The board knew Martin's philosophy yet they bought him a load of duds instead of pushing the envelope and bringing in the kind of calibre of player that embraces the system.

Too many happy clappers, some are delighted we sold Fernandes and Dibling so close to the end of the window where we can't spend a bean. The board will pocket the bulk of those funds you watch.

You dont seem to understand the issue of PSR.

Come for whining about the Dibling transfer. Stay for the post transfer trolling.

I thought trolls had to have at least a little credibility.

Mind you, the 'happy clappers' reminds me of some ex-posters on here, so there's a very small possibility he isn't an Evertonian.

Radio 5 were having a chit chat about Martin, Amorim, & Potter this morning. One of the press contributors who knows Rangers said Martin had 7 interviews before he was appointed. Obviously I know nothing of these things but aside from thinking that was a rather large number - somebody somewhere in the process must have had some inkling of what they might have been getting.
hey ho not our problem.

There's something of the Svengali about him.

It was a good article. He very eloquently kicks him in the nuts time and again

Agreed, in a world where I am happy to call out most "journalism" on the BBC as a lot of poorly written, badly proof-read tripe, this guy can write and this article is really very good. The sledgehammer subtlety is wonderful.

He wasn’t backed at Swansea or MK Dons as well.

I'm sure it’ll carry on happening.

Doesn’t seem that long ago he was on Linekar’s podcast & Monday night football, thrilling the hipsters with his modern approach, whilst educating us dinosaurs.

The myth of his management has well and truly been busted & it wouldn’t surprise me if the myth that’s he’s “a nice man” will follow as the pressure mounts.

He’s a self centred arrogant cock, who should have been ran out of town this time last year when it became obvious that he put his career, sorry project, above the well being of our football club. For me that’s unforgivable. As bad as other managers have been, they’d have done anything for 3 points, this fucking Lego headed vegan onion wouldn’t. He deserves every bit of clog he’s getting and long may it continue.

The two Managers in my memory who have not gone too well with the supporters are Branfoot and Martin  although the latter did have a degree of support two years ago.
Branfoot preferred the long ball game whereas Martin was the direct opposite.
Let's hope Still can provide a suitable condensed version of the two styles proving a few more goals in the opponents net and a tightening up of our defence.

Signing Bojan Miovski. Martin wanted him here did he not?

I think the Miovski rumour was fan led because our then Hd of Recruitment ( Darren Mowbray) had scouted him for Aberdeen.

Puel and Pellegrino were not well loved either

I noticed he's blaming everything that went before, poor players, players want out, scar tissue, all that nonsense.

He's creating his own scar tissue as he did with us. He makes it sound like it was a mess and they finished nowhere in the SPL, but they came second on 75-80 points and qualified for the Champions league. It can't have been 'that' bad.

I saw him bring up their relegation years as well, when they dropped down to the 2nd division - why is that relevant? They've bossed the league under Gerrard since then.

All he does is deflect, deflect, deflect. It's infuriating. The bloke is a charlatan and in many ways it's good for the national media to now see it in black and white, we weren't as 'interesting', but Rangers are a bigger deal.

He won't get another job after this in management.

I doubt he'll need one with another big contract pay-up likely just around the corner 🙂

Football fans know his ‘philosophy’ all too well. When Leicester were linked with him, their fans called out his one-dimensional suicideball straight away, they didn't want him. Rangers fans didn't want him. He nearly threw away our promotion because his sides couldn’t defend to save their lives, and that was with the second-biggest budget in the league.

Which really makes you wonder: what game is he talking behind closed doors that keeps getting him employed?

I enjoy your posts H&W - and your era-defining user name!  Genuine question - you post a lot, and with a fair bit of detail,  about the Gers.  Any reason?  Second team?

Thanks very much. That's nice of you to say.

No, Rangers aren't a team I follow (or even follow, follow), but the tinpot Scottish leagues were a nonsense the moment they started adjusting the league size so teams could get as many Old Firm fixtures as possible. So, it's always been of interest as a cautionary tale. And I know lots of supporters of them.

This week I've been giving them the space they gave me, when we were rooted to the bottom of the PL.

They already knew what they were getting. But there's a difference in being told it, with Martin, and seeing your club's pride and history  being trashed live.

I was even nice enough not to point out that Rangers history is really only about a dozen years. That's how grim it was.

I know very little about contract law (well....nothing actually), but one would assume that Glasgow Rangers have protected themselves somewhat in their contract with Russell Martin. That...

1) If, after two months, the aforementioned Mr Russell Martin has shown himself to be totally out of his depth and utterly inept at his job

2) Has alienated just about everybody on the blue side of Glasgow, whilst at the same time, causing much mirth and delight to the green side

3) Has failed to win a single game in the Scottish Premiership against so-called inferior opponents

4) Has shown himself to be an utter knob of the highest degree

5) Has shown signs that he is more interested in ranges of hair products, than in the fitness of the squad members

6) Has used the same disastrous tactics as used in his previous tenure as a coach (you poor, poor Southampton supporters - we are feeling your pain) and is incapable of playing in any other style

7) Is likely to finish tenth or thereabouts, in what is traditionally a two-horse race

8) Has purchased his own extra large bus, in order that he can throw the entire team under it

Then we, Glasgow Rangers (who were totally taken in by his hipster bullshit) can relieve him of his duties and not pay him a single Scottish pound.

Our fanbase are one of the softest in the country unfortunately. Even at our lowest point under him, we still had a good 20% of fans wanting him to stay, embarrassing

Learning point for our fanbase how they’ve dealt with him up there and also Pellegrino was equally out of his depth with us and Les Reed got away scot-free (no pun intended). Their board is doing the supportive bit but if an also-under pressure Celtic and Rodgers pump them 5-0 in their own backyard he isn’t surviving that.

Got a funny feeling Rangers will get a result though!

Right but he did actually get us promoted though so as much as I dislike him, it's not the same as what he's doing at rangers.

Tends to do well in derby matches. Concentrates the mind maybe, he just can’t sustain the effort over a period of time.

Will be an interesting game to watch (sky) or listen to (radio 5) considering the stakes for both managers, more so with Russell (bags packed already) Martin.

For Fabrices's sake, I really hope so... The poor fella has been sat there for weeks now patiently waiting to copy and paste his 'told you do' missive into this thread. Starting to feel a wee bit sorry for him if truth be told.

Surely the best outcome is a hard fought draw to give them hope and prolong the train crash? That being said I'm also here for sacked-by-september.

Much like the playoff final the Rangers players may get lost in the occasion and not follow instructions.

Martin has now bombed out Nicolas Raskin, a Belgian international and one of their fans' favourite players, after his dad slaughtered Russ on social media and basically called him a clueless egomaniac after the 1-9 Brugge debacle. Russ has now isolated him and left him out of the planning for their biggest league game of the season, the Old Firm derby on Sunday.

His dad for god's sake 🤣. Definitely not proving him absolutely right by showing that his ego can't take criticism though, no sirree.

Fans once again apoplectic.

Never his fault, no, never. It's their fault for not buying into the Rylan Circus.

Everyone needs to be all in. Let's be honest - Raskin is never going to be able to replace Joe Slothwell from the centre of the Rangers midfield. There aren't many players with his range of passing and sheer physicality unless he can tempt Smallbone away from Southampton. Though imagine the dream central midfield partnership if he could.

That was in the second division. He’d have done exactly the same had he replaced Ralph in summer 2023
