Sounds like Leicester really struggled in the first half against Preston.

Wonder how many of their players actually want to be there because their front 3/4 should be ridiculous at this level.

Going to be a very, very, long season for Burnley fans.

And West Ham on this basis too.

Sunderland 2-0 up. Brilliant for them.

I know it's only one game but it's a great start for them. They've invested heavily but it's what you have to do these days to have any chance in that league.

West Ham will be down there this season I think.

They were turgid last year, really they have been since at least the Conference League win. I think it's their time this year.

Should make Fernandes think twice about wanting consecutive seasons of relegation struggle…..Sunderland showing how a 4th placed Chamionship team might have a chance of staying in the Prem….!

I just can’t fathom how Sunderland have managed to do that. They didn’t sign a bottom half Championship defender for £3m or a 37 year old cripple who’s ’great in the dressing room’, how can they possibly succeed?!

Did Sunderland not get the memo that good players don't move to clubs like ours until the final weeks of the transfer window? Also not allowed to spend above £25m.

Thats what happens when you let a stubborn Scottish prima donna dictate transfer policy

GOAL - Rangers 1-1 Alloapublished at 23 mins

Joe Rothwell (own goal)

Wow. No idea who scored it, but what a moment for Alloa.

It's a lovely move initially to send Steven Buchanan away down the right. But when his cross goes in, it's chaos.

Stefan Scougall has a shot which hits off Joe Rothwell's arm, it comes back to the midfielder and it appears to be cleared off Rothwell's head and into the net.

Bizarre. It all started from Nasser Djiga giving the ball up cheaply.

Must have been well worth it, to get shafted at Bournemouth, and especially 5-0 down at HT home to Spurs.

Jamie Redknapp which one of his pointless punditry nuggets just now.

He described City's new signing, Reijnders, as one of those players you look at and he just looks like a footballer.

No shit.

Just seen Sunderland's kit on MoTD. Arguably the worst red and white striped effort I've seen in a long time.

Stripes on (some of) the back though.

Brentford, as expected, look to be in real trouble this year. It's a good season for one of Sunderland or Leeds, they've got a chance.

I'm discounting Burnley immediately as they're so far off, it will be a rinse and repeat for them. The other two have had a go.

How long has Keith Andrews got?

Hopefully they give him the full Alex-Ferguson-had-three-years treatment and keep him in place because MANAGERS NEED TIME

Yeah Frank had Brentford punching above their weight for far too long, this could be a tough season. As much as I’d love West Ham to drop I suspect they’ll turn it around under Potter. I’m hoping Burnley can be the next team to challenge Derby for the wooden spoon record, they’re certainly capable.

Forest are racking up the transfers.

Spent £100m last summer, currently on approx. £180m this summer.

Their sales are a bit smelly too, some pretty average/squad players going for some big fee's (their Greek GK going to Newcastle for £30m for e.g). Some fiddling going on there methinks to avoid PSR crap, but fair play to them if they can wiggle around it. We need to do the same.

They sold Vlachodimas to Newcastle last year, for about £20m, not this year. it was part of the Anderson sale that sorted out both Newcastle and Forest's PSR issues.

They don't have the sane issues this year with the Elanga and Danilo sales.

One year left on his contract. Brentford demanding £60m.

Newcastle desperate for a striker, Brentford desperate to keep theirs. Talk about supply and demand dictating pricing.

I think Danilo's the dodgy one this year. £20m after 8 league appearances last season. A few over inflated prices between Nottingham Forest and John Textor owned clubs. Textor also tried to get Cherki to go to Forest this summer instead of Manchester City. A couple of Botafogo players went to Forest as well, similar to the Anderson/Vlachodimas deal as of course sales go straight into the accounts, while transfers in are spread out over the contract.

They've managed to find a loophole to the PSR setup, like most clubs have (sales of women teams), and if we have the financial power to do so, it would be something we need to do next time we go up. Sell Juan to Goztepe for £20m, as an example.

On the topic of Forest, I did see this on Twitter earlier:

"Sunderland have spent £158m on signings this summer. They've smashed Nottingham Forest's record £142m spend as a newly-promoted team."

While today they've reportedly bid around £30m for Abdul Fatawu from Leicester. They're certainly going for it, similar sized club to us, only sold Jobe Bellingham as their major sale. It's the spending power we need and SR have previously demonstrated they have the money, just not the talent spotters.

Leeds showing how to make a good fist of it on their return to the PL. Totally dominating Everton so far. OK Everton have been every bit as shite as expected but Leeds are properly going for it and looking dangerous.

Watching the games so far this season, we are seeing (hopefully) the phasing out of every manager trying to be the new 'Pep'....

More quick attacking play on view, more crosses and higher tempo.

Are you suggesting philosophy managers with possession based football getting championship players to play like Peps Barcelona is now a thing of the past and high tempo football with wingers and crosses is now cool? Next you’ll be suggesting a big man up top to get on the end of them
