Chamberlain - England Under 21's

Milner first played for the U21s when he was 16 (I think), he's been around for ages. Can't believe he's still only in his early 20s!

Congrats to Alex, great achievement for him. He's definitely talented enough to play at that level, i'm sure he'll do well! Will be nice to have an England international in our first-team :D

Here is the full U21 squad for the game

http://www.thefa.com/England/mens-under-21s/News/match-centre/2011/Italy-England/Match-Previews/England-Squad-Named

on Tuesday 8 February (2pm GMT) for a game which will also be featured live on TheFA.com.

“I also saw Southampton play Manchester United in The FA Cup on Saturday and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is showing a lot of promise so we thought we’d bring him into the squad too.”

Can have two players in the squad up to 23 I think? Although I may have made that up. Seemed like James Milner was playing for them for years after he was 21!

No, you have to be under 21 when the qualifying campaign starts. James Milner was just under 21 when the qualifying campaign started and 23 when the finals were held. Adam Lallana is 22 and thus can't play for them again. I think you may be confusing it with the Olympics where you can have a few over age players.

I didnt think there was a restriction on age for the Olympics, Linford Christie went on for years ;)

IMHO AOC has been poorer since the hype during the transfer window.

He tried to do to much on the ball and shoots from silly places.

He could learn something from Hammond today; most noticably how to pass, cross and shoot from long-range with decent accuracy.

He has started to believe his own hype and it has made him less of a player.

His first half was great, but his 2nd half showed a bit of immaturity about his game and he was getting caught in the wrong positions and doing the wrong things. To be expected though, he's only 17.

I'd have subbed him personally on the hour mark when we had our 2 goal cushion back.

With our attacking options having been limited with Lallana, Connolly and Guly (ok it was only 1 game) injured and N'gassen and Forte only coming into the building in the past week Adkins would have been crucified on here if he had rested or dropped Alex to the bench.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it ?

If not on subs bench just a little more obvious thought in all his recent games he has looked heavy legged and ready to be subbed by a Manager who should be up to speed with player management etc..

Was obvious to me at Ex and here at Posh...

Nothing to do with believing his own hype IMO. More to do with being burnt-out. The kid is in desperate need of a rest. As mentioned by NickG above the same thing happened with Bale, who had a poor second half to the season. As soon as Lallana is back Chamberlain should drop to the bench for a while.

Agreed but I'm not sure that it will happen. I think AOC's entourage will make a big fuss if he's not maintained in the first team

on a constant basis. I don't think he's contributing as much as he was a while back and that it's weakening our side towards the end of games. The Euro 2011 must be a big target for him and not being selected week in,week out would probably be detrimental to that.
