Let's take comfort in the fact that he's going to have a shit time at West Ham.

The last Portuguese Bernado Big Bollocks who left us to go to the Hammers stank the place out and died on his arse.

In 3 weeks time he'll have a new manager to impress, so good luck.

Noticed that their fans seem very ambivalent about Fernandes, a case of ‘who’s next’ and ‘I thought it was going to be a double announcement today!’ et al. Dogshit club with a challenged and entitled fanbase, as per Everton with Dibling. Good luck Matty…

Some bad blood for sure

Quote

Mateus Fernandes has today left Southampton to join West Ham United in a package worth over £40m.

The Portuguese midfielder departs 12 months after joining Saints, having recorded two goals in 36 Premier League appearances last season.

The club wishes him the best for the future.

Good player. Good luck to you, your club is going to struggle this season. You might find yourself out the door again yet.

Hmm. Doesn't wish the club or the fans all the best, etc. Just about his growth. Doesn't suggest a happy parting to me.

Decent fee, decent player. Good luck to him, it looks like he's in for another tough season.

Yep. Good luck to him, he'll need it - relegation beckons.

I wonder which training ground he'll visit next summer?!

I dont agree with you there, I feel it is a respectful message and does mention the fans. Im not sure what he means by the Leicester game, !!

We all knew that Matty is far too good for the Championship and would likely leave. Just a shame it’s for somewhere as shit as West Ham and their government funded library of a stadium/atheltics track.

Hopefully he’ll get picked up by a decent European team next. He always gave 100% so wish him well

There's absolutely no well wish to the club or the fans, just a bit me, me, me. Respectful, yes, but not the best message to put out imo.

Anyways, he's gone, we get cash to build, so no drama.

He wasn't here then. Just checked to make sure i was right, we lost 2-3 to a goal in the 8th minute of injury time. Either he's got the game wrong or his best memory is an 98th minute losing goal. 😂

Oh and dont worry Matty, we aren't hurt. Its quite amusing that West Ham have 3 players now from us which were part of two of the worst premier league teams ever 😂

Game against Leicester? Where we lost 3-2, that was his best memory 😂

Didn’t we take him off at HT away at Leicester, the fans sung his song for 40 mins straight in protest to Rusk subbing him off. It was a bit mad.

Sang his name for the whole 2nd half up there

Before yesterday I had the faintest hope that the fans singing his name for the second half up at Leicester after Rusk took him off may have invoked a feeling of wanting to stay and correcting the wrongs of last season. Then after West Ham's miserable start to the season, they didn't seem an attractive proposition. But, it wasn't to be.

Seems like his departure will allow us to sign three or four good players for the level we're at, so softens the blow.

Hopefully West Ham get relegated.

ah okay fair enough, that makes sense, forgot about that. I take it all back.

Fair play for never letting his head drop during last season's shit show. The good wishes are slightly tarnished by the way he left but on balance, good luck to the lad. At least he didn't get ChatGPT to write his farewell.

More excited by who we've got lined up than getting fussed over a player that's brought us decent profit.

"Incredible season"

Hahahahahaha

He's speaking personally I assume, incredible for him as he got to play in the PL - and thus secure a move which keeps him there.

I had hoped we'd keep him to be honest, a bit like KWP, but it's best to not keep players around who clearly want out - it upsets the whole group when you have one bad egg.

Sometimes after relegation it's best to have a clean slate, no matter how good the players are. I remember some PL clubs who came down and kept some high level players, but in many ways they weighed them down

Stoke scream out to me - Kevin Wimmer (who was shit tbf, but on big money), Shawcross, Butland, Allen, Martins Indi, Imbula etc. They kept a lot of their high PL earners in an attempt to go straight back, but they were awful for them and that was that.

After a season we've just had a clean slate is undeniably the best option.

Not least because of having so many players having had Russball drilled into them. We still haven't shaken all of those suicidal tendencies as Stoke showed.

At least he mentioned the fans which is more than Tyler sulky Dibling did.

Nice AI written farewell message.

I think the club statement says (or doesn't say) all we need to know about how his departure was handled.

Posted

Proper PL quality players almost always depart on relegation, so no surprise he departed at all. I thought for a second the £50m price tag might be a red line and be too high, but no.

If we get promoted and West Ham relegated, would you take him back?

I think we've done good business with both him and TD. Also quite pleased with who we're bringing in so far, but trying to rein that in as I've been optimistic in a couple of the previous transfer windows.
