This bit in the article y9u posted caught my eye.

Quote

Bremen’s interest in Downs comes with Keke Topp (21) yet to score in 390 league minutes this season, while Victor Boniface, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, is also yet to find the net.

Can clearly see why they see Downes as the answer.

Glad their recruitment of strikers has been as good as ours, perhaps their Head of Scouting will be brought to Saints in the summer.

Can't beleive so many fans were taken in by the club PR bullshit about someone they'd never heard of when he signed. Simeone needs holding to account for this disaster - no injuries, no adjustment required - just simply way off it. Pathetic......

Lettuce enjoy this moment and mayo never be seen in a Saints shirt again!

The worst signing under SR?

Worst signing under any owners ever I should think. Even Carillo managed to look vaguely like an actual footballer at times.

Agreed, I severely doubt we'll hear about him ever again now.

Except for when Hamburg don't exercise the option to buy in the summer and we have to find some other sucker to take him off our wage bill for next season.

Hope he does well enough that they sign him permanently. Probably top 5, maybe top 3 worst ever forward I’ve seen play for us.

At least @Turkish can stop predicting him to score in match build up threads now

Why? Still as much chance of him scoring for us now as then... ;)

To be fair, the fact that he's gone to Hamburg hasn't in any way affected the likelihood of him scoring in our next match.

Either that or how he ended up scoring 15 for Hamburg.

Exactly, what mugs would honestly invest in this dud ?

Don't disagree with the sentiment but was Carillo worse?  He was fucking awful as well.  I appreciate this is like arguing over whether horse shit or dog shit is better!

We’ve spent way more on players who’ve been equally useless. £7m isn’t much of a transfer fee these days and we’ll probably get a reasonable chunk of it back eventually.

Carrillo, Sully, Osvaldo and Delgado were all more expensive and did f**k all. Let’s not even get started on the cheaper players who were worse.

Sad day when a potentially awesome leader of the offensive line is driven out of the franchise. He could be been a phenomenal head shot converter and a star performer on the roster. We will never get to see it.

Look, he's been an absolutely terrible signing, there should rightly be some accountability taken by the transfer committee on this abject failure.

However, equally, some comfort should be taken that the situation was reversed at the very first opportunity, that there's the potential to make money and not lose money and we're not persisting with a player who is obviously not suited to this league.

I'd be more worried if we were either loaning him out and ringing the "Long term prospect" bell or playing the "He has the quality to adjust long term" card

Delgado wasn't more expensive. I think we paid about £3million for him.

I think the option to buy is wishful thinking rather than rooted in any possible future. In the same way Juventus were going to pay us £40m for Alcaraz.

Although we had to sign Chala too to keep him company for some reason. Think he was an extra million.

THAT Osvaldo goal was worth the transfer fee.....as i didn't have to pay it.

Yep, no Chickens have been counted. However, the fact we've even managed to get that 10m option in there is still a win given how abject he's been for us.

If the winds behind him, every fan in the crowd crosses their fingers, we do a little goal dance every Saturday, you never know, he may score a few goals and they end up signing him.

That would be lovely.

I can also see him scoring 2 goals in 20 and Saints deciding to build our front line around him.

Elyanoussi got to be up there. A truly awful player. Wasn't he meant to be the replacement for Tadic? Spent two seasons on loan and the only good thing i remember anyone saying about him was Ralph saying he was good against the ball.

He looked like he won a competition with the Saints Foundatiuon to get on the pitch on matchday.

Absolutely f'kin useless dollop.......and he probably voted for Trump as well !!

Yep, he’s shit and has been deservedly punted after 4 months, which shows we can be fairly ruthless.

Makes you wonder why Bazunu has been given 4 years and counting though, when he’s basically Downs in keeper form. Those nudes he’s got of Rasmus must be quite something.

Worst player I’ve ever seen for us. I wasn’t around for Ali Dia, but I can’t imagine him being worse.

Yeah, in like 2001. He was about half a million off being our record signing back then, probably about £20-25m in today’s fees.

Delgado scored 2 goals, against Arsenal and Liverpool.

It’s a toss up between him and BBD for me. Both look like competition winners.

Unfortunately Downs made a bad job of looking like a footballer, let alone a lone CF. I mean he managed to get dressed in a kit, but that’s the extent of his contribution. However, his lone deal is absolutely pointless if SR manage to either not sign a proper CF or sign another dud. I suggest you do not hold your breath!
