Would be the death knell for his career. In his position on the RW they have Saka, Nwaneri, and they're about to sign Madueke. In the 10, they have Odegaard, Havertz, Nwaneri might end up there eventually, and have already committed to wunderkind Max Dowman (15) being in the first team squad next season.

Doesn't ring true to me.

Good analysis as it turns out.. There was a conversation between Arsenal and Dibling's agent a few days ago, but the signing of Madueke has killed it. I was surprised when the interest came up, because the effort to sign Madueke was quite advanced, but there you go - all's well that ends well. Dibling isn't going to be seen folding bibs at London Colney.

Southampton Incoming Transfer Rumours so far this summer

I have taken a bit of time to gather details about players who rumours have suggested have been linked to Southampton. I have excluded rumours that seem to be only coming from Saints Marching rather than any more credible source - though not suggesting any of these sources are necessarily credible!

Southampton FC seal signing of young Sheffield Wednesday midfielder | Daily Echo https://share.google/qrFKRapLwR2Ez9XY7

Very highly rated young MF joining the U21s. Wednesday fan I know was gutted to see him leave - thought he was gonna be a big player for them. Let's just hope this one doesn't go the same way as Thierry Small did.

Don’t mind seeing that at all but first XI needs to be the focus now, we’ve got lots ‘for the future’.

Predictions from anyone? I reckon Ramsdale, THB, Dibling and Fernandes will all leave. I think that's when the really serious work of this window will happen because we need top dollar replacements. The biggest hole will be in our attacking positions where we will need a couple of excellent probably lower premier league players. It's a shame we weren't in for Demarai Gray who I think is a great signing.

It does not need to be one or the other. It should be both. There is no 'loss of focus' as it is a separate recruitment team for the academy teams. New appointment Mariela Nisotaki helping to lead the academy recruitment team.

It was these qualities that are what attracted Mariela [Nisotaki] and her team

The financial impact of signing players for the academy teams won't have any notable impact on the club's ability to sign 1st team players. Plus all it takes is for a few to work out well and it pays for itself.

I think you are probably right, hard to know what offers we'll receive,  we all expected KWP to leave last time and no big offers ever came in.

I think Ramsdale and Fernandes most likely to go, but possibly later in the window as we hold out for best price.

Would be good to see us get some quality loans,  makes such a big difference in this league.

The only one out of those 4 that I think might stay is Dibling.

Personally, I think it would be good for his career to have a season in the Championship l, but money talks.

Good point - I meant to check things like that before posting it and had a feeling a couple had already gone. I know quite a few were players that were of interest to other clubs as well as Saints.

So how much does it take for us to sell the main 4 players?

We are in a aellers market eith these players so I'd expect very decent fees.

Fernandes....long contract remaining, potential is huge. At least 40-45m.

Dibling....shorter contract but potential higher probably than Fernandes. Younger too. I'd say similar 40-45m, but would hope we can get 50m+ plus good sell-on percentage.

Ramsdale....long contract remaining, got to be 30-35m+ hopefully nearer 40m.

THB....lost a but of his shine last season so not sure too many will be after him but maybe one of the promoted clubs. Possibly Palace if they lose Guihi. I'd say 30-35m+ could force our hand.

That would put in tbe pot somewhere between 140-160m possibly, plus what we've already made from KS and PO.

A significant sum that should mean two or three good ones fro this season but also mean we have more availalble if we go up immediately.

I'd hope one or two would stay but selling all four this summer may well be the best strategy for the long term.

Fair point MLG, I wasn’t necessarily thinking of the budget aspect, more try getting more of the spine together during pre-season.

Mind you, the best loans like 2023 probably won’t be until near end of the window.

I know the market has changed, but right now, today, I think those figures might be a tad on the high side. I have no doubt the clib will be requesting those sums, but I wonder if the clubs offering monies will feel the same. Perhaps Fernandes £35m plus add ons, Dibling £38 plus add ons, Ramsdale may or may not have a relegation clause, but not sure we are getting more than £25m, THB is tricky as he hasn't impressed me as much as others, but I'm guessing clubs will offer £25 plus add ons.

I have taken a bit of time to gather details about players who rumours have suggested have been linked to Southampton. Very good - thanks. Trouble is the two signings we have made are not on there and not one of those listed have been seen anywhere near Staplewood! Serves to demonstrate  the value in the media rumour mill and highlights the massive value of the CoT - isn’t that right @Turkish? 😉

I guess our biggest potential problem is going to arise if any of those transfers are completed near the end of the window giving us little or no time to bring in replacements.

