I was just waiting for him to come on as a sub. but scoring inside 2 minutes was a real surprise, and

with Ross Stewart's departure now confirmed , at last we have " a real no.9 "  with all the right qualities.

Big, fast and able to " take care of himself" .  Being " the main man " now will do wonders for his confidence

and Saints did well to sign him when they did, and we can hope he continues to improve. To my mind

he is perfect for the English game, and praise to TE for giving him the support needed for his game style.

Not his fault that it took so long to get back in the Canadian squad but playing in Europe for several years

and not being appreciated by the clubs he played for obviously led to his lack of attention in Canada.

Now he is back in the limelight , I hope he can continue to improve with Saints next season.

I think it was his heroics in the Swedish side that led to Saints signing him.  He was the first Swede

we signed in the early 00's, and led to others following.   At one time we had 5 Swedes in the squad.

I was waiting for the commentator to remind us “they really love a No 9 in Toronto “, but it wasn’t on his list of stereotypes to trot out

Larin is the one player I can enjoy at the WC because he's not going to get poached before the season starts!

Do we have anyone else? Sugawara I guess but don't really consider him ours.

Was well happy to see him score yesterday! Will do his confidence the world of good, although I don't see him as someone particularly short on confidence, and that will only benefit us!

Ross Stewart until the end of June 😀

If that were the case we'd still be able to extend his contract surely. Pretty sure he's a free agent now.

Decent going for him. Hopefully he'll come into the new season with some big flex.

Id have thought if Saints didnt sign him he'd have ended up at another Championship club like Wrexham or West Ham on this showing and partly to last season too.

The dangers always were that after his form in the second half of last season that he'd have a good World Cup and as a result more suitors. However, we got it done early, what a joy.

Quite a few in that boat mate, including me. Good on the lad.

Really hope he continues his form into next season.

Of the course of his Career he's averaged 1 goal every 3 games, so 15-20 next season is well within his wheel house.

Death or glory! Couldn't be more pleased to see him shoving initial reactions in my face. He continues to be superb.

At a time football represented an annoyance, Larin put pen to paper and gave me the first glimpse of something other than spygate. Watching him scoring at the WC has really helped suck me back in. And for that, I'm grateful.

Really looking forward to this guy next season.

Fucking hell just imagine if that was Larin who had his leg snapped. Gotta really feel for Kone, still very young so hopefully he'll come back to football in some form but it really didn't look good.

You taunted him to greatness on the World Stage. Something to be proud of. 🙂

The wisdom of signing up big Cyle before the World Cup is there for all to see.  The more I see of him the more I wonder if Cyrille Regis went on holiday to Ontario Easter 1995.  Proper, natural centre forward is what we have here.

There was a second challenge, not long after the Kone incident. Late, and clumsy. The Canadian players, still a bit shocked after the first incident, just looked at the Qatar players, making it clear what they thought of them.

I like to think the first thing he did when joining in January is logged in here and my sarcasm lit a fire inside him. Every goal scored now is one in the eye for hypochondriac. Just doing my part for the success of SFC.

It's the only explanation. He'll not admit it. But only because that inner rage to prove you wrong still burns inside.

His movement was constant throughout the game, always making runs off the ball, moving out wide or dropping deeper to offer a pass, calling for the ball, attacking the post etc. He's a "poacher" in that regard - never stopped moving or reacting. Frustratingly though, the Canada players seemed to be at pains not to pass to him... that and the quality of their wide players leaves much to be desired re crossing ability and picking a pass... they just attach the box with a lot of numbers and its falling for them in what is a very low quality group. All in all, pleased for Larin, but also frustrated with him as he really should have been getting more chances and more goals...

You weren't alone... My first post on here having initially been raging at us selling AA for £7M (which i think did impact people's views on larin unfairly)... I would say he's done about as well as anyone could possibly expect for the outlay involved, and he's certainly surpassed the "no expectation other than for him to be shit" bar 😄🤣. I do think he struggles against better defenses / more physical center backs, and he doesn't quite have the footballing intelligence that Stewart offered imho, but then he's an absolute menace in and around the box at championship level - and thats all we need.

On 03/02/2026 at 09:50, Saint86 said:

I've calmed.

Plus sides, he is a big physical centre forward that will provide competition/depth for that role. His highlights reals do show there is a player in there who can be a menace and finish in and around the box, and that he'll get in the right positions - we've just got to get him firing and confident somehow. He is going to have Azaz, Fellows, and Scienza feeding him and playing off him - and they are 3 very good players for this level. So he should occupy defences and he will get service (i am prepared to accept that i may be reaching here).... But ultimately, he'll want to do well to get into the world cup team for Canada, a lot of championship defences are pretty damn poor, and this guy is joining with absolutely no expectation other than for him to be shit - so he can't really disappoint at least (silver lining).

I too am overjoyed at this signing, possibly the most ecstatic I've been over a January striker signing since Carillo.

Yes, can't wait to see the Canadian Carillo firing them in against Watford on Saturday.

It's almost as if he had a poor reputation because of his mediocre record before he joined us.... Let's give crystal balls to all Saintswebbers, I say, so that we can all appear wise after the event in future.... It's simply not fair that we only have a small clutch of smart arses on here hogging all the limelight... ;)

P.s. talking of being a good judge of a footballer's potential... ;)
