I mentioned his xG recently and wouldn’t say it’s great but at Preston he scored roughly equivalent to what was expected which isn’t too bad in a side that didn’t actually create much. Is Dobbins the only new player this summer? Not counting players on loan last season.

So far yes but then of the regular team last season only Stewart and soon to be Charles have left.

Fair. I was just thinking that if six goals is “par” for Jebbison last season then either Preston created a ridiculously low number of chances for him or he wasn’t in positions to score. Azon, by contrast, seems to have had plenty of chances but was a poor finisher. Now, clearly Ipswich were a better side than Preston, so maybe that’s to be expected but I thought I’d read somewhere that Ipswich fans thought his movement and positioning were great but that his finishing needed improvement. That’s why I was more excited by Azon than I am by Jebbison. Agree every striker that we could get is a gamble but, if we are going for Autos, I’d be surprised if the best we can do is a striker like Jebbison who, whilst still very young, has quite a poor record of scoring goals at this level.

With West Ham and Wolves in our league then I feel we should be pushing with more quality Dobbin type signings.

Im praying our new striker is the new bees knees otherwise it’s back to the likes of Adams, Armstrong, Downs, Mara, BBD and the lanky shit player that went to Turkey.

We got promoted three years ago with 5'10" Che Adams leading the line and Sekou Mara as backup. In the worst case scenario Larin as a focal point with BBD as backup is at least equal, I would say better. Especially with goals to be expected from Azaz, Dobbin and Scienza.

This squad is comfortably good enough for automatic promotion, our only problem would be if someone like Leo or THB was sold, or both Charles and Jander.

Complacency. 

Saints were not good enough for automatic last year and start on minus four this year with much stronger new competitor opponents in wolves and West Ham especially. 

My expectation is another tough long season in which we struggle but make play offs. Then we should be favourites. 

The sense of injustice that we hope may inspire the players every match is going to be useful but most of all at the end of the season in crunch matches. 
 

Inbetween I reckon many teams will use the result v us as a benchmark - and raise their game - they know we could have been in EPL instead of Hull. Not one easy game this year starting with Colchester.

We weren't in the first half of last season, we were in the second half with Bree back and Larin and Peretz brought in. We have the same team that finished last season currently. Ergo we are good enough for autos. Any sales from here on out may alter that, and yes the League is stronger, but we're still in good shape. Currently.

I think you’re underestimating the quality of the teams that came down. Leeds and Leicester were decent but West Ham with Bowen and £100m of transfer fees to strengthen and Wolves with Jiminez who was causing high class opposition problems at the WC is a different gravy. If we really expect to keep up with them, when we are already 4 points behind, with Larin as a starter and BBD backing him up then we are going to be disappointed. My view is we need a starting quality striker to rotate with Larin to have a realistic shot of dislodging either WH or Wolves.

Selective noise. For the last 25 games we won the league, 1 point more than Cov I belive (67-66).

This clearly indicates the potential to win this league. 

As always players in/players out will have a major say. So far, we are winning in my opinion, although a striker is necessary. 

Charles going and being replaced is needed but not as key as Bragg is a better player. 

As it stands we will certainly be top 4. With a decent striker we may well win the league regardless of the relegated teams persona.

We're also going to have a massive hole in midfield when Charles leaves that needs filling to hope to compete.
