Papa Shango Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Good for him, but I hope the kid doesn't get burnt-out. He could end up playing about 50 games this season. Might not be the worst idea to give him a rest at some point.

forever a red and white Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Was thinking the same. When Lallana comes back, Oxo needs a break. He can't play so many games. He is getting exhausted very quickly in games and N'Guessan looks desperate to play

Dig Dig Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 He is 22 years old. Can have two players in the squad up to 23 I think? Although I may have made that up. Seemed like James Milner was playing for them for years after he was 21!
SuperMikey Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Milner first played for the U21s when he was 16 (I think), he's been around for ages. Can't believe he's still only in his early 20s! Congrats to Alex, great achievement for him. He's definitely talented enough to play at that level, i'm sure he'll do well! Will be nice to have an England international in our first-team
THEVMAN Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Well done but doesn't Lallana deserve another call up soon? I dont think Adam is that bovered about the England scene at the moment more interested in getting Saints promoted, plus it`s a very clicky set up. James Milner was just under 21 when the qualifying campaign started and 23 when the finals were held. Adam Lallana is 22 and thus can't play for them again. I think you may be confusing it with the Olympics where you can have a few over age players.

suewhistle Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 It's a bit too far to drive to Empoli from where I live: about 5 hours and 66€ in tolls. Now if they had played the game at Torino or Vercelli or somewhere a bit closer I'd be there like a shot..

dellgirl Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 Southampton really is going places again Morgan, French under 21's last year and Alex, English under 21's this. Well done Alex enjoy the experience and come home safe.
JRM Posted 2 February, 2011 Share Posted 2 February, 2011 This is better for us, if he had stayed in the U19s he would most likely have been a key player, with the U21s its more likely he'll just get a run out for last 15mins or so.

Very impressive for a 17 year old League One player. It is indeed. fairly obviously he won't be in the start line-up, but most likely come on as a late sub . ..and score the winning goal ! Deppo Posted 5 February, 2011 Share Posted 5 February, 2011 IMHO AOC has been poorer since the hype during the transfer window. He tried to do to much on the ball and shoots from silly places. He could learn something from Hammond today; most noticably how to pass, cross and shoot from long-range with decent accuracy. He has started to believe his own hype and it has made him less of a player.

S-Clarke Posted 5 February, 2011 Share Posted 5 February, 2011 His first half was great, but his 2nd half showed a bit of immaturity about his game and he was getting caught in the wrong positions and doing the wrong things. To be expected though, he's only 17. I'd have subbed him personally on the hour mark when we had our 2 goal cushion back.
ottery st mary Posted 5 February, 2011 Share Posted 5 February, 2011 Congrats to Alex....Personally should be withdrawn.... Too many games and not being subbed or sub coming on. Against both Exeter and Posh he should have been subbed or even the impact sub coming on... Being played too much and in the wrong position in the wrong set up.. beatlesaint Posted 5 February, 2011 Share Posted 5 February, 2011 With our attacking options having been limited with Lallana, Connolly and Guly (ok it was only 1 game) injured and N'gassen and Forte only coming into the building in the past week Adkins would have been crucified on here if he had rested or dropped Alex to the bench. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ? If not on subs bench just a little more obvious thought in all his recent games he has looked heavy legged and ready to be subbed by a Manager who should be up to speed with player management etc.. Was obvious to me at Ex and here at Posh...

As mentioned by NickG above the same thing happened with Bale, who had a poor second half to the season. As soon as Lallana is back Chamberlain should drop to the bench for a while. Agreed but I'm not sure that it will happen. I think AOC's entourage will make a big fuss if he's not maintained in the first team on a constant basis. I don't think he's contributing as much as he was a while back and that it's weakening our side towards the end of games. The Euro 2011 must be a big target for him and not being selected week in,week out would probably be detrimental to that.
