Go on Palace...

Gives me hope we can get back into that Euro contender position one day...

Weirdly, if anything, Palace and Villa's successes don't fill me with hope.

They fill me with anger and frustration. We wasted our good years under Poch and Koeman. Nothing to show for it. Fuck.

Was saying earlier when loads of Palace fans were on our flight to Berlin that it is much easier to win the lower level European trophy than a domestic one.
West Ham winning a couple of years back, a semi final this year between Villa and Forest with Villa winning it, and now Palace looking like winning in Europe today as it stands. There are some dross sides in Europe outside of the elite that play in the champions league, but this has only became a wider gap with so many more teams making the champions league, meaning that there are more in Europe that are very easy to beat in the European lower competitions.

2 out of 2 - Well done Palace - just Arsenal to make it a full set.

Indeed. However much people might say the premier league isn’t a good standard now 3 European finalists and two winners so far.

can’t help but feel a bit jealous of clubs like Palace winning things and playing in Europe.

Agreed, if anything I’m just angry that these clubs we were miles ahead of, even recently, are now so much further ahead of where we are. The team we had at the end of this year was looking like a step back towards good times but this almighty cock up will set us back.

I feel similar to when we lost to Derby in the playoffs in 2006/7, the disappointment of not getting promoted was nothing compared to the knowledge that the team we’d see the following season would be stripped of all talent. Feel similar right now.

Not sure how accurate this is, but I’ve read somewhere that Burnley getting relegated has got them more money than Inter Milan winning Serie A.

Mental if true.

If it was us there would be about 30% of this forum desperate for us to play the kids/reserves and get knocked out of the Conference League at the earliest possible opportunity.

So true. We can’t have anything distracting us from our league matches so we can finish high enough to qualify for it next season

They’ve created the Conference for the mid table teams and clear PL runs deeper than any other league. PL teams should be winning it every year

I used to be right behind any English team in Europe but far less bothered now. If Rayo had’ve beaten Palace I would have been equally pleased

You can see why Palace fans are called Nigels. Loads of middle aged blokes in glasses every time the camera went on their fans

Their support did look surprisingly un- diverse for a London team, compared to , say Arsenal.

Uefa conference is the European equivalent of JPT.  Nice enough to win but completely irrelevant and doesn't really count for anything, it's a participation trophy.

Not really, sure it's lower ranked European sides, but the accolades are similar to the Europa League. It's a major European trophy.

Palace didn't have any trophies in 2024, but they now have an FA Cup, Community Shield and a European Trophy to boot. Credit to them. And they sold some of their best players during that period too.

I'm with others in the frustration. We had Pele, Mane, Morgan, Wanyama, Toby, Fonte, Clyne, Bertrand, Tadic all in the same team at one point - sure, we finished 6th and 7th to get Europe, but our first effort was a shambles as we didn't even get to the groups, second time we didn't get out of the groups. A really poor showing all round.

And don't get me started on our FA Cup opportunities under Poch....(Sundarland away...)

I don’t think I could cope with that level of irrelevance

Slot is sacked. Seems a bit harsh after finishing first and fifth, with all the Salah BS and everything else he's had to deal with.

Yeah don't underestimate what losing Jofra would have on the squad.

Took them forward last season after years of being held back by Klopp. Now got to rebuild his aging team. Very harsh I’d like to see him continue his good work at that truly special football club

Since when the fuck did the champions league final move to a 5pm kick off? Only just realised it kicked off at 5! Was looking forward to watching that tonight.

Well taken goal and nearly a second before half time. In between, under  enough pressure that Arsenal celebrated getting a corner just at half time. Tough old second half to come. Hopefully 1 nil to the Arsenal will be enough.

Penalty.

Arsenal can't expect to just defend for 85-90 mins against PSG without some serious threat.

Havertz scored a brilliant goal but offering very little-nothing as the target man, which is what Arsenal need to get up the pitch

Extra time.

Arsenal have been looking to contain PSG, and take advantage of any, rare opportunity. I thought Barcolinwas going to score in the last second. On the plus side some key PSG players have come off, and Arsenal's subs are good.

Trouble is Havertz is operating alone - a number of occasions he’s won a good knock-down and no-ones there to pick up the 2nd ball. As the game gets stretched it suits PSG who are looking more likely to score the winner.

Been watching this. PSG haven't been great but they did just enough to get to extra time. Arsenal have defended well apart from the penalty but now it's a case of who is more tired. PSG still have subs to make, Eze and Zubimendi on for Arsenal. which are good subs although Lewis-Skelly has had a good game.

I can see this going to penalties.

I thought Arsenal just sat back for too long in that game, when Gyokores came on they started to play on the front foot a bit more and started to look dangerous. They never lost because of this, but they threw away a lead.

The penalties though. Those wanky run ups like what Eze did iare awful.

Great season for them though, got to the latter stages of 3 of the 4 competitions they were in, and won 1 of them (probably the most important from their PoV).

Players that do those stupid stuttered run ups in penalty shootouts and miss deserve the pain of losing. Letting your fans down by being a complete bellend.

Rashford in the Euro final springs to mind.
