Also those 3 players were very tough competitors with strong leadership qualities too. Seems obvious to be signing these types of players to anyone , but it seems it’s taken a while / having someone who knows what they’re doing in charge of transfers, for this to actually happen again.
santolijador Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Some window this. I think that one of the biggest challenges coming into this summer for Spors was a squad refresh. Shipping off players who have had their chance and have been scarred by system managers. I appreciate that there are a fair few pending outgoings, I would say that I think that it is normal that those are taking their time, what with the demand for those players being naturally low after the season that we have had. But adding a manager who doesn't care about style and just wants to win is a massive plus, but bringing in 3/4 players who by the end of the season would expect to be starting, plus hopefully getting rid of plenty who have been too close to our starting XI for too long is some going. Not done yet, but all these rumours - the new RB to replace Bree, Scienza to replace BBD and Edozie - even if they don't come off, I think that we can take some confidence from this, in that it appears Still and Spors have a better talent ID than previous individuals in those roles. I tihnk it will take a couple more windows yet to do in it's entirety, but I am enjoying the rebuild so far. 5

Left one either, come to think of it. 🤪 I guess the Guilavogui link was just one of those that clubs put out there to speed other deals along. That said, it was in a link the other day that the Lens manager said Morgan was on his way out, so maybe there was some truth to it. That, the Scienza and the Spertsyan links, theres no smoke without fire but we can't sign everyone. 2

The Kraken Posted August 29 Posted August 29 1 hour ago, TheSoundman said: Does feel a bit like signing Lambert / Hammond / Fonte - stars for this level I think Jose Fonte really has to go down as one of the best signings in league one ever. I have palace mates and used to go to Selhurst for a few games a season back then, when they were in the championship. Fonte always looked a cut above, his weakness back then was that he could undo it by making one big mistake in a game. Nonetheless he was a very, very good championship defender. To see him drop down from that level to the league below was remarkable. To even be able to slightly compare to that is very encouraging. 3

Sesay may be better spending the season on loan and with 3 CMs we're only a suspension or injury away from looking thin and being in the square peg, round hole scenario. But we have 3 very good CMs for this level so bringing a squad option in looks like the only option, and that can only be a loan really. Or... we keep Sesay or Bragg or someone and use the youth. Edwards can play there too
SNSUN Posted August 29 Posted August 29 10 minutes ago, chownie20 said: Edwards can play there too Hence the square peg in a round hole scenario. Jack, Manning and Matsuki can all probably do a job there but that's hardly ideal. I wouldn't be surprised to see a loan if we ship Aribo and Will. 1
woodsaint1 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Spors and our scouts must have been busy watching the Euro Under 21 Championship in the summer. Jander, Jelert and Fellows all featured, although we would've been aware of Fellows already. I wonder if there were any other players who caught our eye

CB Fry Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I see Ipswich made a flurry of signings today as well. Never really heard of any of them but they all look pretty underwhelming using my usual Wikipedia review. None jump out as anyone we have missed out on.

No way they sell him to Ipswich, the Nunez deal hasn't gone down well at all, expect riots if this now happens. Like us selling our best players to pompey. 2

I had a quick gander at their spaz board earlier and they seem to think that they’ve had a slightly better few days than us, even though they’ve lost 3 or 4 of their main dudes and we’ve signed proved champ ballers They’re convinced it’s us and them top 2, just not sure of the order.

Interesting seeing perspective of other fans, Spurs fan at work asked me how we'd cope without Dibling, explained he wasn't a player we were particularly relying on anyway. It will be good to see a full summary of championship ins and outs on Monday evening, get an idea of who then is best placed to challenge. 1

sambosa75 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Interesting couple of days. Nice to see some decent incomings although shame about Fetnandes. Anyone else’s excitement tempered somewhat by this perseverance with the Bazunu in goal experiment? He’s going to cost us points. Arguably already has. 2nd versus Stoke was easily saveable. 7

Bazunu is shite, I think many are agreed on that. The management somehow don't see it, which baffles me. The main quality is surely shot-stopping, which he is so feeble with. Dives late, crisp-packet wrists, pure shite. 9

Saveable, sure, but 'easily'? I blame Stephens more than Bazunu. He was stretching across with the wrong leg and prevented a clear view of the striker contacting the ball. Essential for any predictive save. 3

scumbag Posted August 30 Posted August 30 (edited) Frustrating to come out of the window with the worst keeper in the division as our number 1. I think the delusion is the hysteria that he is. 15
AlexLaw76 Posted August 30 Posted August 30 Just opened an article that was titled - "Southampton have a major transfer decision to make as clubs circle for star" Thought, here we go, THB off is he, or Charles? Nope, BBD apparently 🤪 1

Agree, we know his shot stopping could be improved upon but the rest of his game is pretty solid actually. There are better but clearly there are worse as well. I certainly would've liked a keeper to challenge Bazunu but it's not the end of the world. 3

He's been one of our biggest dissapointing transfers in the last 5-10 years for me, and seeing some of the utter shite we have signed in that time thats saying something. 3
