His movement in the box is dogshit, he’s always waiting for the ball and never makes little runs.  His finishing is shit, misses loads of good chances.  He is shit at penalties.

I don’t need xG.  I see it most weeks at St Mary’s.

We knew two years ago that he isn't a striker and should be playing off the wing where movement matters less and where he will still score plenty of goals

We are gonna be stuck with Joe Aribo and his huge salary until the summer aren’t we? 🤦‍♂️

Is that a euphemism...?

Is 15m really that much money for a 20  goal a season championship striker ? AA is pretty much guaranteed goals at this level and is versatile enough to play wide too and still score 20 a season from there ..

it’s a new level of stupid if we let him go and would be writing off the season for a poxy 15 million

I can see where you are going but 15m still gets a decent player. I wonder if the club are financially hurting and we need to get some fees in plus lose wages. After all we have Archer , but we would need to get someone in if he does fgo

not sure they do, do they?

They don't. It's all done automatically by an algorithm that 'supposedly' compares the opportunity with database of what it considers to be similar historical examples.  No human beings were involved in the generation of these figures.

How many chances did he have and what percentage of shots did he score? I agree his output has been prolific but he's required a heck of a lot of chances to achieve that output. In the PL chances are harder to come by which is why I think he'll never be good enough to make the step up.

You could argue that he makes those chances with his movement etc, but equally you could argue that the team has been geared up to try and take advantage of his pace and movement.

A more natural striker would have scored a lot more with those chances and I suspect this is what SR thought Archer would be.

For me it's time to move on and start building a team for tomorrow.

Percentage of shots?

Means nothing in isolation.  Maybe he creates more opportunities for shots than others but is not as clinical as top level strikers? That could be why he was not as effective in the Premier League?

Statistically a goal every 2 games sounds good, but in reality he goes long spells with no goals (or assists), like now. He doesn't contribute when we are struggling, but has a purple patch when we are playing well (cause and effect).

A goal every two games does not equate with going long spells without scoring.

Doubt they would drop the 15m all on a striker anyway it would just weaken us and be a total gamble as to whether they replaced him properly ..

we already sold onuachu and replaced hm with Damion downs and he would have been the perfect big man everyone wants us to sign at this level.Paul is way better then Stewart and we could have really done with him in the championship

Unless he has stated he wants to leave. In which case it may be worth it - if we can get in suitable replacement.

The problem is that Sports Republic are being trusted with that decision.

Birmingham have just outbid Ajax for a player. £7m outlay for a club that hasn’t been in the premier league for 15 years.

Meanwhile at this club who were in the prem last year and who are £74m up on player trading this year there is not a single rumour or penny spent all window. Make it make sense.

Put coal in a dutch mans arse and it will come out a diamond, they are so tight.

They make the scots seem generous.

Yes, £15m is a lot for a guy who can’t do it at a higher level and is nearly 29.

Maybe we did, but we didn't make a player trading profit the summer before.

The player trading roughly evens itself out over the course of several years, but outside of that, the club has been losing money each year (for the last three or four years) due to the expenditure exceeding income. It will be interesting to see the 2025 accounts in a few months time.

Year before we got promoted so would have made millions from that.

Not Joe Aribo’s fault the club offered him stupid money.

He’s well within his right to sit around and not do much. Doesn’t seem like the most productive thing to do in a short footballing career.

Footballers careers can nosedive in two years. Look at where people like Sterling or Walker were a few years back compared to now. It happens with all sorts of players. Berahino back in the day too.

Championship teams don't tend to spend £15m on players too often. Those that have, haven't always got the return they wanted.

We paid £15m for him. At that point he was a 28 goal a season championship striker that we imagined would make the step up. Since then we have found he can't do it in the PL and he's become a 20 goal man and now maybe just a 16 goal a season striker. Not to be sniffed at. Does Archer get 11 goals of he got the same minutes?

18 months left of his contract. His value goes down from here.

We'd be getting our money back. It would be great business. Not sure Boro can pay that much though.

we will probably end up selling him then our replacement wont happen, we'll rely on Stewart and Archer for the rest of the season. It'll be spun as a great deal for the club, a master class in player trading etc
