Leicester forums yesterday saying that Martin is 100% done, that they're also trying to sign someone from saints,

Seeing as Martin isn't a fan of wingers taking players on (not sure that is true to be honest, but that's what this forum surmised) and Will Still likes wingers (that's what I read on here yesterday) and Leicester are short of a bob or two, maybe we could look to take Mavididi and Fatawu off their hands? Realistically, that's never going to happen, as they'd want too much for them.

maybe this Lederer bloke does but Spors left Hoffenheim when he was 10 so unlikely it's one he knows much about. Quick, strong centre back = good, shit tackler = not good. Hopefully not another SR special.

Yeah with Spors I was thinking it's more likely that he's still got good connections at the club as he worked there for 8 years.

He obviously knows Lederer well from there, as he's just hired him. And Lederer will have recommended Quarshie as he's been overseeing youth development at Hoffenheim, where Quarshie has been a youth player.

My point is that our new head scout will have had a very good 'proper' look at him and will have used the eye test to form an educated view of his strengths and the areas he needs to develop, rather than him being a 'spreadsheet' signing.

They also said Martin is 100% not happening and it's Rohl instead so 🤷‍♂️

If Leicester sign Rohl then I hope we take them apart next year.

Greuther Furth vs Hamburg (who finished 2nd) league game from 10 days ago is up in full on the YouTubes if anyone wants a long look at Quarshie, who started for Greuther Furth, against reasonable opposition.

I've done 10 minutes. He's made one block, a really clumsy foul that should've been a yellow card, and launched a pretty impressive throw in into the box.

And he's just tried and failed to play an attacker offside but recovered to block another shot.

I'm not watching any more. But I can confirm he A) exists and B) is tall.

Maybe a similar trajectory / pedigree to Bella-Kotchap...? (Only without the alleged attitude problem, hopefully)

Yeah, or THB when we signed him. Capped at every international youth level by his country, but still got some development to do so has been getting some experience of playing regularly out on loan.

Werder Bremen reported to have pulled out of an approach for Danny Rohl:

https://eflanalysis.com/news/werder-bremen-have-just-pulled-out-of-danny-rohl-pursuit-as-sheffield-wednesday-handed-major-problem/

If Leicester pass on him too in favour of Martin, then if reports are true that will be Saints, Leicester, Werder and Leipzig who've all been interested in him but decided against it. Sounds like Chansiri is being an absolute nightmare to deal with on it, basically as a fuck you to Rohl for trying to walk out when he's under contract.

I've got nothing against the bloke but after he so spectacularly burned his bridges at his current club, it would be hilarious if he ended up still there for the new season because no-one else ended up taking him.

Tyler Magloire was short.

The transfer window has not even opened yet so many deals can be expected. This guy is obviously known to the new recruitment guy and likely to be one for the squad who will hopefully improve over time. No need to panic yet.

No panicking by any means. Look at his record so far.very similar hire to ones we have made recently, all of which came with recommendations and high reputations.

My point is that I don’t mind these sorts of hires alongside proven ones that will strengthen us now and make football enjoyable to watch again without the main driver being how much we can sell him for. Luckily I don’t own the club, so my selfish view is to spend my money on watching an able team perform. We have been waiting and seeing now for a few years and surprisingly ones’s tolerance to watching shyte reduces.

Apparently Juan is staying at Goztepe next season. How much did Saints pay for him? Anyone know if we've received a loan fee or anything?

Juan was out of contract at Sao Paulo, Saints paid 900k EUROS to get him early. Goztepe paid a loan fee for him.

Sorry to come over all MLG (ew), but -

Quarshie is being signed from Hoffenheim.

Spors was an analyst, head scout and head of recruitment at Hoffenheim from 2007 - 2015.

A week ago we announced that our new head scout was going to be Tim Lederer, who is/ was Hoffenheim's youth squad planner.

I think it's fair to say that this is a player that our new scouting and recruitment team know pretty well, and that he will have been properly (e.g. traditionally) scouted and those people will have had eyes on him for some time.

