What a result, what a game. Still can’t believe we held out that entire second half. How we could have done with another big man up top to hold then line when Larin went off. Stuff of legend that result will be, holding out for a win with ten men for the best part of an hour against the filth.

Special mention to the skate fans in the ground today who were absolutely shite, just like last season. Another portsMYTH shattered about their non stop raucous support even when losing.

Yep. They even had the cheek to sing football in a library!

Bragging rights for a few months but (for me) even more importantly it's another 3 points on the board. We needed this to stay in contact with the leading pack.

Portsmouth was always going to be awkward - I'm just glad we got it over the line.

Which chances?

Not sure they mustered up one clear chance if we're honest. A few promising situations and lots of shots from in and around the box but all way off target.

It was as comfortable as you're likely to get playing with 10 men.

Jesus they were fucking diabolical weren’t they. The second half felt horrendous in the ground, but in hindsight, they were embarrassing.

I thought their left winger was pretty dangerous in the 1st half. Yet, their manager took him off.

Must have been done or carrying a knock

I couldn't hear the Pompey fans. I know the acoustics at St Mary's are bad, but I could only hear the home fans from where I was in Block 4.

Having watched the game a few observations:
Pompey were poor at 0-0, 1-0 and after the sending off. If this was any other team I think we’d have battered them.

Bragg knew straight away he was getting that second yellow, you saw his reaction as soon as the Pompey player went down. Stupid to do but forgotten now because of the win.

I’m surprised he was playing from the start, Stephens I get to a point because of his experience. Tonda said post match on Sky that he wanted players that knew what a derby felt like - very ridiculous to play the player that has never featured in one and leave out Matsuki who has featured in a few. He should’ve started.

Larin needs to learn to shut up and stop getting stupid yellows.

Meghoma was shot at defending four years ago and is still shit now.

Fans and the noise made was phenomenal.

Bree’s “fuuuuuuck offff” celebrating his goal to Pompey fans was amazing.

Hampshire is red! 😄

Without the points deduction, we'd be above West Ham now.

They should have done a lot better with the free header that Peretz saved comfortably immediately after the sending off, but that was the only real save he had to make. They had no composure and no quality in the final third. They looked like a League One team.

Fantastic result, great day and the city will be on cloud nine this week. For me having us in the same league is imperative. These are the games I want to see - Bolton next week just won’t be the same.

On a side note I’ve had messages from my mates in the group chat for months in regards to Spygate.
I get them when Saints lose or in the build up to a play off game or whatever - and I never bite.

Apparently I’m taking it too far today by simply posting one GIF of Ward-Prowse celebrating.

Seems so, that’s what BBC are saying.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/ckr5ym1lv6qmt

Southampton battled to beat Portsmouth in the Championship and win their first league match against the Blues in nearly 22 years.

Google AI says: Southampton defeated Portsmouth 1–0 in the EFL Championship at St Mary's Stadium on October 11, 2026, marking Southampton's first league win over Portsmouth in 22 years and the first league victory for either side in the fixture in 21 years.

The BBC only picked out the pro-Pompey stats. They don't mention that Saints are undefeated home and away against Pompey in all competitions for 16 years.

The number of Pompey wins in history doesn't even reach double figures:

Couldnt really hear them on Telly, couple of play up pompeys but most of the time when the camera was on them they were stood in silence with anxious faces, quite the opposite of what they purport to be

Just got back from a week away and sat through a recording without knowing the score. Happy days!

Fortunately Portsmouth were awful going forward. Fortunately too Azaz didn’t get sent off, he would have been in the EPL.

Bragg miscontrolled the ball twice, gave the ball away twice, gave two stupid fouls away and put his side in a very difficult position. Hopefully he will learn his lesson.

Another 3 points in the bag though so all’s well.

The win today flips those draws in our favour to a certain extent. ‘Unbeaten in 5’ against them is a lot better sounding than anything Pompey can say now.

They were church mice throughout, and if we’d had 11 men we would have been out of sight at 60mins. Nice touch the media team playing ‘don’t look back in anger’ as they had the piss taken out of them on two sides ten minutes after the final whistle. A sea of sad faces as they boarded the sunshine coaches :(

They always are. I’ve always thought their support at our place has been average at best. That goes for at the Dell as well.

