I'm warming to the idea of Jebbison it's a bonus he has played alongside Dobbin so element of familiarity could bed him in quicker.

Yeah great lets sign the strikers of a team that finished 14th last season. Like when we signed the strikers of a team who finished bottom of the premier league, remind me how that went.

Ambition at its finest.

Settling for average. 😅

We bought Dobbin from the same team and he has looked very good. The fact they finished 14th doesn't mean that they don't have any players worth buying.

I agree. We should not be signing strikers from the team that finished 14th in the Championship.

Wish we'd got Ballard or Tolaj though. Fingers crossed for Salech! ASPIRASHUNS!  😉

Didn't we buy Dobbin from Villa?

On loan at Prestos where him and Jabberwookie scored a massive 16 goals between them 🤦

Aston Villa weren't 14th 😉

When it comes to some of the players we’ve loaned out, like BBD and even Sugawara, it’s important to bear in mind the “X-Factor” – Tonda.

They were both loaned out at the end of August, and Bree at the start of September. Tonda became interim manager on November 2, and things immediately started to change for the better because he was getting much more out of the same players – like Downes, THB, Manning and – when we brought him back - Bree. Fellows was released from the constraints of playing wingback, and he started to show more. Larin arrived and brought far more than he’d produced elsewhere in the previous two seasons. Same players but much better utilization, man management, and smart substitutions started getting a lot more out of them.

I was seriously underwhelmed when we signed BBD for the PL because he’s too limited to succeed at that level. He’s a physical presence up front, which is an important element of our style – he’s not a winger. If they think Tonda can get a Championship tune out of him, in a role he can play, I’m okay with keeping him.

Perhaps the other players supporting them weren't good enough to help them score more...🤔🤔🤔

Perhaps ours are....🤔🤔🤔

I know, but he wasnt playing for Aston Villa.

My point was that he played  for Preston last season albeit on loan. Their position in the league shouldn't mean we shouldn't be interested in players that played for them.

We bought one of our best strikers of all time from Bristol Rovers, after they finished  mid-table in League 1.

He'd had a few seasons of demonstrating his goal scoring pedigree though, not a season on loan with only a handful of goals.

Can never tell if this is tongue in cheek or not.

But if it’s not I politely disagree with your sentiment. Both loans, both young and both championship ready.

Yeah, but people said we bought him from Preston, which we didn't.

We signed Billy Sharp from Doncaster, who finished bottom of the league. If he’s the right player for us, I couldn’t give a hoot.

Similar to Lambert, a proven goal scorer over several seasons, often in struggling sides. And his manager knew him from a previous club.

Quite different from a few goals whilst on loan.

Similar player from what I’ve seen I’d be happy with either. Think Jebbison ceiling is higher. Bournemouth aren’t getting many parts of their recruitment wrong currently.

Why are they letting him go then?

Especially if they can offload their cast-offs on us.

Cos they have money to bring in better, proven players. Take a look at their recruitment. They can only have so many in their squad.

Both good points and if we're looking at players from premier league clubs then we should only be targeting the players they want to keep.  If they're not 1st team players then it's probably not worth bothering with.

How many premier league players, who their clubs want to keep and are active first team players, are going to want to take a pay cut and play at a lower level?

Could have picked up Cenk Tosun on a free if we'd acted earlier.

There are still some good ones to be found, Lavia, Charles and THB for example for us. Perhaps Middlesbrough have found a few this season as well.

But need to avoid the Larios, Bazunus, and Gunns.

What about the legendary Colin Kazim-Richards.....

Would they not be classed as castoffs then?

The original comment was "if we're looking at players from premier league clubs then we should only be targeting the players they want to keep.  If they're not 1st team players then it's probably not worth bothering with."

Lavia, Charles and THB had only played 1 game for Man City between them when we signed them, Middlesbrough have signed Vitek, 0 appearances for Utd, Lankshear, 3 Appearances for Tottenham, Sarmiento, 15 Appearances for Brighton over 3 seasons.

I'd not count any of them as First Team players at that point in their careers.

Signing promising up and coming players, is very different to signing 1st team players that clubs want to keep, was my point 🙂

I agree with your examples BTW, and I think there's plenty of other examples of players signed before making a premier league appearance that have gone on to be exceptional, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rodgers, 2 very high profile examples

It was sarcasm to illustrate that very point.  If we're shopping at premier league clubs then obviously it'll be for players not deemed good enough for the 1st team. Or cast offs in Badgers language.

Yes, but there is a difference between those that can’t find a way through to the first team at say Man City, and Chelsea (and that can be hit and miss) and being eased out of Bournemouth or Ipswich for example.

Gotta be honest that definition seems a bit vague and woolly to me.  Maybe you could give us a definitive list of the clubs that's acceptable to buy from and not be considered a cast-off?  Is Dobbin a cast off?

Someone on the Not606 Forum saying that Spors told fans in the bar after the Forum last night that we are close to signing a striker, hopefully before Watford. Not Vipotnik.