He's also been picked for Germany at under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level (though he hasn't got into the side for the under-21s yet). So we may not have heard of him, but he's got a pretty decent pedigree for a young player in Germany.

Still not convinced.  He’s made 1 sub appearance for Hoffenheim.  Another squad filler probably no better than what we already have.

its exactly the opposite. Our incoming head of Scouting has worked with him for the last 3 years.

Tim Lederer brought him to Hoffenheim from Essen in the year Hoffenheims u23s won league and cup.

They must be delighted.  Made 1 sub appearance and they’re getting shot for £3.5million.

45 games for Hoffenheim 2 as well.

Given he's €1.5 million cheaper than Kayi Sanda, seems a fair price to compensate for the work going through their set up.

I watched quite a bit of the game. He looked more comfortable on the ball than in his youtube highlights video, but because he is so tall he still looks a little ungainly. I didn't see a rolls royce of a player. What I noticed is that Greuther Furt played two centre backs and both got tight to attackers following them quite high up the pitch, the manager trusting they had the pace to cover back if the ball went over the top. A couple of times, though not exposed, the striker feigned going short, then went long and he was left for dead. The thing I liked most about him was that he was always moving/repositioning in anticipation of something going wrong, which some of our centre backs fail to do.

Ungainly was certainly a word that sprang to mind. To be fair, Konate at Liverpool looks a bit like Bambi on ice at times, but seems to make it work for him.

I've watched a bit more of Quarshie, and there's no way we'd be signing someone that raw for the first team squad if we were still a Premier League team fighting for our lives (or whatever you'd call the "fight" we put up this season). As a Championship side expected to dominate a lot of games, there's probably something there to try and polish up at an easier level - and for a minor outlay that we can probably make back selling him for parts if it comes down to it.

'Selling him for parts' if he doesnt make it. Love the analogy.

Long throw option using Quarshie...

Now that is a game changing option.

He's tall enough to cause havoc in the opposition box, chucks in a great long throw, and is insanely quick. He'll be able to get on the end of his own assists.

Are you allowed to take a throw in straight to yourself?

Positive quotes from Fernandes today:

“I’ve never been in a place like this one. I can enjoy everything – even the weather here is good! The atmosphere is amazing, even when we are losing. I’m very happy to be here, I’m enjoying my time here.”

“They show me in every game that they like me. That game against Leicester was unbelievable, I have never been in one place like that, singing my song almost the whole second half. It was very nice.”

“I have a contract with Southampton. The next season will be different, I hope. Maybe we can play much better and win many, many games. We will work for that, train for that and I think we can do much better than this year.”

I know Livramento did the same two years ago, claiming he owed the club something after his long injury before scurrying off to Newcastle, but there's still a hope in me that there is still some loyalty in today's game.

Very easy for a player to say he doesn't know where his future lies also. Think Alcaraz was very open and non-committal with talks of his future when we got relegated with him.

Fernandes plays in the Championship, we've got the best player.

If he goes, he goes, and I can't fault him at all for that. You have to grasp opportunities as they come.

If he does stay, it will be even better than when we kept KWP in 2023/24. I don't expect he will. Not only is he far too good for the Championship, but there is a lot of money to be made on him. But his value can't be measured simply by stats and numbers. This might be very naive thinking from me, but maybe some clubs will see 2 goals in 36 games and a 12-point season and not think he's all that? I don't know, but could our terrible season be a benefit for us this window, and mask the potential of our stronger players?

Could Fernandes be this years KWP? A player with absolutely no place in the Championship, but stuck around and was predictably ridiculous at that level.

I'll continue to expect him to leave though, just so my expectations are in check!

I won't accept that he'll still be here through next season (or half of it at least) until September 2nd. But as one of our most valuable assets I also suspect SR are fully capable of cashing in.

As much as we rightfully bash SR and their scouting, we do have to acknowledge the gem they've pulled out of nowhere here.

He’ll be this years JWP. Head down and professional, but will end up going later in the window when clubs work their way down their list of targets and stump up the cash we want.