Pompey were so bad in attack that Peretz didn’t need to make spectacular saves but I was impressed as usual by his commanding overall performance

If they don't fix their attacking gig on a consistent basis, they will do very well to stay up

Terrible. Their manager probably wants out also.

He had no choice for the first one. That throw in from Manning was a real hospital pass.

Unfortunately he's got no-one to blame but himself for the second one. It was a stupid, instinctive thing to do and he knew instantly he was off. But that's another reason to be so grateful we held in to win because I shudder to think how gutted he would feel if we hadn't.

Surprised he’s still there to be honest, could do well at a bigger club.

That wasn't an easy watch, but these games never are really. I still have nightmares of last seasons drab 0-0, that was bad.

This was slightly better as a game, but not hugely better. I thought we had the better players for the moments, which isn't a surprise really. When you have players in the side like Azaz, Larin, Leo etc you only need 'moments' - and that can often be enough. The pass from Azaz to Bree was majestic, but his pass to Leo at the start of the second half was even more ridiculous - he was on it today.

I thought this was a game which suited Stephens when we went down to 10 men. I wouldn't say we were 'backs to the wall' at any point, as they were pretty pathetic in their attacking efforts, but Stephens had a clear job and didn't wander around, give away the ball or lose concentration as he so often does. He just focused on defending, blocking and winning the ball - these sort of dirty/gritty games are where he's more useful.

Downes was up there with Azaz in terms of influence I felt, harrying, hustling, pressing, winning the ball back. He was everywhere and well up for it.

I often forgot we were down to 10 men because we held such a good shape in that 2nd half, very hard to play through - even more so when Matsuki came on. I think that was the right change, as Leo was leaving a lot of space - but Matsuki was more disciplined in the sort of game this was.

Overall It wasn't great, but who gives a shit? We won it, that's all everyone remembers years down the line. I thought their 'efforts' after we went down to 10 men were laughable, huff and puff to a point - but their lack of quality was fortunate for us!

Good to be back with proper football again and a great start to this next lot of games. Need to sort the away form out next at a tricky place to go.

Everybody hates us, from the has been bags of wind who spout nonsense for money (pond tits I believe they're called) to the co-commentator on sky to the manager of Cambridge (who ?)

This can be, and should be our super strength this season, management, players and fans.  We take on all and fear noone.

They also don’t mention that it’s hard to beat in a team in the league if they’ve spent the majority of that last 22 years in a lower division than us. Sometimes 3 divisions lower.

I mentioned similar in the build up thread how these articles are a portsMYTH in themselves when only looked at face value.

To be fair, the first was a 'hospital throw' from Manning, who went on to make 2 or 3 errors that could have been costly against a half competent opponent. Some of the comments on here after Bragg was sent off were bloody ridiculous. He was actually doing pretty well (others will disagree).

I know everyone will feel sorry for Cam Bragg and point out how gutted he was. But he made two bad mistakes in critical areas of the pitch and then an utterly unforgivable brain fade where he forgot he was on a yellow. Has to learn VERY fast. From a routine game where we were in control it turned into torture. All because of his very poor judgment and inexperience. With Downes, Jander and JWP there is no way he should be first choice. Sorry to be harsh, but we need all the points we can get. Rank amateur brain fades can't happen.

I do entirely disagree.

The ball was getting caught under his feet, passes not connecting and got caught in possession a few times. He was the weakest player on the pitch. Expected him to be withdrawn at HT.

To make a professional foul while you are on a yellow is an unforgivable lack of concentration. Mistakes will happen, but to pull the bloke back - what was he thinking?

They really have a lack of quality up top and that’s what bit them in the bum in the end. 45 mins against ten men and no chances created. We have Larin, scienza and azaz they don’t appear to have much at all

The second yellow was his own doing completely. Spend ages on the ball and then got caught. He should have moved it quicker. The first yellow was a poor first touch from him in my view. Both yellow card situations were created by Bragg himself. I like him as a technical midfielder but as that type of player he can’t be making mistakes like that as it is his bread and butter

Such an odd fanbase, genuine pondlife and with the combined menace of the inbred spawn of the Wealdstone Raider and Charles Hawtrey. Glad my nipper saw them fucked over alongside me today.
