Saints Transfers Thread - Deadline Day

Hasn't worked out at stoke, with Hughes hinting at a sale... I reckon a cut price IMBULA would be a great signing for us. If we can get s big name like Krychowiak or Carvalho, wouldn't be disapointed with this. Big, strong and quality in distribution.

Romeu-IMBULA would make such a difference to Our team and play

Wasn't Imbula linked with us before ? Possibly in 2015.

Since we were linked with him he's failed to settle at both Porto and Stoke. Not sure he's a risk worth taking.

And Stoke. And Palace.

But no doubt we won't make it to mid June before the forum intelligentsia start openly weeping about how, yet again, those three clubs are going to leave us behind. Just like last June. And the one before that.

Shaqiri. They signed Shaqiri etc etc etc.

My favourite was when Norwich 'won' the transfer window....

....

....

then got relegated.

Having looked at the table and fixtures, a Spurs win on Thursday against Leicester would mean a guarenteed top 10 finish for us, as Leicester then play Bournmouth on the last day and if they've lost to Spurs, both couldn't then overtake us.

Don't lose to Utd and beat Stoke should see us finish 8th.

Who would of took that and a cup final at the start of the season

We finished 8th and got to the cup final (bigger cup final) under Strachan and he is held in such high regard

Puel wont be should he leave in a few weeks. WGS got the most put of his squad. Puel really has not

Fa cup was an easier run if I recall.

Still lost both

League cup final losers like Sunderland and Bradford.

Since reaching an EFL cup final seems to be equivalent to winning the champions league for little plucky saints perhaps we can consider one of the other managers with an EFL or FA cup runners up medal?

Phil Parkinson

Gus Poyet

Alan Pardew

Tim Sherwood

Steve Bruce

Roberto Martinez

Tony Pulis

Malky Mackay

Alex McLeish

An elite list of nearly men

Definitely - Very impressive lad. When we thrashed MCFC at home last season, he was their only player who gave us any problems that day.

Can't help but read that piece and think it might be part of a VVD deal. Hope not

I remember thinking that we got lucky with the draw at the time. Saints went through Spurs, Millwall, Norwich and L1 Watford on the way to the final.

It was an easy draw, but Watford weren't League 1, they were Championship.

Another rumor about a Ligue 1 player :

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/3386425/southampton-eye-toulouse-star-christopher-jullien-as-a-replacement-for-skipper-virgil-van-dijk/

Well, he's obviously not as good as VVD, but this guy impressed everybody for his first Ligue 1 season.

He's physically impressive (1.96m, 86kg), he's almost impassable and can score (4 goals in Ligue 1 this season, 9 in Ligue 2 the previous one).

Only 3 central defenders have a better rating than him on whoscored this season in Ligue 1 : Loïc Perrin, Thiago Silva and Paul Baysse (who will leave Nice...).

Seb Haller, who we were linked with in January/the summer, has just signed for Eintracht Frankfurt.

he had another good season at Utretcht

He's got a combination of skills that mean he should be able to take on his form into Germany, IMO.

This says Iheanacho is available permanently for maybe £20m.

If thats true, its equal with £12m for VVD/Alderweireld as an absolute steal!

Ludicrous price for such a talent.

Yep. Would be excellent value for a 20 year old who's a natural finisher.

Could likely finance a lot of that by selling J-Rod.

If true, half of europe will want to buy him, so no chance he'll end up here. Atletico Madrid will need a new striker for a start, and he's absolutely a Dortmund style signing.

If Man City are letting him go and for what is now cheap in the world of ever increasingly mad transfer fees. He will have loads of teams after him probably several that will be far more attractive than saints if we are honest.

Yet bluemoon forum is speculating that a move to a team like Bournemouth would be perfect for his development. Young enough that the only thing he should be prioritising is game time in an environment that isn't too big and where he can become the main man.

We'll if he thinks like that happy days welcome to saints but a lot of young players don't seem to think like that do they? Just look at some of the players who left us young for bigger clubs when arguably regular playing time with saints might have been more beneficial to them in the long run. I guess it will come down to what offers he gets but I doubt he would pick us over say Dortmund.

clueless. He will become a very decent player over the next two seasons.

Would keep Redmond - aren't many young English players around with his attributes. In the right system - say a genuine 4-2-3-1 he'd be very effective, needs to work on his football awareness but hence £11m price.

He also needs to stop b*tching and moaning at everyone else - seemed to spend the whole second half whinging at Targett.
