Jelert is a left field one, but he can play left back and right back - given the injuries to Wellington and Bree (and maybe the departure of Bree), this makes sense. I never felt Bree suited a 'Still' system, and Jelert is much more similar in style to Mads.

Potentially could have Jelert at left back, mads at right back. Fellows and Leo Scinza in front of both, Azaz in the 10 and someone up top. Defo need some to go before more come in though.

It's weird to sit here after all this and still be a little bit confused about our 'striker' options. There is a lot riding on Downs for sure. But everything else looks spot on, the jump from starter to backup in the main outfield positions is closer to equal than it has been for a long time. That will stand us in good stead for a 46 game season.

I watched a few clips of Jelert, his dribbling skills reminded me very much of KWP, which can only be a good thing. The clips also showed him playing on the left quite a few times, so I took it as meaning he plays there more than as an  occasional cover.  I also read a few scouting reports, and they were very positive. At only 22 he looks very promising. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, looks a big powerful two footed fullback with plenty of skill and attacking intent. Would be made up if we get this one over the line.

Yeah hopefully we can get this deal done for Jelert.

But might prevent someone coming in if still here by Monday though

Best attribute is his pace. Good for recovery runs and overlaps. We have brought up the average height of the squad and the average speed and the average goals and assists. All in one day. Superb!

Our striker options look more baffling now with untried Downs and permanently injured Stewart.

Armstrong and Archer to a lesser point you could understand as goal contributions in this division have been good.

I don’t think we need to replace Aribo, he’s just a surplus that needs to go.

True, but I think the point being made was that we may not have the squad space to bring in someone else before Monday's deadline if we can't be certain of a deal for Aribo.

Three great signings today and I’m starting to feel excited about the season.

On potential striker incomings/outgoings, it seems to have gone a bit under the radar that Ross Stewart is in the last year of his contract. It would be particularly surprising to see anyone paying a fee for him with his recent injury record, but maybe one to keep an eye on over the next few days

Absolutely buzzing with today.

All the signings seem very sensible. Feels like we’ve got our club back after 3-4 years of nonsense. (Edit: maybe even longer actually).

Thank you spors & still

Signing Championship star quality is what we need/had to do.

We have done that, so fair fucking play.

Azaz is a superb player, just hope we use him properly as he will be a star for us

That's the feeling I get too, targeting the best for the league we're in. Doing that then allows you the wiggle room to add the likes of Casper, Downs, Quashie as your potential talents.

This reminds me when Koeman came in and new signings kept coming. With a lot of outgoings - Calum Chambers was 'ill' and went to Arsenal. Pundits spreading doom but we had the last laugh.  Exciting times again now 💪

I remember the game at Liverpool (I think).. Although we lost, it was clear we were going to be 'alright'

Was about to say how about a cheeky bid for Ethan Laird, born in Basingstoke and can play RB and LB but he was shocking for Leicesters goal there

Nathan Jones after a wing back at Charlton.

Not rocket science to guess where Bree could end up.

I would agree - plus, these new guys (and there are a lot of them!) can no longer revert to Russball, having never played it ... so no excuses now 😂

Ipswich also making some big signings. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Leicester. Surely they need to sell players.

They need a points deduction...

If I was Ross Stewart and I'd worked my nuts off for two years to get fit after a nasty injury that was no fault of mine I'd be sick of hearing this ten times a day on here (and often from you)

He was ill last week - but so was Downs

When was Ross last injured? 3rd April this year.

He played in the last eight games of our PL season and scored against Arsenal. He had a full pre-season and seems to be moving freely. He was millimetres away from two goals away at Norwich; so he was in the right place just not quite there.

He's never shown any hint of laziness or bad attitude that we as fans have seen.

Why can't you just try to embrace some of the positivity we have right now and enjoy what could be a really rewarding recovery to form this year. Maybe it won't be - but that's the thing with the soap opera of football - you never know quite what's going to happen next. This week is prime example.

I will love it if LND starts knocking them in for us like he did for Sunderland, and we have recruited the players to supply him.

Not replace him no, but maybe another body into the squad

We'll clearly bring in some decent players towards the end of the window and you'll all be saying "oh actually this season might not be too bad, I'm actually kind of excited"

How was my prediction? Actually too pessimistic in the end? 😀

The other thing to remember is Stewart is in the last year of his contract, so he has every possible motivation to play and play well. Do a good job and fire us to promotion, and he gets a renewal or at worst a top of championship team. If he doesn't play, he'll be with a champ struggler or L1 team. We'll see him at his best I reckon, and certainly against Norwich he looked like he's getting close, he was good closing down and also winning the ball when it was sent long to him.

Fair points - maybe I’m being naive, but I think shifting players in the positions we want to bring in will be key (e.g Edozie for Scienza and Bree for Jelert).

Edozie, Smallbone, BBD just need to go if they want to play any football this season.

Definitely.

So deadline day. What are we thinking/hoping?

Out

Smallbone, Aribo, Bree, Edozie, BBD

In

RB - Jelert?

CM

LW - Scienza?

Ins dependent on who/how many we manage to offload.

Can’t see another CM coming in.

Probably not, but unless I'm mistaken we only have 3 senior CM's if Aribo and Smallbone leave. That's not including Matsuki as I think he's more of a 10.

Out:

Edozie
Bree
BBD

Smallbone

Aribo

In:

Scienza or Rak Sakyi

Jelert

Striker (Kasper Dolberg/Josh Sargent mould)

and I will absolutely spaff in my pants.

PS any ideas why this post is formatting like a twat?

Thats a worry for me too. Sesay may be better spending the season on loan and with 3 CMs we're only a suspension or injury away from looking thin and being in the square peg, round hole scenario. But we have 3 very good CMs for this level so bringing a squad option in looks like the only option, and that can only be a loan really. Or... we keep Sesay or Bragg or someone and use the youth.

What a day! I hope we can shift out the deadwood over the weekend. Still think we are weak at CB with Stephens being choice and the lack not apparent goals up top. Hopefully one of them will prove me wrong and bag 25 goals.
