When is this football club finally going to take the centre forward position seriously. I'm sick of the dross we bring in time and time again and this bloke follows the same pattern. Another cheap option on the wage books.

If you do the maths on this lad, he is about 1 goal a game...

I confidently predict he will be the best Canadian player we’ve had since Jim Brennan

Just the centre forward postion?

I can understand why we would sell Armstrong now. It's finally clear that as a team we need a central physically dominant focal point for the attack which then frees Leo, Fellows & Azaz. Armstrong cant do that, so if Stewart gets injured we have no one else. Armstrong is essentially competition for Fellows in a 4231.

Larin to me is not an Armstrong replacement, he's a Stewart insurance so we can keep playing 4231 and get the best out of our attacking strength.

I agree Larin looks nothing special, but all he needs to do is occupy the CB's and be an outlet that allows us to play further up the pitch.

I think it's difficult to judge strikers. They score 20 for one club, move, then lose their way

This guy could be anything, it just depends on if we play a way that suits his strengths

He hasn't scored many goals in last few seasons so cant be stepping up but dropping down to play for Saints.

I'll give him a chance in first 3 games but if he's as bad as DD then god help us.

Maybe his Ecxel data is very good.

Remember when people laughed when Kieffer Moore was suggested.....

I did as absurd to give a player of that age a 3-year deal like Wrexham did, and I doubt he is on little money.

Is this the 18yo CB we were linked with?

He must have strangely preferred Udinese's project in Serie A to Rasmus's project in Never Never Land.

This geezer sounds and looks absolutely woeful. Even Damion Downs immediate CV over the last couple of years looked more promising than this guys. What an absolute joke. So as it’s due to stand, we’ve currently got Stewart and this chump as our striking options at the club. Sport republics incompetence and cluelessness is showing no signs of slowing down

Seeing Norwich linked to Hogh from Bodo Glimt, would prefer us to go for someone like in form that than loaning in this geezer from Feyenoord.

Norwich’s board are slightly different to ours though, they actually have a fucking clue what they’re doing - as proven in the Clement appointment

Sad to see so little entusiasm on here for Larin's arrival. I mean, the guy hasn't set foot in the place yet let alone kicked a football. Judgement without a trial.

Come on lads give him a chance. Arthur Scargill would have been an upgrade on our current crop of strikers.

True he's in better form but apart from a few goals in the champions league he doesn't have much of a CV. Would be just as much of a gamble IMO.

True, but I was more going for the club signing someone who is in form banging in some goals.

Our scouts aren't trying to watch him to find out if he's good. We already know that.

I thought our scouts were bankers with first aid qualifications for when someone who knows something falls over in surprise that we've signed a donkey.

Or kids on the youth training or something..

Or people who watch videos while they cook.

Probably lining themselves up for promotion to VAR.

Downs had scored 11 the season just before we signed him. That worked out superbly for us

Fuck me.

Every time I think I hate sport republic 100%, they do something which makes me find new levels of hatred.

Not even a massive fan of Arma, but this is ridiculous

Loan seems very logical to me given the timing of both AA and Archer moves. Revisit in the summer.

It would be logical but for the fact a)we don’t have to release AA (unless we have a suitable replacement and are getting a good £ for him, £7m I don’t think we are)

b)the incoming player isn’t a steaming pile of turd

3 games? How generous 🤣

I think it looks a poor signing on the face of it but willing to give him an actual chance.

We're haemorrhaging money and want to recoup, hence why no perm signing. Aribo and Armstrong are two of our highest earners, and Archer has been shit, and we have a bloated squad that is unlikely to get promoted.

If I owned the club I'd be doing the same, as most sane people would. Don't know anything about Larin, but not sure who I'd get on loan instead.

hmm. that sounds worse than archer or Armstrong.

Edit: AH you meant at right wing didnt you? Has he looked OK there?

Not really. Overall he's not very good but a lot of people like him because:

a) they don't know anything about footy despite watching it week in and out for years

b) he made a cumbersome (half a Cruyff turn, no idea of the 'official' name, but it's an easy skill)) pass to a player that led to an attempt against 'that lot down the road' where he was in acres of space as was the receiver i.e. it was a bit open in  the middle of the park at that time.

Nowhere near fast enough, skilful enough, strong enough, intelligent enough for the league above (would he touch the ball?) so overall not good enough. This league is quite poor in terms of ability so he might look ok against a load of journeymen on huge wages.

Seen Cyle Larin play for Feyenoord a few times. Absolute shite. I mean, really shite! We'd have been better keeping Aribo and playing him as a CF.

The Feyenoord fans think he's a joke.

"Throughout his time on the pitch, Larin was involved in build-ups and created pressure, but he was caught offside at least once and never quite managed to convert his touches into a decisive moment.  His substitution drew cheers on social media with Feyenoord fans frustrated over his missed chances and general lack of end product on a night when Feyenoord needed clinical finishing."

What a fucking insult. Sell the second highest scorer in the league and replace him with a 30 year old Canadian who rarely starts for Feyenoord and is just an older, slower version of Downs.

If Larin is the forward coming better get praying that Ross Stewart stays fit for the remainder of the season 🙏

Take a bit more than praying, whatever your faith.

I wince whenever he looks like breaking into a sprint, in sympathy.

If the poor sod makes it to the seasons end without further collapse he'll at least have demonstrated his motivation wasn't the weak link.

Nah, you would have to buy at a premium for that. Not the way we roll...

Definitely something wrong with our scouting* if these are the players that are being recommended

*thats if we even have any scouts left. Probably relying on spotty data analysts brought in by Rasmus

Getting rid of Armstrong or Archer for this chump just looks like madness. I don’t know why anyone would think a 30 year old with that shit scoring record is going to suddenly start banging them in in the Championship. Fucking mental.

Two alternative takes.

In EA FC 26, Archer is rated 72, Armstrong 73 and Larin 77

From ai

Cyle Larin is a 6'2" Canadian striker known for his physical strength, ability to hold up the ball with his back to goal, and sharp finishing inside the penalty area. His main strengths include, but are not limited to, aerial ability, positioning, and an "instinct" for finding the back of the net.

I think this is a long term decision with next season in mind. Get money for Armstrong given his contract is running low then be in a better financial position to strengthen in the summer.

Worst case scenario Larin sees us through to comfortable mid table. Best case he gives better balance to the team and even if he doesn't score many himself, he helps others to.

It's not an exciting outcome for the fans but there's a cold logic to it.

I honestly think if we get rid of Armstrong and archer we need two strikers through the door and then we’re going to play one up top  for the rest of the season

Yep. Most of us would have have been up in arms if we'd signed 33 year old Kiefer Moore in the summer. With hindsight he'd have been what we needed.

Wnat physical centre forward are you suggesting we could/should have got in the January window? Please don't talk about what we could/should have done on previous windows - right here, right now, who's the alternative?

Slightly unfair, we are not working at a ‘professional’ football club as a scout, coach, manager or owner, we just support them, it really is not our job. Maybe if they had not made such screw ups at the club, we would not be so sceptical.

I’ll put money that Ankersen’s brother’s Transfer Room is involved in this deal.

Stinks.

Bet they’re involved in all the deals. All a bit convenient that we sign these players based on data, don’t actually watch them play and his brother owns a transfer site.  Sounds very suspect
