i dont remember Forsters contract situation but we signed Gunn in 2018 Forster left in 2022

Agree on Gunn, that was from some of the record VVD money - bar Stu and Bednarek boy did Les piss that up the wall - and just checked Wiki, you’re right that he left SFC summer 2022. Bazunu joined in 2022 also, I knew he came in after Forster but got the wrong summer https://www.vavel.com/en/football/2022/07/30/southampton/1118417-southampton-season-preview-202223.html

Leeds did the same last year and it didn't harm them. It's about building a tram and they look to be recruiting well. Obviously losing those two isn't great but it doesn't mean that they aren't building a decent team that could be up there for promotion.

To be used for the open-top tram parade upon promotion I suppose?

Interesting career so far has Xavier Mbuyamba, has been at both Barcelona and Chelsea but hasn't had the best of luck with injuries.  Was out for ages with a torn miniscus whilst at Chelsea and when he moved to Volendam they discovered he had a heart issue and sounds like he's got defibrillator fitted.  He's played at right back occasionally too.  if you're into lazy comparisons then fill your boots as he's been compared to VVD.

Kind of player I'd have expected us to be looking at prior to signing Quarshie but not so much now unless we're really going to be shedding loads of CBs soon.

Our scouts obviously see him as an ideal player for us then. Can see why.

It was mentioned here before about Harvey Elliott at Liverpool. They've told West Ham to pay £50m so it's fair to say he's completely out of our price range.

Leeds had more than 2 good players to sell though.

Their view could be - we were promoted with these keepers, and a manager who took risks at the back / not great at organising a defence - with more protection and a couple of years older why couldn't he be part of a promotion side again?

Not saying that's my view as clearly Ramsdale would hugely increase our chances

But Gavin was prized by Martin for ability with his feet to be a sweeper keeper as a Pep copycat rather than his core goalkeeping skills which we know aren’t Championship standard, further reinforced by his time in Liege (no Standard pun intended). As a core keeper he will be even more exposed.

He’d been ok as #2 this year but Martin did him in there with the McCarthy extension was which jaw droppingly stupid.  But that’s what the club does these days, look at the controversial Stephens extension. It’s a shock when they actually make an obvious football decision.

It's really not deep I simply said I thought Norwich had made some astute signings and I could see them making the playoffs.

of all the transfer decisions we've made over the last few years his one is up there with being the most ridiculous. Note i say transfer decisions, not signings. As a promising young keeper, a year playing in league one a handful of international caps and a reasonable fee, as a signing it made sense but as a back up to develop and eventually take over from your current keeper. I mean we paid less for Baz than we did Angus Gunn when we already had Forster and McCarthy. To throw him into the premier league and expect him to excel was just utterly stupid. I said as much at the time and a few others did whilst the stats geeks went on about how many clean sheets he'd kept for Ireland. You have to wonder if being so clearly thrown in at the deep end when clearly wasn't ready has ruined him as he wasn't even a particularly competent keeper at championship level let alone Premier league.

Odd thing was seeing him play in his first few games it seemed patently obvious that he was way off the standard required for a starting PL goalkeeper - genuinely all attributes which make a decent keeper were awol.  On relegation, had the club been looking to develop and actually help Bazunu he should have been loaned to a League one or overseas side to build strength, confidence and learn his trade away from the pressure (like we did with Flowers previously).  You have to assume someone at Board level in the club is so desperate for a return on investment that they insist on persevering.  To me, he looks well short of what we need when Ramsdale goes, and plain daft to continue the pantomime under Still and Spors.

Good wages if true, three years of sunshine and can see KWP being curious about his surroundings.

Good luck to the lad, all the best.

His best mate Dele Alli spent time on loan there so no doubt gave him the lowdown. Agree - best of luck to KWP.

He'll also get good teeth and hair which is something older players might take into consideration

Thjnk I prefer this rather than watching him turn out for another English club

Is this code for something I don't understand? E.g. pineapples and pampas grass?

Strikes me as the type of bloke to see some of the local culture and be interested, bit like Romeu was with us, walking the city walls and doing bits of the SW Coast trail.

I’m sure he’s considered his options, but can’t help thinking it feels a bit of a waste (of his talents). Good enough for the PL - or a decent club in one of the major European leagues.

Think Bestikas are spending a bit though, so maybe they’ll have a bigger profile in European competition next season.

This had been long rumoured but neither Southampton or Göztepe have ever publically confirmed that Southampton's Juan Santos is on loan at Göztepe for a 2nd season. He played in a friendly for them yesterday.

Southampton’s player? Might as well be Göztepe’s player for all the good he’ll do our club!

Pampas grass growing in the front garden was considered a sign that the occupants were swingers.

Nice to get it confirmed. My parents moved to a house with it in and next day after the house welcome party dug it up. Always wondered why.

Martin did say at the fans forum that if he didn’t have Bazunu he would recommend buying him. Let’s hope he’s true to his word

Not sure Dublin-born ROI internationals are all that popular down Ibrox way, unfortunately.

Dejan Zukic at Wolfsberger in Austria is another we’ve scouted. 24 year-old Serbian attacking midfielder. 10 goals and 8 assists last season. Perhaps Solak can have a word…

Surely Rangers will be looking closer to home for a dominant ball playing centre half. This is where we see what a masterstroke Stephens' new contract was.

We had one when we moved into our place and we had to burn it out. Took a long time.

Got them to also remove the hot tub because with what it was used for it was probably ground zero for COVID.

He was never signing for another Championship club, despite some people on here insisting we should, "just get it done FFS!" Norwich have been stung by his contract expiring next summer, he would easily be a £20-25m player otherwise.

There's more money for wages in England than in Portugal. And there's room between the £14.25m Porto paid and the £20-25m you think he's easily worth for us to chuck in a better offer while still paying a smaller transfer fee than he's worth.

If only it were that easy. I would suggest that the fact the likes of Aribo bednarek and ABK are still here is not a good sign and rather suggests that they have rather less interest that we perhaps thought they might. Maybe we will see some loan outs.

If there’s clubs considering the likes of Aribo, Bednarek and ABK then I would think they’ll be waiting to late in the window to try and grab a bargain as we’ll likely be desperate to offload.

And probably the same stance as most buying clubs as is often the case. Little the selling club can do.

Yeah, if we are gonna get rid of any we dont want that aren't that good it will all happen very late on in the window

I must admit any confidence i had for the season coming is actually fast evaporating. Badly bloated squad full of mediocre players bar 4 players.

The goalkeeper position is a real concern unless by some miracle we hold onto Ramsdale. I know some will say we got promoted with Baz and McCarthy last time but that was pure luck, we really almost shot ourselves in the foot.

The defence is terrible and god knows what our owners were smoking when they gave Captain Jack a new contract.

If we lose Fernandez and Tyler then we really are in trouble.

Up top i'm not convinced AA really wants to still be here, BBD is a one trick pony that should have been put down. The Lockness Drogba is just a massive gamble whatever way you look at it. The new fella may be decent but i've never heard of him and it smacks of us trying to be cheap and clever (Hope he turns out to be the new RL)

Its still very early in the window. As happens every single time the vast majority of deals happen in August, and even that is skewed towards the end of the month.

ABK is a different case but if we were to end up keeping Bednarek or Aribo its hardly the end of the world - both very good Championship players.

IMO the fact we have got rid of Onuachu and somehow got our money back for Sulemana is a great start to outgoings of unwanted players this summer.
