Willo of Whiteley Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Saying BBD and Downs are close to moving on isn’t really news. It’s just a given that will happen. I can see Ramsdale being lined again, which would be a bit silly, just cut the losses and take what money you can now.
SNSUN Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago 3 hours ago, Matthew Le God said: Smoke and mirrors. Smacks of Villa playing the "We're moving on from THB" card in the media when they want to unsettle him some more to get their deal. I hope we hold out for the right money, even though I do think he'll go this window. 3 hours ago, captainchris said: You think we let Jander AND Charles go lol …. That would clearly be madness…. We already have four goalies and you want another one! Been said, but the club don't want Ramsdale on big wages (sadly as him and Peretz would be a Premier League quality set of keepers) and Baz is, well, Baz. Shite. George Long HAS to be 3rd choice. We need better for a second keeper. 3 hours ago, hypochondriac said: It's not about what I want, it's what I think will happen. Ramsdale and Bazunu will be off either sold or on loan so we will need a third keeper. Probably a youngster. Youngish. Whichever keeper we bring in had to be better than Long, I don't care how old he is. Imagine Peretz out for the season and Long becomes our first choice. Goodbye promotion. 3 hours ago, Matthew Le God said: A lot of clubs opt for the opposite and go for a veteran as 3rd choice. Long is the veteran. We need better. 1 hour ago, hypochondriac said: Interesting cheers. Not cb? And rw I know we've been linked with a couple there but wouldn't that push Matsuki and Fellows down the pecking order? I like Matsuki, I don't like Fellows particularly, both are ok for the Championship but I think they can be improved upon. Mind you I also think that of both our FB positions. And CB. But that's just me being greedy. 1 hour ago, washsaint said: BBC reporting that Villa have moved on from THB and that the two clubs valuations are too far apart. Interesting if true. See above, IMO they'll be back. Of the two clubs that want him (so far), Villa have money. If we hold our urine until deadline day or close to it, they'll cave BUT we do need to bring in a replacement almost before he goes. That's why I think we'll sell in the next few days for slightly less, to give us a chance to get in a decent replacement. However this is SR we're talking about and they have never done things the sensible way. 1 hour ago, SuperSAINT said: Feels like another loan move. Yep but that'll do. Nobody seems to want him on a permanent, loan fee and wages off the bill will do. 1 hour ago, Disco Stu said: Villa will come back at the eleventh hour. Agree. We just need time for the replacement. Apologies for lots of quotes. On holiday and the 19 Crimes red wine is flowing. 2

Actually, maybe Valenciennes is more BBD's level. (No offence meant @ChristopheVAFC ) 😛 Funny you mention that—I was just thinking Southampton hadn't loaned us any players yet this summer, haha. After Dierrick Abu and Rento Takaoka, I certainly wouldn't say no to another loan from you guys I know VA is looking for a striker before the window closes; since Charles Abi and Gaetan Courtet aren't exactly firing on all cylinders right now, I think BBD could help us put the ball in the net, haha. 3

The player has to want the move too. Not straightforward if you have a family.

suewhistle Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Quarshie definitely needs to play. He's got the basic pace for a higher level but still not comfortable enough on (or off!) the ball. Paderborn are now in the Bundesliga, aren't they, so he'll be playing against a good standard?

Came third and went up via the play off. They have quite a lot of centre backs on their books (6), but play three at the back, so perhaps need them (they had two CBs on their bench on the playoff final for example). They signed one of those six CBs this summer and another is a returning loanee. No idea where he would figure in the pecking order or if he would be a starter.
Chez Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 39 minutes ago, Lee On Solent Saint said: Decent move for the lad. Assume we would need to bring in two CB's if him and THB end up going? There seems to be zero trust in him from Tonda, so it will be a good opportunity for us to 'try again' to get someone he feels happy to play. With THB potentially departing, that might work in our favour too as any young prospect might fancy his chances of getting starts. That will help us get a better calibre of loanee too.

No denying he has all the physical attributes required to be a decent defender. No lack of pace etc. However, he does look very uncomfortable in possession.

There was a video of a full Greuther Fürth game that some watched and it was obvious he wasn't a ball player. But the club wasn't looking for one. Or at least the scouts weren't. The attributes they required were clear: big, tall, powerful, fast young centre back. Ball skills were not on the list. However, as much as we like to say we want defenders that can defend, at this level you simply have to be able to play if you want to get in a side like ours.
