dealt with as well

i never said that we didn't need to buy players now BUT this post was specificially about Larios!  It is so obvious that Larios was bought for the future.  Yet the usual warriors on here writing him off already.  Saintsweb at it's finest!

Imants Bleidelis!

I thought of him, but then gave him the benefit of the doubt as if he were signed to help Pahars settle and turn into the striker he did for a couple of seasons then he wasn't entirely pointless. Although he was from his time on the pitch.

Chala on the other hand. He couldn't even be relied upon to tell the squad or WGS it was Delgado's birthday.

Just to add, so it isn't all about imports, Lee Todd was pretty pointless.

Could add Dixon and Speedie, as well, but they did have some reputation before they joined us to go on.

Has he ever played for our development B team?

At the time, I thought Antti Niemi was a pointless signing as Paul Jones was a solid enough keeper for us. Especially as the £2m could've been put to use elsewhere in the team at the time.

Wind forward a few months and I decided maybe it wasn't best for me to concern myself with who'd make a good signing and who wouldn't...

as an overall side we are small and physically very weak,we get bullied week in week out, against newcastle it will be like playing in land of the giants

We were covered at LB. KWP is at his best there even tho hes right footed, and we've able cover in Perraud. Its clear Larios was brought in for the future, he was just thrust into games at the start of the season due to an unfortunate series of injuries. He didnt disgrace himself either.

We'll see how pointless it was when we need him next season in the championship

I think the point being isn’t writing Larios off but when we’re haggling over a few million for a postion we need a player and we’ve spunked £6m odd in a position that we didn’t need a player it’s more than a little bit stupid

Yahia!!! There's a name. Actually ended up having a decent career in France. I'm sure I remember him playing for Tunisia on TV around 2012 and my mind being blown.

Well he gave Jones three games as well. Modern fans 🙄

Larios has looked okay in his few chances. Certainly far worse out there. Considering this was very obviously a future investment, you're being very harsh. Height against him, but looks strong, he's quick and looks like he has a head for the game on him.

Apologies if these queries have already been asked but....

- have the club ever declared what injuries this fella has had / has? If not, why not?

- is it the same injury that keeps recurring and/or never heals, or is it a catalogue of back to back different injuries?

- has the doctor who carried out his medical been struck off yet?

He was kept on to run the rule over Ross Stewart.

Nope, but hopefully it's a necessary growth spurt.

On the subject of the thread, he was a pointless signing.

Absolutely. Sums up the focus on recruitment at the time.

Ridiculous

We need to find him a decent loan move somewhere. Playing under 21's isn't going to be much of a benefit to him.

We'll loan him out until his contract winds down.

That will be that

That's not the view from within the club. There are high expectations for Larios, which was why he was so involved with the celebrations at Wembley despite no game time

He’s been here two years and been injured pretty much since the day he arrived. I hope these expectations aren’t misplaced

He played a number of

times when he first arrived, whilst we were in the Premier League, and looked very promising. I, for one, thought he looked like he had quality, good ball controL and looking to play forward when possible.

I expect him to be reintegrated through pre-season and wouldn’t be surprised if he is challenging for a starting spot during the coming season.

Some forum members seem to write off players after 5 minutes. Injuries do not always mean the player is a shadow of their pre-injury self. Kevin De Byrne had a reasonable spell out injured when he was in his late teens, what happened to him?!?!?

The argument is that he needs to play, being a squad player in and around the bench here is not going to help him.

We need to get a loan for him next year, for his sake more than anything. No one has any idea if this guy will ever be able to cope with men's football over a period of time. We don't have the luxury of testing that, so maybe a loan to a lesser league where the demands are less...is beneficial for all. I'd be disappointed for him if he's still here in September, behind both Taylor and Manning.

Maybe a 6 month loan to a championship team would be beneficial. Preseason will tell us a lot as to whether he has recovered and how he is with the pace/ match sharpness
