Pwoite Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I thought Dragan had said we didn’t need to sell to balance the books. Of course, this might be talking up the situation, hiding the truth, or it could be fact. Where did the £60m to balance the books come from? Somewhere between those two extremes we have banked around £9m for Armstrong, and reduced the payroll by £6m for releasing Aribo, Smallbone and McCarthy, plus others. Add in Ramsdale and Sugawara, maybe another £20m. Anything else to add in? That takes us to £35m against the cost and contracts for Latin and Peretz. Add in Charles, and exceed the £60m, so have either hit the break even, or have a sizeable war chest. 1 1

goodymatt Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Just now, hypochondriac said: Report I read was that he needed to accept it Got a link, that’s the first time I’ve heard that? Contract extensions are normally automatic, unless there’s a timeframe missed like Stewart situation.
VectisSaint Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) 57 minutes ago, hypochondriac said: Also the fact he's in the last year of his contract. Like you say it's the highest we could realistically get. We have an option to extend for another year, not clear whether that has been exercised. https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/25691250.southampton-fc-option-extend-shea-charles-contract/ Edited 6 hours ago by VectisSaint Added link 1

Scoobysaint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) No idea if this is a legit source or not. Edited 5 hours ago by Scoobysaint Apologies, just spotted this was from yesterday.

Saint Mikey Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 56 minutes ago, OldNick said: Sorry no lol, I think its Jordan James Jordan James is an interesting shout. Had a very good season last year in a terrible Leicester team. 34 apps, 11 goals. According to Wiki they had agreed a €5 million option to buy, but the player isn't going to play in League One. So you'd think he would be available for sub-£10m given that he had a good season. I'm sure we've looked at him, as it's a pretty obvious one. But maybe Dan Neil is the type of midfielder we want and the finances work better. Maybe we'd move if we lost another midfielder like Jander. Or, maybe he's destined for West Ham like any decent Championship player, it seems! 2
hypochondriac Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I saw Blackmore suggested the other day that we should look to get Liam Delap on loan. Is that in any way realistic? Delap and Larin would be ridiculously good Championship attacking options. 1

Would people be happy with that? I think we have to cut our cloth and sell people. If the sales were Charles, THB and Jander (along with archer and bbd) you'd think we could make at least 80 million from that lot. we then manage to keep Downes, Scienza and Azaz I could probably live with that. Peretz Bree/Roeslev Stephens/quarshie new signing/Wood Manning/Wellington Fellows/Matsuki Downes/Neil Jwp/Bragg Scienza/Edozie Azaz/new signing Larin/ new signing Assuming the players we sign are solid you'd have to say that's a pretty decent championship team. Maybe three signings after Neil. Maybe 15-20 million for those? 60 million profit is about what we were told we needed right? Let's forget the initials JWP and move on. 1

At Town he never really got up to speed, didn’t play a huge amount and was short on matches having not played a lot in the Prem but having captained Sunderland so young is likely a good influence on a team. He’d be good alongside Neil Danns as it would confuse opponents He was fine – had a decent start but was off the pace due to lack of game time Imagine that he'd have done well if he'd been with us from the summer, so probably a good signing for you Will be good in a full season. He came to us after not being used for half a season and was mostly cover/competition. Another year experience. He’s still young enough to learn and he did great for Sunderland. Did not let us down and did the job expected of him He controls the midfield. I preferred him sitting back as a 6 but he can also play as an 8. Still very young and has lots to offer. Gives it his all and he is very professional. I wanted him to play this season, and still think he could do the job in the premier league. Would be a great signing for Rangers. IMHO Great player. Great person. At Sunderland since he was a kid and was there final wkd as a supporter watching us get into Europe. Played under some of the worst excuses for ‘managers’ that exist in football ‘Liar’ Beale and Phil ‘Pookinson’ Helped the club out of league 1 to Prem an absolute class act and great addition to any club. I do love people who think that a player is 'guaranteed' to 'improve' because they're young. Or words to that effect. Some might, e.g. Fernandes, but he was clearly very good even from his youtube videos. Even with TE at the helm. How many players do 'improve' dramatically and how many erase all the failings from their game e.g. poor first touch, needs too long on the ball, doesn't find the right areas in front of goal, is Che Adams, etc?

sadoldgit Posted 47 minutes ago Posted 47 minutes ago How many times have we been linked with Liam Delap over the years? How many times has he gone somewhere else and failed to make the grade? 1

He didn’t smash them in for Hull but looked okay and it was a development loan. Are you implying you wouldn’t have him at saints if offered?! 1