I'd hazard a guess that all your valuations are very much on the high side compared to the reality of what we are likely to receive.

I think its quite unlikely all will leave, but in reality i think its up in the air as to whether any of them go individually. I think there is a reasonable chance we can keep any one of them as individuals if the club really commits to it.

Ramsdale will want the right move (by all accounts seems keen to stay other than he wants england football) - not all moves will give him that chance of an England call up, and we seem to be intent on offering him a very good wage.

THB - A long contract time remaining, key player for us last time out in the champ, one for the future re development, and not clear he's going to have suitors above other relegation scrap sides.

Fernandes - class player, but has featured heavily in PR material and gave that interview where he made all the right noises about staying. Long contract time remaining.

Tyler - i think he's the most likely to leave tbh, his contract situation means the club are in a weak spot - if he doesn't sign a new one then all it needs is a couple of clubs to start making offers at the right kind of level and we'll basically be forced to accept the best one. Its also pure "profit" from a PSR perspective (big clubs got to make sure the rest of us are incentivised to sell off our best prospects).

There is another dynamic to it - in that if we start selling our best players. the rest of them will get jealous over moves, feel like they're being left behind, worry about a lack of serious ambition etc., and ultimately want out. Whereas staying firm on key player sales will galvanise a lot of the dressing room and demonstrate commitment and ambition from the club. Can we afford it though?

Perhaps a more realistic scenario is that we lose 2 (Ramsdale loan/sale, Dibling sale etc).

Lol. Your fees are mental for the most part. Fernandes we may get 40 million for. Dibling will be 30-40 probably closer to 30 with maybe some addons. Ramsdale has a reported 20 million release clause and will likely go for something around that. THB failed in the prem and we will be lucky to get what we paid for him. I'd hope for 25 million. We would likely get just over 100 million for the lot.

Posted

Was thinking about what would happen if Fernandes goes and who we could replace him with.  I've no idea  but we'd need to get some decent quality in even if we're planning on getting another additional creative midfielder as competition/cover.

If we look at the prem then it would probably be a loan and either kids desperate for game time or someone in a similar position to Rothwell (not actually Rothwell but you know what I mean).  Is there anyone that fits that bill?

Looking at the champ then I guess Rudoni and Hamer stand out but would have thought they'd be more keen to get prem moves and their clubs definitely wouldn't want to sell to us.  Not sure either are realistic and any moves would probably be late on.

Then there's the foreign leagues and probably more likely.  Big test of Spors so it's going to be crucial he gets this right.  Same goes for Dibling if he leaves and we're already light on the flanks anyway.

Anyone if Jamie Donley from spurs is any good .. central attacking midfielder punched in some decent numbers on loan in league 1 orient..

Is he ready to take a further step up

Like most of us, I'd love our top players to stay but I'm pessimistic about it. The reason it's taking a while is that they won't want to join another struggling team (not could they afford them!), but the teams in the middle of the Prem / upper end of European leagues who are realistic targets both ways are still being raided by the big guns, so the offers won't come in till that's all settled down.

Posted

I maybe optimistic but I can't see any of them going apart from Ramsdale.  Fernández is on a contract till 2029 and seems happy here.  Unless we got a crazy bid (£50m plus) like Lavia then he'll stay.  Dibling seems happy according to Still and seemed homesick when he left for Chelsea and came back.  THB could go to West Ham though not sure anyone is paying around £20m for him after last season.

https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-rebuff-offers-two-young-31934876

" Jamie Donley, who took League One by storm with Leyton Orient last season with 19 goal involvements in 48 matches as well as a remarkable strike from the halfway line that forced a Stefan Ortega own goal in the FA Cup tie against Manchester City and had Pep Guardiola praising the versatile 20-year-old. football.london understands that Spurs are currently rebuffing loan advances for Donley, who has four years left on his contract and can play in midfield or attack, and will reassess his situation later in the summer after Frank has worked with him on the training pitches in pre-season."

Posted (edited)

The likes of Donley is exactly the sort of loan signing we should be targetting though, IMO. i.e. A highly rated player on the cusp of breaking through into a top* premier league club's 1st team.

