Any chance of applying your expertise in football management to predicting where certain managers will end up...? ;)

Reminds me of that chap from Glasgow (or was it Bournemouth?) that used to post on here a while back... Before your time Willo, so you won't remember him, but he used to like an insurance bet too.... ;)

last year was so straight forward, minimum of three goals a game for the most part. Or for the opposition to score the next goal etc πŸ˜…

A new manager bounce? That's better than we've had for two years. Get him in immediately!Β

We don’t get new manager bounces, remember.

Not even WGS who worked out superbly did really. Drew with Ipswich 3-3 and then a few defeats at Fulham and elsewhere. The first SMS win v Charlton turned the corner and Spurs Boxing Day win, albeit scrappy, pulled us out of the bottom three and then Chelsea hammered at Stamford Bridge.

Probably only Ralph December 2018 after a defeat first up at Cardiff. Poch improved us but the results took a few games to come through. Adkins won a huge streak of games but poor run to start with.Β

Seem to remember we divebombed for a few games when Burley came in (after the thought we’d made a master signing).

But credit where it’s due we had an 89 minute new manager bounce with β€˜Arry. Shame it went down the pan between then and the 91st minute or whatever it was. And then for a few weeks after.Β

Although I can't stand the bloke he is a decent manager. Don't know if he's attainable or not but if he is then it seems a no brainer to me.Β

Don’t be daft. He won’t be attainable for us,and SR won’t be interested as he knows more about football than Rasmus ever will. And that would never do.Β

He had a win rate of 29% at Bournemouth, which, although not good enough for them, is, by our standards, good. It means we should expect more than 4 wins over the next 50 games if he is in charge. We can't ask for more than that, can we?

I'm yet to see a serious suggestion who I'd confidently say would do a better job that ChallinorΒ πŸ™ƒ

I’ll be honest that prior to seeing his name mentioned on here, I had never heard of Challinor. Had to look up online about him and what he has done at Stockport is amazing.Β

However, if the board decides to sack Still, I don’t think Challinor is the right replacement. I think we need someone with experience in the Championship and possibly the Premier League. We are in free fall and need someone who can stop that and build the foundations for a fresh push to the Premier League. Someone who’s seen it, been around for a while and will get the respect from the players instantly.Β

Challinor, Rosenior etc are all great prospects and will likely do well. Still included. But for a young manager to join us now could be very damaging for their career. We are becoming a managers graveyard if we continue like this.Β

Yup, I'd go for him. Tbh I'd go for nearly anyone ATM.

And not only that, when you watch Stockport you can see that he has coached a very effective way of defending against them as well.

Honestly if we signed Brendan Rogers i would be done with this club, i absolutely fucking hate the bloke after the snide comments he made about our club when he was Liverpool manager.

Has anybody read the Celtic club statement calling out BR to be a lying little rat!

If I recall, he was disparaging against the clubs willingness to push on, when we were in and around the top 4. His comments were snide at the time, but in hindsight, they were very on point. I cannot stand the man either, if he was made of chocolate, he'd eat himself. However, it isn't about that. Could he do a better job than Still? Could he pushback against Rasmus and Co.? Could he get us up the table and secure a play off spot at least? If the answer is yes to all three, he would be a more than obvious choice.Β Β

I watched the second half, and highlights of the first, and was suitably impressed.Β

I did however get a bit of a 'spiritual home' vibe from him in the post-match interview, which made me think of those managers that do really well when in a relative comfort zone but then struggle when they move on to other clubs...

And as others have pointed out, coming to a basket case of a club (as we are at the moment) could ruin him!

I thought Carrick was a sideways / backwards possession type of manager? For those advocating Carrack, why would you prefer that to the alternative high-intensity / pressing approach to the game? (Which we were promised with Still of course but is yet to materialise).

I might be wrong but I think people just want a manager who doesn’t fail to win every week

Worth also pointing out here that he's got them top of the league playing with 3 CBs, so Rasmus would love that.

Would like Carrick to get the job. Β Can’t stand Rogers, complete wanker.

What experience has Carrick got over Rogers?

I think this is half the problem with our fanbase, many seem to have these really snobby views about who fits the profile to be a Saints manager. It's obvious that we would benefit from a standard no nonsense, experienced Championship manager, yet far too many of our fans want hipster managers who look great in a pair of chinos and white trainers, but insist on playing tippy tappy shitball against Championship sloggers.Β

We need to drop the snobbery, accept that we're in a real mess and bring someone in who's going to kick the players arses and not accept any bullshit.Β

There isn't a huge amount of talent out there available at the moment, but my main concern would be a new manager who tries to implement a totally new playing style. I remember some comments from players regarding last year and also the 22/23 season where there was so much chop and change it caused bigger problems with continuity.Β

Still is and will be a good manager, but he arrived at the wrong time and thus this is the position we're in. I can't see anyone else coming in and really changing it, especially if the rumours of certain players stinking the place out is true.Β

And worryingly Still has actually shown the balls to drop players without hesitation.

I'm willing to give him a bit more time as I think we do need stability. But he's running out of it and if we put in a poor result against Preston his head is going to be called for.

I don’t think it’s snobbery to not want a complete prick as your manager. Nathan Jones is a complete prick but is doing a great job at this level, would you want him?Β
Β

We’ve got too many pricks at this club already, Rodgers is a prick, a load of our recent managers were pricks, we don’t need more. I don’t think Still is a prick and that’s why people were desperate for him to succeed, but sadly he’s just terrible.Β

Many of the worlds best football managers could be deemed as 'pricks' so I don't really care about the managers personality, I care only about results. If Nathan Jones was getting wins every week, nobody would have given much of a toss about his ridiculous comments.......obviously I wouldn't want him back now.

Gary O'Neil can fuck off, dirty skate bastard. Saying that we all know if they do sack Still (and i'm not convinced they will) it won't be anyone any of us have mentioned here, and definitely won't be someone who actually knows the championship. It'll be another "leftfield" appointment based on data and stats as they try and look clever but are actually fucking dinlows.

Likewise. Although had we trimmed the squad down like he wanted, then I don't think we would be in the same position.

I'd imagine so. From the outside looking in it feels like a divided dressing room at the moment and I think Still is at a loss in terms of how to control it. Maybe binning some off to the U23's would be an option, but I suppose those certain individuals also have a bit of sway over the rest of the squad. Thus backing up the rumours of players not really giving a toss about the results, probably because mates aren't involved in the starting XI or squad.

The problem is, appointing a new manager is always a massive gamble for any club (look at Forest this season). Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't irrespective of the 'new manager's' background.

There's a really interesting article on the BBC today about Sunderland's manager, LeBris (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cy7envzn722o). There are quite a few parallels with Still, although LeBris had played some professional football. But he was hired by Sunderland on the back of leaving Lorient 'by mutual consent' following their relegation from Ligue 1. He had no Championship experience, or any experience of managing in the UK, but came in and did a brilliant job, getting Sunderland firing from the get go in the Championship last season and doing really well so far in the PL.

I'm sure everyone on here would have never had heard of him before (I certainly hadn't), but Sunderland took a chance on him and it worked. Saints took a chance on Still and it certainly hasn't worked so far and it is hard to see any way forward with him. However, left field appointments are not always useless!

Or is this just paper talk, Gary O'neil 🀣.... I'd rather stick with Still and back him properly in Jan with a striker....
