He was brilliant when they knocked Liverpool out of the cup.  I’m not sure where he would be in the clever bollocks stakes though, or how highly Football Manager rate him so probably a no.

I hope they don't earmark the older, experienced pro position in the back line to Stephens. Someone like Ben Mee would be perfect. If we play three at the back then:

Sanda 

Edwards 

Mee 

Quarshie 

Stephens (would prefer he left tbh) 

Would be good options in the championship. If we go into it without another one then I'd worry that we leave ourselves light on experience.

Thats about the nub of it - not speculation, as I heard the pretty much the same from someone inside the club at the time. If we had played him in Europa League games, if Man Utd had stuck in an offer in January the value would have dropped through being cup tied in Europe, which would have been no good to our selling club profile.

Yes therefore they would be at the top of the range I said. They would not beat top half championship clubs. 

Hence why I described the range of Bundesliga 2 bringing Championship 12th to League One 8th.

They are bigger than any team in the bottom half of the Championship. They would be top half sides. They are huge in comparison to the majority of Championship clubs, on infrastructure, income and fanbase size. Player quality wise, they'd also be top half.

He's not talking club size he's talking about the football quality.

Those teams you mentioned go from no.1 to no.14 in the table this year so i think the quality of mid championship is probably fair.

A former CB of ours now at Birmingham has just had an excellent season, Christoph Klarer. 24, 6'3. I doubt he'd move, he just won their POTS and fans POTS awards (admittedly at L1 level) but it shows the players are out there if you look.

With this fella, and Sanda in the U21's, we have a couple of absolute physical beasts of CB's. It'll be interesting to see how they develop over the coming years in the rest of their game, if we get a chance to enjoy them that is.

Something I hoped ABK would bring us was pace and power when he signed, and at the start he kind of did, but that didn't really equate to anything further.

There's a hell of a lot more to defending than just being quick and powerful, but they are two pretty unique ticks to have in the box as a CB for sure. 

From what I've read this fella seems like he's more in line with the first team than Sanda, but we'll see how both go. Definitely a sign that our first signing is quick and powerful.

It's all relative. Liam Delap, THB, Downes were all relatively big money signings the year we went down last time albeit they were loans with options to buy. We almost bought Piroe last time out and he would have been a big money buy.

Part of our downfall was there was no real plan to replace championship players with premier league ones... The players we got In were poor, (fernandes aside) are we just going to repeat the exact same mistakes again should we ever get promoted? They knew the likes of AA and Stephen's smallbone frasier etc were never going to cut it in the premier league

This guy looks like he has got the right attitude and has the height and pace but at just 20 is he ready or more a signing for the future?

Mansfield IIRC. Won at Southend in round one. Bale got his debut under Burley much later that season. Walcott definitely featured under him though.

Yeah Bale was under him at spurs, struggled for a year or so then suddenly filled out and became what he was. Redknapp Was all up for getting rid of him at one point rather than bring the genius behind is progress

I'm fairly sure Bale's debut was also Pahars' last ever game for us. Might have been Cardiff at SMS but it was definitely under GB.

On Jose Fonte, he changed his agent to Jorge Mendes before winning the Euros. An agent who had lots of contacts at the bigger clubs, and was Jose Mourinho's, the manager of Manchester United at the time. I know we don't know completely what went on, but that public knowledge suggests Fonte wasn't completely keen on staying here. It's still funny how West Ham ended up being his best offer and then China, but he did seem to have a late career revival.

On Bale, I always thought he made his debut against Derby on the opening day, where he also scored. But, turns out he started against Millwall in April of 2006.
