A replacement with very similar attributes to van Dijk is seemingly on his way...

Liverpool have an annual income 3x that of Southampton, are able to offer £200k p/w wages and Champions League football. Delusional to think a players head wouldn't be turned. It is better for Saints to have players like van Dijk or Mane for two years than not at all. Only a handful of clubs in world football aren't "selling clubs", it is delusional to think Saints will ever be in that elite. Nothing wrong with our position as one of the best clubs for 20 - 25 years olds to join before moving on to some of the richest clubs in the world.

Dress it up all you want, we are the dictionary definition of a "selling club". Most fans can tolerate it for a few years but it's getting tiresome now and will probably end up backfiring on us.

Hope so MLG. We've been linked for quite some time. Some seemingly big competition for him, but we normally ramp up targets when we have an outgoing forthcoming.

I wonder if we will go for another centre-back too?

Posted
I couldn't give a monkeys how much money he's been offered. He signed a 5 year deal and Ralph said we didn't have to sell this Summer.

If that's good enough for you then it's good enough for me.

Posted
I'd rather we kept him but i'm realistic enough to know that he'll probably take the move - would rather it was Barca, Munich or Real though. One injury away from never playing again etc. If we get £60m-£70m we could build an incredible team with that, plus the sales of Jay / Bertrand etc. If we do manage to get Tuchel and he persuades VVD to stay, it will really be party time on the south coast. We'd be in for an incredible season. Make TT an offer he can't refuse Lesley.

We've been after Semedo for two years. That's two years of waiting / sorting a deal, tracking the player. This deal was pretty much done in Jan. Shame we could bring him in then but it wasn't to be. Never boring being a saints fan...

Probably 2 of the most unlikely things ever!

Very similar attributes? I trust youre not basing that on your silly little computer game. How many times have you watched him play?

MLG is a troll. Best to ignore, he would have watched Semedo zero times I guarantee

As for Semedo well the Sporting manager and fans don't seem to rate him much and the 50% sell on clause wont be to LLLs liking. Strikes me as another big gamble and could easily go same way as Hojberg, Ramirez and Boufal

Posted
He's 23 and not been a first team regular in a very average Sporting team. Hardly fills me with confidence.

Is a bit concerning that he isn't a regular. Anyone know what calibre of player he's up against for a starting spot?

Yoshida and Stephens, let's hope he gets-up-to-speed PDQ.

I think he meant tall, coloured and has funky hair....

Nothing like jumping the gun on players we've signed to develop. Now if you'd said Ramirez, Juanmi and Forren...

I know a Sporting fan, apparently Semedo lacks intelligence. He's looking forward to seeing him leave.

Juanmi has done well since leaving us

Show some ambition Saints! Sick of being Liverpool's feeder club. Keep Virgil and sign Semendo / Sahko.

Get that German mush in as gaffer

And march on!

And he did well before joining us. Some younger players just can't settle in a different country to be able to give their best.

If he had been given a chance we might be better placed to judge him. Hardly had a sniff here.

Fair point - can only assume that as with Forren (and Gardos since his injury) that he wasn't showing enough to justify a place to begin with. Would have been interesting to see if he'd got more games this season with the pile of fixtures and the evident lack of goalscorer given that the YouTubes suggested he could play as a deep lying striker breaking through the defensive line as much as a playmaker, but we'll never know.

What is it with you muppets being so rude to someone making a series of perfectly valid points.

I'd say he's similar in that he's clearly a big lad who likes to bring the ball forward, is comfortable with it at his feet and can pick a pass. He looks strong in the tackle too, and quick.

Forren aside, we've done damn well bringing in center backs in recent years, I don't get where all the negativity is coming from.

Gardos?

Gardos?

True, I'd forgotten about him, but we've signed probably the two best center backs in the league in Alderweireld and Van Dyk.

So not joining Saints then.

Who cares?

Can't get upset about someone I've never heard of, never seen, not joining Saints!!

Will we ever sign someone I have heard of again..?

First rejected by Wagner, now rejected by Semedo. Who's next... #wecrawlon

Too busy d*cking around with the Claude situation. I've got no idea what we're doing.
