Why was he booed? He never wanted to leave Saints

I do wonder if some Saints Fans have any memories at all.

I had a drink with Brett and his Missis in Dock Gate 4 the day he was sold.H e never wanted to leaveand was happy to stay and fight for the team.I think he would have ****ed all over **** macgoal drought.

Sad that he was booed. I don't see any reason why it was warranted. He always seemed an honest lad, always gave his best, although he didn't really set the world on fire at the level we used to be. He'd have been a lot more effective if he was still with us now, such has been our decline.

Brett gave his all for us. He didn't score a lot of goals but he did bag a few memorable ones such as the winner in the FA Cup semi-final 2003. Those booing him are prats.

Aye - amazing how short some peoples memories are isn't it - mind you, memory is a function of the brain is it not - perhaps that explains it. ;)

Sad that it happened though...

But to put it in perspective, at the end of the game he came over and applauded us, and was applauded in return. As ever, a minority of ignorant people spoil our reputation for fairness.

Good to hear. He won't mind getting stick from us during the game & clearly knows from the reception at the end that he'll always be well thought of by Saints fans

disgraceful if true........people have short memories, his work rate was second to none, his assists were pretty good and what about his goal in the semi final against watford......................we have got some ****ing idiots at this club and sometimes i cringe at our support,no wonder we cant attract any investment.

Thats a shame - I never like the way we slag ex Saints players. Especially someone like Brett. What a shame.

Agree 100% Robbie.

Players often want away and afterwards they incur the anger of fans when we play their new side, and rightly so ; ( Kevin Phillips, example). but players like Brett (who apparantly didn't want to go in the first place) get a raw deal. He clearly wasn't Prem.quality a lot of the time, but his honest hard-working input and selfless service helped make James Beattie's career brighter than it might have been.

Sometimes it's a case of the club making the decision on financial grounds but quite a lot of the players we've "dumped " in recent years would have been pleased to stay I'm sure had it not been that we needed to reduce the wage bill. Sadly, some (Saints) fans boo ANY former player regardless of their personal history. I think Brett deserved some better respect - even if he was playing for the other side !

we embaress ourselves time after time. On the one hand we allow ex skates like Routledge to avoid any stick whatsoever then we get mugs abusing a player that will down in Saints folklore for scoring in the semi.

More than Ormerod.

Wonder if the ego on legs will ever reach 107 league goals (ok, some were for Accrington Stanley before they rejoined the League) - another 80 to go, maybe he will.

Given Brett's horrendous injuries over the years thats not a bad tally for someone who is crap. Made a lot of goals for Beatts when he was with us, even if he didn't score many himself.

I see he is quoted on wiki (from the BBC) as saying "I had some of the best years of my career at Southampton. Its a big club with great supporters."

Pity some "supporters" don't have the grace to at least acknowledge his contribution

No idea why you brought all that up. I never said Ormerod was crap, nor would I have given him stick was I there. I was merely pointing out that McGoldrick has scored far more goals than him this season.

Was quite a good one yesterday as well.

McGoldrick is twice the player Ormerod is/was. Ormerod is a fantastic bloke, great energy and a vital part off our best team for years but his ability actually was pretty non existant whereas McGoldrick actually has some.

Not every striker has to be like Ormerod and run round like a headless chicken. Not every striker who doesn't run round like a headless chicken has a massive ego.

I despise people who say things like that which is clearly a judgement of someone they don't know. Just look past your hatred of him, accept that McGoldrick is what he is and when you look at it is actually a talented player, whose our top goal scorer, and has looked alot better lately since he's got some support upfront.

Had some people shouting about how ugly he was during the game and comments about Kev's wife but was applauded off when he was subbed and then at the end when he came over. He said that we were a superb club with superb fans in the progamme and that we should be back in the premier league where he spent the best years of his career with us. If anyone did boo then they were definitely in the minority and were not real saints fans.

The only players that deserve stick are the ones like:

Kevin Phillips

Martin Crainie

Ricardo Fuller

Players like Brett don't deserve any sort of abuse, I suspect these fans wern't supporting us when we had our prem days are are prob 14 year old yooflings.

F*ck me, Fuller is such a horrible man.

92nd minute drop ball anyone? An absolute pr*ck.

When McG plays regulary in the Premiership, when he scores a FA Cup Semi Final goal, then perhaps we can compare him to Ormerod.

Ormerod wasn't quite good enough for the Premiership, but made the most of his limitted talent. McG is CCC at best, but seems to think he's something special.

Anyone who boo'd Brett should be ashamed of themselves. He never wanted to leave, he loved the club, he gave a heart felt speech about how upset he is to see us where we are.

While he was with us he put in 100 times more effort than a good 8-9 of our reguler starters do now. True gent is Bretty. ****ing idiots booing him

Jeesh some of you keyboard warriors really **** me off...it lasted 1 minute for 1 occasion. The rest of the time people were ****ed off with Brett and DJ Campbell diving every time we got within a foot of them nothing to do with being an ex-Saint.

The over reaction on here is pathetic.

totally agree Ron, i must have gone for a pi** when it happen because reading it on here was the first time i even knew about it.

one of the problems of being in the CCC, and crowds dropping, is that more and more posters are basing their opinions on radio commentarys etc than actually witnessing the games

He is probably the laziest, slowest, least motivated player I have seen in a Saints shirt for many a year. He doesn't read the game well, doesn't know how to make space for others or pull other players out of the game. He does occasionally spark into life, but flickers all too briefly.

Must have been a long ****. Where we were sat I heard it on numerous occasions and got more vocal. Disappointing.

This forum is becoming more and more like the letters page of the daily mail.

Ormerod got jeered.

Boo hoo.

It's banter.

It happens at football matches.

Grow up.

Ormerod earns more in a month than most of us earn in a year, I'm sure he can cope.

Oh dear, I don't think I agree with a word of that. McGoldrick at his best for Saints so far hasn't come close to achieving anything like what Ormerod did, and he's nothing like as good a player either - Brett's selfless workrate helped create space for Beattie to score the goals he did, he was a far fitter player than McGoldrick and had more influence on play, he was a handful for opposing defenders, won the ball back in dangerous attacking positions with all his closing down, and was a better finisher than McGoldrick when his job was to score goals not help create them (at Blackpool the first time he was there). Plus he played regularly for Saints in the Premiership, for a team that finished in the top half. McGoldrick WISHES he was half the player Ormerod was for Saints.

Was booed and given plenty of stick by Saints fans today. What was that all about?

Pathetic. Our travelling fans have been terrific, but this was stupid and moronic. Brett has been a loyal servant for Saints and always ran his socks off, scoring some crucial goals too, not least the one that got us to the Cup Final.
