Please no! He instilled the whole “comfortable for his mates” environment which led to us being completely embarrassed in the prem and was a laughing stock with Rangers

In all honesty I'd be open to it with the option to review if we get promoted.

Better manager than Still, knows the league and can actually win a game or two of football. Already knows the lads and infrastructure so can hit the ground running.

Yes he can be a onion and has a ego but least he has a good rapport with players and can get them doing something....

I think we are in a position  where we can't afford to be fussy

Completely Agree.

Odds shortening.

Bookies must know something!

Return of the mac(tcha)

It's almost as if one man, recently in receipt of two pay offs is going round all the betting shops.

The embrace between him and Downes, upon his return will bring tears to our eyes.

You have to be fucking mad. He is half the reason we are so shit.

if we bring anyone back it should be Ralph. But even that would be silly

As I said when he was sacked, the board bloody loved him and didn't want to sack him. They knew we had no chance in the Prem, but were taken aback by the fans toxicity towards him, so he had to go in the end.

Even with their love of him, I would be surprised if we went back.

Others, including Aflie House, said there are plenty within the hierarchy at SFC who do not like Martin (which is reciprocal)

Exactly yet some want him back unbelievable! Have they forgotten what it was like at that Spurs game? Why are they ignoring what happened at Rangers?

The players got Mondays off and couldn’t run 100 yards without collapsing on knees!

Yet some want back …..madness!

If this happens I won't be bothering watching another Saints game till he's inevitably gone again, knowing already how utterly fucking boring his football is even when winning.

If some players do want him back, that is reason enough for us not to appoint him.

There are plenty of players who need to ship out over the next couple of transfer windows and they know the gig is up with a hard taskmaster.

Who are these people? Flynn Downes and Lallana?

THB

Downes

Manning

Stephens

Fraser

Bazunu

Probably Aribo

Probably Lallana

Would all love him back I’m sure. It depends how much influence these wankers have over decision-making. He also wouldn’t cost anything. I wouldn’t rule it out at all.

Are you writing that as a positive for Martin or not?? 😂

“The hierarchy are admirers of Frank Lampard and Mark Robins is another who scores highly in their data-led recruitment model.”

‘Data-led recruitment model’ = looking at the top 3 in the Championship and wondering who their manager is. Let me guess - Rob Edwards ‘scores highly’ too?

Impressive stuff. Watch and learn, Tony Bloom.

RM will not be coming back.

Just goes to show though, if Alex Crook's report is correct, what big babies there are in this squad.

Would rely more on Alfie House and his understanding that RM and the board didn't get along.

SR should've acted sooner and appointment Danny Rohl before Rangers got him.

Dragan said that he didn’t want to sack him, and said that he felt his hand had been forced or words to that effect, and Spors joined after Martin went.

So he must be talking about Ankersen and/ or Parsons. But surely its Spors’ process to own and Dragan signs it off.

Once they get knocked back by a few other targets and start to panic it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

So-called "senior" players want RM back do they? Presumably because they rather enjoyed being in his cabal of mates and swanning around with a lack of fitness. It'd be a recipe for a split right across the club - players, fans and owners - if Martin were to return. Just imagine the reaction to the first goal conceded after giving the ball away after fannying around at the back endlessly.

Maybe it's the "senior" players who are the real problem.

There is zero chance that Martin will be coming back to us

With betting its generally the odds on fav that is no the manager its a way of getting bets on outsiders like 16 or 40/1 with Saints it's likely to be an unknown manager from Luxembourg 4th division, or computer scientist from IOW or 8th division in Assam.

The players are the problem. Why would we appoint somebody they want? F them.

That’s not what Alfie said on tsp, the complete opposite in fact.

I'd love to be a bookmaker. Just come up with a bunch of random names, stick some random numbers next to them and the idiots just give you their money. Then if anything looks like it might actually happen, you just stop taking bets.

Don't encourage them. SR dream of such appointments. 🙂

Alfie House reckons the board can’t stand him and the feeling is mutual.

All the players that were at Southampton under Martin's last attempt should be on the outbound shipping inventory anyhow, they are not good enough for anything other than bottom of the premier league, we should have ambitions beyond that.  I would like to see Marcelo Bielsa come in, a known task master whose Leeds players said his training was mentally and physically exhausting.  A PTI from the Paras would do us some good as well, regardless of who we appoint.

I don’t put too much stock in the betting markets but;

Martin is a decent enough manager, heavily possession based and its a direction the club want to go down so could have legs

Its a tried and tested method,  Burnley did it. You don't need to then compete in window for fast physical players who cost more than Saints can afford. Coaches just want possession these days with long ball but we don't do long ball

Tbh with the physical characteristics of the squad we have, something closer to Russball is probably most likely to get results - no chance we succeed with a long ball/direct manager. Not saying it should be RM, I really can’t see it will be, but stylistically we’d be better off for sure.

As the senior players are said to want him back, I feel its time to get rid of them as they have thrown other managers under the bus. Bad influence and only do it again.

Course they do, he was a 'mate' rather than a manager.  Rhino, Taytay or whatever ... ugh.

Still mentioned multiple times that it was hard to remove Martin's way of playing out of the players, so surely it would be daft to rehire Martin. He's caused alot of damage at Rangers too, and his way of playing isn't the way teams play now. Plus Still mentioned the players weren't very fit when he joined

So, for me, it's just anyone apart from Martin who either needs to change or give up managing

I would imagine the chants for SR to be gone would get louder and more ferocious should they appoint RM.

The same supporters who chanted for him to be sacked during the humbling in his last game against Spurs, which rightfully happened.

Same manager who had to have a police escort out of the ground due to his woeful tactics, results and typical arrogant responses in press conferences, whilst at Rangers.

The manager that even the majority of Norwich fans are seemingly against, when they finally sack Liam Manning.

That all said, given the incompetence of SR up until this point, they would probably do it anyway.

If true, these “senior” players who want their mate back for an easy ride need dropping to the U21s and selling at the earliest opportunity. We need to move on from the shambles that got us here in the first place

Russell Martin?? FFS! What is happening in our club when players, some of them shite ones, are apparently actively involved in selecting the manager??

It’s honestly crazy people can watch this season for example, or any of the football under managers since Martin and still think his football was boring. I’m in no way advocating his return, I think that would be a terrible idea, but the rewriting of history of a season in which we scored quite a lot of goals and had a genuine plan of attack which we haven’t seen since is so odd and is just as crazy as us ‘obsessed Martin fans’

We need to move on, Russell Martin is not the answer. the team needs an overhaul not reversion to the awful possession obsessed theories he refused to alter.

Presumably his reappointment would come with vegan shandy in the concourse, a wholefoods next to the lovely arcade and a Buddhist temple next to the dugout.

Fuck me, it's going to happen isn't it.

Can you imagine if RM came back and the first match at St Mary's after about 10 mins of barely getting over the halfway line Captain Jack passes back to an on running centre forward who puts the ball in our net ?

There would be a fkin riot !!!!
