I wouldn't say it is much more likely. I can't see us spending they amount purely to replace fringe players

Not fringe players, finishers rather than starters. 😉

Not sure we have the available finances for that luxury. I'd be delighted if he doesn't replace one of the players we'd rather not lose.

100% agree. Scienza is very good. Will be surprised if we manage to keep him.

I’m not sure a Premier League club will pay the money we would want for a 28 year old who has never played at that level before.
We’ll see over the next 6-7 weeks I guess.

Okay I've sent my Scouts out on  mission to replace Ross Stewart.

Here are the best deals.

1. Yousef Salech

14 goals | 1.95m | Estimated cost: £8–12m

A Championship-ready focal point who wins aerial battles, presses defenders and can also run the channels.

2. Karol Czubak

18 goals | 1.93m | Estimated cost: £3–4.5m

A powerful penalty-box striker and excellent aerial target who represents the best value on the lis

3. Jesús “Chuchu” Ramírez

18 goals | 1.87m | Estimated cost: £3–5m

A strong, left-footed finisher who has proven he can score regularly in the Portuguese top flight.

4. Tomáš Bobček

20 goals | 1.87m | Estimated cost: £7–10m

A mobile modern target man who scores, creates chances, presses and retains considerable resale value.

5. Marko Milovanović

9 goals | 1.96m | Estimated cost: £3–5m

A huge but surprisingly mobile 22-year-old with the physicality and potential to develop into a top Championship striker.

6. Luca Schuler

8 goals | 1.90m | Estimated cost: £1–2.5m

A relatively cheap 2. Bundesliga option who wins aerial duels and would provide an effective physical presence.

7. Philipp Hofmann

12 goals | 1.95m | Estimated cost: £1–2m

An experienced target man who can hold up possession, dominate in the air and help Southampton challenge for promotion immediately.

Noel Futkeu

19 goals | 1.83m | Estimated cost: £5–8m

A quick, mobile goalscorer with excellent movement, although he is more of a runner and finisher than a genuine target man.

Have we actually looked at any of the above?

Could this be the new Ross replacement?

Have not seen any transfer rumors about Ross new destination.

Is he definitely not playing for Saints again? Does he want to be at SFC? Would we offer a new contract?

Robbie Ure ..this fella looks like the real thing. His club Sirius are having a good season - thanks to Ure's goal tally.

They play to his strength and he is almost scoring for fun. Someone is sure to pick him up soon.

Two names mentioned on here before.

Futkeu - the description there seems too much like Dobbin so can’t see that happening.

Bobcek - looks impressive but only seen mentioned by posters on SF, not  by any other - even unreliable- source.

The top end of the Swedish Prem. is about equal to the average Championship side.

we could ..and probably will ..do worse.

Good update from Blackmore about Scienza probably not going this summer. THB and Charles seem like they will both go though. Maybe the team will end up like this:

Peretz

Bree new cb Stephens Manning

Fellows Downes Bragg Scienza

Azaz/Dobbin

Larin/new striker

Depending on who the cb and striker are that would be pretty strong.

In my opinion he will go. Hopefully not though.

Yes, I'm worried that Jander will move on to.   If he does, and Charles goes , we need a replacement of similar quality.  I'm not convinced Bragg is ready to be a first choice alongside Downes.

Why would we try and sell the back bone of our team in THB, Jander & Charles.

I say Charles can go for silly money while we build on from last season by keeping the rest.

We need two good players in each position.

Long/Peretz

Bree/Rossy

Manning/Wellington

Stephens/Wood

THB/Quarsie

Downes/Olly

Jander/Bragg

Scienza/Edozie

Fellows/Matsuki

Azaz/Dobbin

Larin/?  (Not Downs as he’s not good enough.

Anyone else not mentioned would be a youth player stepping up into the first team.

That leaves many to be offloaded including Ramsdale/Archer and others I might of forgotten.

I may even question if Edozie and Robinson might not be good enough if they can bring in better than those for  a good price.

Wingers are positions where we need 3 players per side - we typically use 2 players per game because of the work that they do so if an injury comes along or someone needs a break having a 3rd player is essential. I can't see us letting either go without a replacement.

Tend to agree. Yes, Leo can be exciting to watch but how many of his runs end up in goals or shots on target (either by him or someone he's passed to)? He tends to cut in and aim for the far corner of the goal. When it works, it's brilliant to watch but, more often than not, it's either cut out by a defender or goes sailing beyond the goal.

I like him. I'd rather have him in the team than not. But I'm not blind to his limitations and, obviously,  real experts who scout for Premier League teams will see these too.

FWIW his decision making in key attacking moments is good IMO. But he makes quite a few poor decisions in less pressured moments that might prove really costly against PL opposition. He’d be useful in the PL no doubt, and has enough to worry the best defenders, but I don’t see anybody  except perhaps the bottom few taking him on as a first choice option .

Agree with you about squad depth, and a later post suggesting three contenders on wings. Need to be well stocked in MF as well as that really is Tonda’s engine room.

But you can’t list the requirement for good players, then one of the first names is Long. Another questionable one for me is Quarshie, and no one knows if Roerslev is up to it.

CF and second choice GK are the critical ones for me, before any others leave and need to be replaced

There is nothing wrong with Long as a second keeper.

If Peretz got injured then I’m sure we will reach out for a loan option.

Quarshie probably needed a season to settle in, just maybe he could be a good understudy for Stephen’s, Wood and THB.

It’s probably true that you need more options on the wing as those players often get chopped down and injured more. Sesay is pretty good as a 3rd option on the left with Edozie and Scienza.

The Matsuki and Fellows flank could probably do with another no nonsense get to the bar line type of player.

On what grounds could we seek an emergency loan if Peretz was injured ? I don’t think the “our second choice is shit” would constitute an emergency as far as the league are concerned.

Do other teams scout football forums to look for potential signings? If so, putting off potential suitors seem like a good idea 😉

Neither does signing the other GK really. Granted he's only 19 but he's currently Italy's U21 GK and you'd assume that means they have high hopes for him

We had high hopes for Bazunu when he signed, and we know how that's gone.
