I think the club are nearing the end of their business, with just 1-2 more in - an ACM and RB (if the rumours are true). I also think it’s more the likes of BBD, Aribo and Edozie who have failed to secure moves that are causing a pause in recruitment. If either Dibling or Fernandes attract the right offer, then the club will take the money and hold it for a war chest if and when we get promoted - £50-100m will not get spunked in this window that’s for sure.

Can I come and make an offer on your house please? 😁

If we don't end up selling Dibling then I wonder if he would sign a new contract with a realistic release clause in it. Because if he doesn't then everyone loses out in a way.

Saints miss out on a proper transfer fee and Dibling has to play at least another season on what I'd imagine are pretty low wages. Not entirely sure it's something the club would offer though.

Will his heart be in it? Personally I'd rather he was sold now.

I was really hoping I could get through this window without hearing the term "war chest".

If I thought it could potentially halve in value over the next twelve months I’d consider it.

Another consideration, I have very good neighbours and I wouldn’t inflict you upon them.

bit of a dilemma

My question is can we afford not to sell one or both of Fernandes and/or Dibling from a financial perspective - to breach the £100M gap/drop in revenue caused by relegation.

I was expecting us to sell both of them this summer for financial reasons as much as anything else - and also THB - as well as the players on the fringes if the squad like ABK, Aribo, Taylor, BBD.

If we keep both does it mean we don't really have the money to bring anyone else in permanently - or maybe just the 1 or instead of 4 or 5?

If we keep both, the former, as we would not need to get other players in on permanent contract, only the odd loan or free (GK). Dibling and Fernandes should be awesome at this level and help cover any deficiencies the side have, which compared to the other championships teams is a better position to be in.

fringe players will go regardless as the squad is too big.

It goes with the territory as they say, but don’t worry, I think there’s more chance of Elon personally walking on Mars as Still having anything remotely resembling a ‘war chest’ to spend on a new squad if we’re promoted.

I reckon if Tyler Dibling is still here come the end of the window then he’ll sign a new contract. I’m sure his agent will be trying to get every cent after missing out on a bumper summer pay day. Probably would have a hefty release clause in it.

Tyler and his agent have no idea what’s going on or what his worth is. Now is the time to offer him a new contract for 8 years on really low wages and make him sign it

Why not? He’d be pretty naive not to tbh.
He hasn’t really earned a lot of money yet and one bad challenge and he’s not going to earn any more.

As long as there’s a mutual agreement that he can leave next summer I think it’s in both sides interest.

He'll be able to leave next summer to any number of clubs for about £15-20m, which means his agent can demand a sizeable signing on fee and shop around for whoever offers him the best deal.

Tyler will lose out on a huge chunk of money if he doesn't.

Unless he gets a career ending injury playing for Saints this season and then he has neither a club, contract or career.

Insurance. Problem solved.

Sit tight for two years and he could demand tens of millions in signing on fees.

The clubs buy insurance to protect their asset (or loss of). Any payout goes to the club, not the player (though some clubs might choose to give some to the player).

He’s not going to be signing a contract with us on the off chance he gets a career ending injury aged 19. He will be no different to any of the many, many other players who’ve done the same thing.

Possibly

Although I think certainly Leicester and Ipswich are

I think we’re on par with Burnley, we were just horrifically managed

Odds of 1 in 2 million of being run over by a bus, though. So there's that.

Chance of being eaten by a Lion really quite low, he'd have to go to the right region of Africa to stand any chance.

Sure, but anyone can insure pretty much anything against pretty much any eventuality.  A player most certainly can insure themselves against loss of earnings due to injury. If you are running your contract down, it would make sense.

To be fair, leaving a car window open whilst driving through Toxteth could be just as life ending. As he'll get accustomed to if he moves to Everton.

I get the impression our recruitment team have got their search engine filter stuck on the German market.

Maybe someone at the club connected their VPN to a German server after the recent online safety bill came in to find some *ahem* specialist material, and just forgot to turn it off.

Of course, though it would be a very expensive outgoing for him on his alleged £5k pw contract… perhaps he should sign a new one to help pay for it 😉

I agree. With a different manager we would have gone down but with more points than we had.

Not in my part of the world. Odds of 1 in 2 million of ever seeing a bus.

Feels to me like we need to sell Dibling or Fernandes to fund a couple more moves. We would prefer to sell Dibling as pure PSR profit and his value will start to diminish but Fernandes more likely to attract offers. The longer it does the more clubs know we need to sell one of them so no real incentive for them to offer much more than they are now. Will we call their bluff and keep both? Very unlikely.

Incomings wise Spertsyan seems to have 'new contract or wait til Jan' vibes so the Brazilian guy makes sense - cheaper and from a market that is well known to our Sporting Director and Chief Scout.

Don't see us spending what Cov would want to get Rudoni - he surely isn't worth £15-£20m?

No thanks; he’s between 1” and 2” taller than Wellington and not even as tall as 5’9”.  I know it does not matter so much for a winger but if we are to get another Brazilian I’d rather get one as tall as Guly.  And one who contributes as much to our promotion as Guly did but Spors and Lederer should know more about him than I do; perhaps he will.

If that means we sign athletes and units who can kick a ball accurately and quickly to teammates rather than short stops who fall over with the slightest push and can't beat a man then I'm all for it

Yeah, there's certainly worse leagues to sign players from.

If the Spertsyan move was going to happen I think there’d have been something definite by now. He’s had time to mull it over, no need to sit down and speak with their owner other than to eek out a counter offer.

The Scienza link seems to be one of our going down the list moves. The sort of move that in the past has seen us end up with Elyonoussi after we originally targeted Maddison.

Good league to sign from. Providing the players are up to scratch of course.