(*MLG note: yes, I know that Spurs weren't a "top" premier league team last season, but they can be considered a top PL team over a sustained period of time)

Couple more links to Lennon Miller of Motherwell this morning.

Can't say I've ever seen him myself but I know a Rangers fan who seems to think he's the next big player from Scotland.

Who was the last?! Tierney, McTominay or Robertson I guess, but then fairly slim pickings!

Gibbs-White to Spurs would be their best signing in years.  Fantastic footballer.  I don’t think Forest will replace him with Fernandes though.

This is the problem all clubs have, Forest are a great club whove had a great season, European football next year but their best players being picked off my the team that finished 17th. It really is such an uneven playing field now.

it looks like Ramsdale will be at the end of domino chain for premier league goalkeeper transfers this summer - he could end up at any of Sunderland, Leeds, B'mth or West Ham but he doesn't seem to be first choice for any of them.   Maybe its because he wages are too high - or he's just not as good as people think.  Or maybe its because he's seen as bad luck charm when it comes to relegation!

As much as some people seem to want to keep him I am not really sure we can afford to given his wages. I always thought we overspent on him last summer with his transfer fee and wages when we could have signed a player like Johannsson for an awful lot less and spent the money elsewhere like CB and or CDM.

I think THB is in a similar position - he's on the list for a few premier league clubs but not at the top. I can see him ending up at West Ham, Burnley or Palace.

We need to shift some players out and reduce the wage bill if we are going to bring any more players in besides the rumoured attacking midfielder.  I was hoping Aribo, ABK and Bednarek would have left by now for a start.

What we really needed to do was shift Stephens, Bednarek, ABK and THB and bring is a mid to late 20's CB who is experienced and can lead the back line and play alongside Edwards and Wood.  Quarshie adds depth and potential but did we really need another young defender with potential when we already have THB, Edwards, Wood and Kayi Sanda.

Those on a long contract will have to kick up a fuss if they want to leave and we haven't received an offer that forces our hand. I'm hoping we can keep Fernandes. I don't think anyone's stupid enough to pay what we'd expect for THB. Ramsdale has reportedly said he wants to leave, and we've been linked with a few goalies.

The big clubs have been cherry picking the best players for I don't know how long. They have everything sewn up.

Bit of shame Forrest don't get one more season where they add to what they have and see if they can really break into the big time. The window of opportunity seems to be almost non existent for "smaller' clubs. Maybe they can emulate us and sign some new talent that sees them do even better - far from easy though. The good news for them is that they tied down their entire back four to decent contracts. Aina was bloody brilliant last year, but I guess at 28 he's a year or so too old for the biggest clubs to want to invest £50m in him?

It's what PSR has done sadly. It's just hindering the lesser teams, it's created the most uneven playing field I've ever seen, when supposedly it was supposed to make it fairer - but I think they all knew what they were doing when PSR came in tbh. The smaller clubs have to hire accountants to work out what % of this % they can spend, but the bigger teams just get stronger as it's all based on commercial revenue and income. (or they can sell off parts of their organisation to themselves to make money - I mean wtf?)

I don't really know what the way out from this is, but for promoted sites they simply have no chance. You can spend upwards of £200m and probably still go down on 20 odd points. The PL is broken and PSR has done it.

I thought the reporting re Ramsdale was that he wanted to stay but felt he needed to leave as he wants to make the WC squad? Of our “Big 4” players Ramsdale is the one I could see staying. James Trafford made the England squad in the Championship and if Rambo’s options are top end of the Championship here or playing for PL cannon fodder like Leeds or Sunderland then he might prefer to take his chances here.

Unfortunately can’t see Fernandes staying when push comes to shove, someone will come in. Likewise THB. Suspect we will lose both towards the end of the window. Dibling who knows - pre Jan last year I’d have said no chance but tailed off last season and our price tag will put a lot of clubs off.

It's always been a thing, but like you say the window of opportunity is now smaller. 6 months to a year of your best players from a good season, pretty much all you'll get from them. No chance to build a team, no chance to evolve a squad - not without stupid money or the ability to fudge the books by selling parts of the club to yourself to get over PSR hurdles.

Forest did overachieve last season, so ideally they'd have used this window to fill some gaps and add more quality to the existing - but they won't get the chance to do that, as the focus will be on just trying to stand still.

PSR, FFP and all that rubbish has ruined football as we know it basically.
