People can get too emotionally attached to the players. Matty was good and showed good character (until that stunt at the end) but he IS replaceable. And when the replacements are 2 proven championship players with multitudes more goal involvements and 2 high potential players then we've absolutely made the right decision.

Come on now. Isn't emotional attachment to players part of the joy of football?

"Too" was the operative word. Of course we get attached to them but they come and go. It's about what we do next!

I wouldn't worry too much about Azaz/Fellows/Jander, we wouldn't be so advanced with those ones if we were relying on the departures of BBD/Edozie/Aribo/Smallbone. They'll still happen, we've lost Dibling and Fernandes at the end of the day.

I’m not really worried tbh but you’re right it does look like those TWO *are advanced.

It’s that in the happiness of supposedly  three very good sounding players to join us I know that’s only 50% of the issue. And many’s the fall twixt cup and lip.

If ONLY those three join we are at a Squad of 31. Remove the likely four and we are still overloaded and difficult to manage optimally- according to what Stills inferred. And we certainly want Still to be effective!

* Finns official.

Impressive interview with Finn, sounds like he's going to be given the freedom to play the way he wants and more importantly he wants to win the league not just get promoted. Good lad.

Having taken in close to 100 million on dibling and Fernandes surely we can now sign a 20 million plus striker? And not some bargain basement has been 🤔💭

Yeah… the league record is 16m, and we’re going to spend 20m+ on a striker to go alongside the other 4/5 we have on the books…..

Tricky add-ons? :D

I'd guess some or all of the £2m add ons would be if we are promoted. That counts as tricky.

Get in!! Azaz was the main one I wanted, and the one I was a little worried wouldn’t come off due to the interest in Boro’s other players.

Fucking fair play lads , that’s a decent signing for once.

Alfie Gilchrist going to West Brom for £2m. His name came up on here a few times speculatively before Roerslev signed.

That's probably a better signing than Furlong who they sold, for 3.5m.

Not sure what Ipswich saw in that one.

Saints just sold two players with a combined four goals between them last season for a total fee of £80M.

Let that sink in.

That is excellent business by the club.

If framing it that way makes you feel better, cool, but in my eyes we have sold an amazing talent and a likely Portugal world cup player.

We sold two players who didn’t want to be here.

He obviously didn't want to be here, so wasn't a whole lot the club could do, so try and get the best deal possible and move on. Only time will tell if he develops into a top top player.

I know this isn’t exactly a big deal but I’d like Aribo to be sold and for the #7 to be given to someone who's a cut above the rest, like MLT and Lambo etc.

I know a fellow

Why is BBD so utterly useless for us but was semi decent at other clubs? Probably on high wages so hopefully another to move on in the window

That's one of the problems with being a football supporter. We think we know a player because we watch him week after week. We sing his name.  Kids hero worship him.

But in fact most of them are a) pretty thick (with some exceptions) and b) greedy, and influenced by even greedier agents..... with no real loyalty to a club.

Best never to meet them!  😉

Of course. Have to say though, despite all the shit that gets talked about him, MLT is a thoroughly pleasant chap.

Honestly, just watch the press conference where Still gets asked about Cam Archer. He said he wants him to be himself and not fall back into 'things we don't want him to do.' Basically he's saying 'Martin f***ed Archer up' without saying it. There's your answer about BBD in a nutshell.

I spent some time a few years back with Lee Dixon and Les Ferdinand on a charity cycle ride. They were thoroughly nice blokes and very down to earth. Far more so than some of the rugby knobs who were arrogant and conceited.

I dunno, Valencia was a nightmare for BBD and that was before he signed for us.  I just think his confidence is so low that it's going to be very hard for him to come back and certainly not here where he'll have too much competition to even get in the squad.

I actually feel sorry for him.  There's a clip from the Norwich game where he tries something and it doesn't come off and the look on his face and his body language is pure dejection.  Lad desperately needs a fresh start and hopefully he gets it.

I understand the concern, but give it up. We have Stewart and the club have bought Downs to be that "young, big, strong and fast" centre forward. They simply aren't bringing in another because Downs has missed two chances.

I think youve missed the point. The issue is much wider than 2 missed chances by the backup striker who has been bought for his potential.

The issue is that our principal target man (Stewart) has hardly played for over 2 seasons.

We should have bought a reliable number 9 and this may come back to bite us.

To play Devil's advocate I feel like asking for a reliable number 9 is far easier said than done. Who is that individual? Last season no striker scored more than 20 championship goals and of those who got close only Piroe and Sargent are Close to being a 9.

We have quality options, history suggests Arma can get there, Archer may get close and if fit Stewart has Quality.

I just don't think there's a long list of ready made 9s who are realistic or proven at this level.

Not sure that's really the case with BBD. He can't even control a simple pass. As another poster said, probably a severe lack of confidence but I'm not sure he's ever been very technically gifted.

Ryan Mason did his pre-match press conference this morning. Doesn't seem as though the Fellows move is as far ahead as reported yesterday if he's in training with West Brom today.

He said: "I can only speak about players in the building that are mine, he is currently one of my along with the other boys.

"I think what we are speaking about at the moment are potentials. Tom is still our player, he is in the building now.

"In football and in life things can happen and can change, currently my mind isn't thinking about that.

"He's in the building, everyone in the building is available. We have some injuries as well that make players unavailable, but all other players are ready for selection.

"I think the Tom situation along with others is that nothing has been confirmed."

No, it's not easy but that's the purpose of a transfer committee.

Who knew much about Graziano Pelle before he arrived or Ricky Lambert.

Armstrong and Archer are not target men. They do better playing alongside one.

We have a Sporting Director who's selected Downs as a good candidate. Perhaps we need to give him a chance?

Spors bought Downs as potential for the future not to be relied upon now.

I reckon close to £120m receivable including add-ons.  Not bad from a team that was abject last year and only selling 2 players I was actually interested in keeping.

I’ve lost track a bit, but there were a couple of others who went for reasonable money, as you suggest, some still to go. I’m sure someone will tally it all up and post here at some points. It feels as though we are finally being run by capable and competent people  for the first time in a long time. I include Still in that, I wasn’t keen, but I’ve been really impressed by his intelligence and demeanour.
