I think the club are nearing the end of their business, with just 1-2 more in - an ACM and RB (if the rumours are true). I also think it’s more the likes of BBD, Aribo and Edozie who have failed to secure moves that are causing a pause in recruitment. If either Dibling or Fernandes attract the right offer, then the club will take the money and hold it for a war chest if and when we get promoted - £50-100m will not get spunked in this window that’s for sure.

I think it will prove to be a mistake rejecting Everton's last offer.

Can I come and make an offer on your house please? 😁

If we don't end up selling Dibling then I wonder if he would sign a new contract with a realistic release clause in it. Because if he doesn't then everyone loses out in a way.

Saints miss out on a proper transfer fee and Dibling has to play at least another season on what I'd imagine are pretty low wages. Not entirely sure it's something the club would offer though.

Will his heart be in it? Personally I'd rather he was sold now.

I was really hoping I could get through this window without hearing the term "war chest".

If I thought it could potentially halve in value over the next twelve months I’d consider it.

Another consideration, I have very good neighbours and I wouldn’t inflict you upon them.

bit of a dilemma

My question is can we afford not to sell one or both of Fernandes and/or Dibling from a financial perspective - to breach the £100M gap/drop in revenue caused by relegation.

I was expecting us to sell both of them this summer for financial reasons as much as anything else - and also THB - as well as the players on the fringes if the squad like ABK, Aribo, Taylor, BBD.

If we keep both does it mean we don't really have the money to bring anyone else in permanently - or maybe just the 1 or instead of 4 or 5?

If we keep both, the former, as we would not need to get other players in on permanent contract, only the odd loan or free (GK). Dibling and Fernandes should be awesome at this level and help cover any deficiencies the side have, which compared to the other championships teams is a better position to be in.

fringe players will go regardless as the squad is too big.

It goes with the territory as they say, but don’t worry, I think there’s more chance of Elon personally walking on Mars as Still having anything remotely resembling a ‘war chest’ to spend on a new squad if we’re promoted.

Obviously this years "insane signing".

Most of our signings in the past few seasons have been insane
