Bournemouth getting ripped apart (I know Kepa was only a loan).

Remember the glory days when it used to be us getting dismantled by the bigger teams? 😢

Yeah and they’ve gone to PSG, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Goes to show how good their recruitment has been.

🚨 West Ham's opening bid for Mateus Fernandes was £28m + £2m in add-ons, to which Southampton quoted £50m –– there is a sizeable gap in valuations & a compromise is not close, with West Ham now prepared to cool their interest & explore alternatives #saintsfc @JacobSteinberg

Seems to be going the same way as Dibling. Said club realises they can't get the player on the cheap so give up.

It's why they go there as they know they will get a bigger move. No one goes to play for Bournemouth to stay there and play in their 11k B & Q shed with the granny ultras. Fair play to their recruitment team, mind.

I would think the club are making the fairly solid assumption that he doesn't want to go to West Ham that much.

I saw it mentioned (not sure where) that he actually prefers a move abroad if anywhere.

To the song Rasputin by Boney M:

Eduard Spertsyan

Southampton’s Russian goal machine

He takes the piss and he scores for fun

He’ll fire us back to where we belong

Imagine signing James Ward-Prowse for £30m and then thinking you can get Fernandes at the same cost.

Yeah it does:

Yeah but then the whole Rasputin reference becomes redundant with no Russian connection.

How about we just scrap the idea completely.

Think we need to get back in touch with Everton and West Ham to sincerely apologise for the liberties we’re taking with our valuations.

According to Michael Dawson on Sky, we shouldn’t have asked for so much because we only got 12 points last season.

Would be a really smart signing, Championship ready (one of the best Championship players in his position) and a PL upside to him if coached properly - he's still only 23/24.

One of the midfield signings I wanted us to make, we defo need cover in the CM area.

I don’t know much about him, who would he replace as he won’t be coming here to sit on the bench

He’s an advanced 8, right?  Rather than a 10?

I think he'd rotate with Downes, and potentially start in a 3 if we ever reverted to that (and dropped the 3 at the back crap). He's more energetic than Downes I'd say, more of a goal threat from late runs. I wouldn't call him a 10, defo a CM with an attacking upside.

That's what I'd call him, yeah. A more attacking Downes, or an upgrade on Smallbone if you like.

He’s pretty much like for like on Fernandes, unless we changed up system.

Yep, I'd suggest a Fernandes replacement...

I mean, Fernandes can also do a 10. I wouldn't discount us continuing with Fernandes and having Rudoni too. We'd just have a really strong attacking base. (still need to improve the wide areas).

What I would say though, if we get Rudoni and keep Fernandes, that almost certainly equals the end to that Eduard move - if it was ever on in the first place.

Yep, don’t want to sell MF but we will for 40m and spend 10, nice tidy profit for SR

He's a Charles/Fernandes box to box type, rather than holding midfielder or an in-the-hole.

Doesn’t Eduard play as more of an advanced MF than either Rudoni or Fernandes, or possibly a wide MF ?

I can see a role for him, but can’t see us spending big on two midfielders, assuming Fernandes stays. Then we have the puzzle of where does Dibling play if he stays, wide right presumably.

better to have several irons in the fire in case we need one or two due to departures.

Not sure we need another box to box midfielder at the moment tbh.

Still think we’re missing a proper defensive midfielder.
