Responsibility is a form of performative art. And this culture starts at the top - as a former boss used to say "a fish rots from the head". To be fair to WS, he did take the responsibility for the results. But as said earlier, it wasn’t him misses the many chances up top or cocking things up at the back. Although there are some weak areas, this squad is plenty good enough to be pushing for the play offs at the moment. If Eckert gets results in the next 3 matches it will not be unreasonable to ask why Still was unable to do the same with the same squad. 2

Then the club shouldn’t be giving them 100 per cent of their wages. I do miss the days of Adkins, Pochetinno, Koeman and Strachan when we had a squad of largely likeable players and I looked forward to the next game. On the exception of Scienza, Charles and a few others this squad has some absolute helmets in it. 9

Sheaf Saint Posted 22 November, 2025 Posted 22 November, 2025 While I'm still far from convinced by Eckert, today's performance shows beyond any doubt just how utterly shit Will Still's management and coaching was. We looked like a proper team today, and what's even more telling is that the substitutions, unlike under Still, didn't completely wreck our shape and game plan and leave us fighting a desperate rearguard action. Just further evidence of terrible judgement on the part of Spors/SR for hiring him in the first place. 7
Pamplemousse Posted 22 November, 2025 Posted 22 November, 2025 The football we played today was what I was expecting when he was appointed. Fast, forward play, aggressive, determination. And we got none of it. Such a disappointment. When the skates dominated against us, in hindsight we should have sacked him there and then. And now look at us. 8

Just further evidence of terrible judgement on the part of Spors/SR for hiring him in the first place. Agree with your opening comment, and conclusion. But I wouldn’t read too much into the substitutions today. Subs don’t normally come on to the luxury of a 5-1 lead. They didn’t need to chase or change the game, all they had to do was stifle an already beaten and demoralised opposition. Avoid any monumental fuck ups, and not lose a 4 goal advantage. Not too much to ask even for us.

Turkish Posted 24 November, 2025 Author Posted 24 November, 2025 I will never understand what he was trying to do with the Blackburn game that was when i was done with him. I was also at Hull and that was one of the worst performances i've seen from a Saints team. As others said, the warning was there against Wrexham, we were poor and got lucky. However I still cannot believe that was all there was to WIll Still. You dont get a reputation like he did with such absolutely dreadful team selections, subs and tactics. Something wasnt right from the start. 4

JohnnyShearer2.0 Posted 25 November, 2025 Posted 25 November, 2025 Quite telling what Harwood-Bellis implied. Said Tonda makes it all clear for them and they work like crazy on set pieces. Implies that Stills messaging or ideas were a jumble. Which was conveyed on the pitch. 5

I am incredibly surprised now how it is Still ever managed to 'manage' a football team, frankly. 1
Ted Bates Statue Posted 7 December, 2025 Posted 7 December, 2025 I do feel a bit sorry for him as it just didn't work out for him here at all, and now seems to have been totally outshined by the novice, Tonda. Ah well, maybe his old team Lens would have him back... What do you mean, they're currently flying at the top of Ligue 1?! 1
CB Fry Posted 9 December, 2025 Posted 9 December, 2025 I wonder if anyone is prepared to offer the opinion now that the issue is not the manager but the sub standard players. 2

It wasn't thar strange given how poor we were last season. The thinking wasn't that the players were not capable but that last season had messed them up mentally.

RedArmy Posted 9 December, 2025 Posted 9 December, 2025 Tonda has even managed to coach the russball out of Downes. This fraud couldn’t even get Fellows and Azaz looking like professional footballers. 1
Graziano94 Posted 9 December, 2025 Posted 9 December, 2025 Maybe Will Still had Lens underperforming too. They currently sit top of Ligue 1 after 15 games…
wild-saint Posted 10 December, 2025 Posted 10 December, 2025 I’m unsure if Will Still has done more damage to Will Stills career or has Tonda?

ChristopheVAFC Posted 15 December, 2025 Posted 15 December, 2025 Will Still revient sur son départ de Lens pour Southampton : « Je regrette de ne pas avoir parlé plus tôt » Quote Will Still reflects on his departure from Lens to Southampton: "I regret not speaking up sooner" On Canal Football Club on Canal+, Will Still explained why he left his position as Lens manager at the end of last season to sign with Southampton in the Championship, while his wife was battling cancer. A guest on Canal Football Club on Canal+ Sunday evening, Will Still didn't just discuss the FC Nantes interest, who wanted him to succeed Luis Castro a week ago. The 33-year-old Belgian spontaneously explained his departure from Lens for Southampton in May, while his wife was fighting cancer. "The decision to leave Lens at the end of last season was purely personal. I'm speaking as a human being. What I regret is not speaking up sooner." Because in September (2024), she had thyroid cancer that required treatment. I didn't talk about it; I told the players because I had to be away for a day or two. And in February and March, she had encephalitis; her brain swelled, and she spent ten days in a coma. I had reached a point in my life—and not just my coaching life—where I needed to go home, take care of her, and be a bit calmer. “When I look back, maybe I had reached a stage where I needed to think about something else.” Will Still “I met Southampton.” Emma (his wife) had studied there, part of her family knew the area well, it's not too far from her family, we moved there, and it's a big club. They had just been relegated from the Premier League, and I thought it was the right package at that point in my career,” he added. “And when I look back, maybe I had reached a stage where I needed to think about something else, and that's what I'm doing now.” Appointed at the end of May, Still was sacked by Southampton in early November after 16 matches, only 4 wins, and a 21st-place finish out of 24. Still also mentioned the contacts he had with Sunderland in December 2023 when he was still the manager of Reims. “I never even went to Sunderland.” My wife and I have a house in London, and I did speak with Sunderland's management, but never with the intention of saying, "I'm going to leave Reims right away." It was more like, "I don't want to die ignorant; if there's an opportunity... I didn't want to betray Stade de Reims. There was a great opportunity; can we talk, exchange ideas? Yeah, why not? That's what I did, and I know it was very poorly received." 3
