Why is he holding an old style shirt? 🤔😏

I thought we were signing someone until I read on.

It's some player we signed last year and immediately loaned to Valenciennes and now we're selling anyway.

Absolutely nothing to see here, just multiclub wheeler dealering that doesn't mean anything to anyone. Pretty much irrelevant to this thread.

As long as he doesn't become the world's best midfielder and the media start saying we're the stupidest club in the world, then I'm satisfied.

He took being crucified by the fans too literally apparently.

Yes, just when you think he’s finished, dead and buried, he reappears a few days later front and centre.

I'll await the "yes but he was in a shit team" comments which is a fair point but Fernandes was also in that shit team and put the performances in on a more consistent basis.

Did he though….?

Didn’t set the world alight at Valenciennes, but this would explain his complete lack of presence in pre season. Not sure how much we bought him for but sounds like a (very small) profit potentially.

If he is going from a loan in the French 3rd tier, to potentially signing for Real Betis... then he did do very well last season.

Thanks CBF - I remember now. Another utterly pointless bit of low key business in relation to Saints FC. If you’re a die hard SR fanboy I guess it’ll get you excited.

Eduard Spertsyan’s agent on #SaintsFC’s interest: “We have already had contact with Southampton’s representatives. The club presented its project, the vision of the head coach and sporting director, as well as the role they see for Eduard. They view him as a core player around whom the team will be built. Such a level of interest is very rare. I am confident that in the new season the team will return to the Premier League with a big lead. In the Championship, they stand out both in squad quality and in finances.”

Just seen this on Twitter. It's actually happening? Although he's now alerted every club in world football ffs.

I’m not really sure what to make of him .. he actually reminds me a little of belmadii on the YouTube clips in style not sure if that’s a good thing :) .. seems to kinda play like a traditional number 10 which is a bit of a dying breed these days .. if anything looks more like someone who would be a replacement for fernandes then a winger don’t think we really had anyone like this who has worked out that well since berkovic

Regarding Spertsyan he's played just as much as a CM as Attacking M this season - I know its just started but hey.

I see him being very effective with Charles, with Shea sitting and Eduard going forward with Matty or whatever variation you fancy.

This from a couple of years ago.

"Ivić has tried out numerous formations but has used a 4-1-4-1 in 32% of their matches and a 4-3-3 in 29% of their games. In both these set-ups, Spertsyan typically operates as a left-sided central midfielder with the license to move forward and initiate plays. In contrast, his fellow central midfielder — usually Nikita Krivtsov — assists build-up play. Aleksandr Chernikov has usually operated as the holding midfielder, dictating the tempo after receiving the ball from the defence.

Spertsyans role allows him to effectively play as a left-sided attacking midfielder, as his heatmap below indicates."

What's your view on this, Christophe?

I'm not surprised he didn't stay with you; he wasn't up to scratch during his loan spell at Valenciennes.

I still wish him all the best for his future career, but I think he'll have to work extremely hard to perform well.

Are you surprised he’s going to Real Betis, Christophe?

I'm a little surprised that he's going to Real Betis because he really wasn't impressive with us.

Now, if he's going there, it's because the recruiters think he has potential.

I’ve interested how it works negotiating with a Russian club when there are legal sanctions about.

No idea if true, but someone said as long as the club is not owned by a sanctioned entity you can still do business with them.

Harsh. He was asked a direct question and answered it. Very strange.

Maybe someone can start a thread and us Saints fans can all reminisce about the magical unforgettable moments we have seen from Daouda Traore in a Saints shirt.

Off you go

If we don't sign young players in the first place we'll never get to see them in the first team. Sure, some won't work out (like this one it appears), but some will. Not everything in player recruitment needs to be short term.

Hasn't this made a slight profit though? So arguably it has worked out and might hopefully fund the next speculative punt we farm off to one of the other clubs in the network. I'm still slightly peeved though that he one great player that does get developed as Goztepe didn't come here though.

Have a word with yourself. It’s not for you to dictate who can post where. This is also, like it or not, a transfer for a Southampton player on the thread specifically for that.

I think you should take a moment and consider if you owe Christophe an apology. He posts on here in good faith and doesn’t deserve the hostility you have shown which feels wholly uncalled for.

I just took CB's post as his usual acerbic tongue-in-cheek posting style that we've all been on the receiving end of at some point in time. That said, might get lost in translation at times :)

There is no confusion in my message, dear friends.

Daouda Traoré was recruited last year by Southampton and then loaned directly to us at Valenciennes.

When he returned from his loan to you this summer, I took the liberty of sharing this tweet indicating that the player was leaving for Real Betis.

I am surprised by your message, my friends. I have always been very polite, respectful and courteous in my posts.

Nah, whoever is saying this is basically saying the player has been wanted by clubs in Europe for a while and now has achieved what he wanted to at the club, Will Still has wanted him for years, Saints see him as a central player for us to build a team around therefore we are the right club for him to move to at the right time. Very positive.

Also confirms what those of us ITK said, it was meant to be a secret.

There was no confusion Christophe. You posted about a Saints player leaving Saints in a Saints transfer thread on a Saints forum.

CB was being, to use an English phrase, a cock.

Your posts are always polite and charming. Please don't be put off.

Pretty sure this has been suggested before but if the issue here is that a British club can't / won't handover cash to a Russian club isn't there a solution here whereby Goztepe buy Spertsyan and loan him to us for a season and then we buy him from Goztepe next season? Or is that a loophole that the authorities have already seen coming and plugged accordingly? Apologies if this has already been covered.

Surely that kind of fudge wouldn't work under a multi club ownership? Feels wrong on every level.

Totally agree. Christophe has been nothing but polite, friendly and informative whilst talking about our sister club. Pity some of the people on here can't take a leaf out of his book.

Believe it has been eatablished that Krasnodar are not owned by anyone with political links which changes the landscape.

As a comparison, Sunderland were able to sign Wilson Isidor from Zenit in January on a permanent deal, so there must be legitimate ways of doing it.

Seemingly he is keen but imagine they will be an absolute CB Fry to deal with so lets see...

So on that point, I am grateful for translation software, even though I have some basic knowledge and can speak a little English in real life, haha.

Of course, I will continue to post on this friendly forum full of very nice people :)
