Dusic Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 (edited) Obviously not something that is taken lightly but end of the day its painful being so shite and to a certain extent is a choice that we expose ourselves to this kind of mental load. So, if you were to just fuck it and switch, who would you move to support instead for the next few years of expected wilderness before making Saints your primary again if we march to an upward curve? Personally I live near Brighton these days but there is a big disconnect between their legacy fans and those who think Pascal Gross is their best ever player so they are ruled out. To spite, I think I would go Palace. Pretty PL settled so unlikely to be a direct rival. Good Holmesdale forum. Easy to get to a few games a season, better chants and Punch played well for them too. Will probably see how the rest of this season goes but if its dire, SR stay and Glasner cooks with CP then an easy switch to make and can swap back if fortunes reverse. saintnick Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Oh please F off, no true Saints fan would utter such drivel… 6
sockeye Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 That's ridiculous. If you just want to watch football, there are plenty of non-league sides with more fight than Saints and ticket prices a fraction of the cost of ours... Best thing is you don't need to 'switch allegiance' to do it. 2
Baz Fl Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 I’ve sometimes wished it was that easy but I can’t and don’t have the same feeling for another club, I can appreciate good football and wish other teams well but it never hurts the same when they lose compared to how disappointing a Saints defeat can be. Once a fan you can’t change loyalty, all we can do is hope this shitshow gets fixed one day and the good feelings return
ant Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Just stop supporting a team altogether. My little bro fulfilled the younger sibling role in all aspects other than deciding to glory hunt and be a United fan around the age of 6. He saw the light from then on. You're telling me that at (what I presume is) an adult age you'd go against what a literal child managed to ascertain was wrong? Southampton 'til I die. And if you disagree, be gone with ye. Good riddance. 5

When I was a kid I sometimes went to watch AFCB if we were away and it didnt ever feel like a rival. I recall their admin and many Saints fans donating etc. Same as the L1 season rivalry with Brighton at the Withdean, was panto stuff but we had a 32k stadium vs a shot put arena. Yet both of those are now lightyears ahead of us. Any suggestions of up and coming non league teams that will likely trade places with us but in a less awkward way? Godalming having a good season, but its a bit far. Edited 2 November, 2025 by Dusic 1

Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 If you’re not supporting or at least following the club you supposedly have allegiance to what’s the point? Have a rest - give yourself a break, but don’t expect to receive a positive response to a post like yours from a forum dedicated to the support of one particular club! Back in the days of Lowe I actually ramped up my interest in Saints and bought my first ST. That ‘investment’ paid off over the coming years as we rose through the leagues again. At no point did I consider switching allegiance and nor should you.
HKsaint Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 If you want to be happy, support Liverpool or Arsenal. Honestly, I tried to follow Hammers because of JWP, but I was disinterested and gave up. 1
St. Ciervo Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Politely F-off and die for even posting this thread. Arsenal is thataway ---->
ally_uk Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Brother I'm 40 years old and have supported Saints since I was 8........ I don't care if we end up in the Happy Shopper Non league........ Southampton till I die..... 6
Bakovnetski Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Hmm...Brackley Town are also the Saints 1
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 There is no other team I could even contemplate.
Miltonaggro Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Don’t be fucking daft! Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to get back up. Last time that happened it gave us one of the best decades of supporting our club. It’s our club, that’s why it matters. 5

Turkish Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Don’t you guys all have a premier league team? I support saints and my premier league team is Chelsea. It was hard to decide between them and Newcastle this year but Chelsea winning the World Cup was awesome so chose them. I also support Napoli, Real Madrid and Inter Miami 7
Lighthouse Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read! But since you asked, Port Vale. 8
pingpong Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 I have a concept, that I think some people in here already adhere to - become an anti saints fan. Just support whoever is playing us. You can still go to your local stadium, and you win or draw nearly every week. There's a lack of a long term league target, but you could get lucky and lose a bunch of cup games to get to a wembley game once in a while. 2
AlexLaw76 Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Arsenal are mine this year. However, keeping an eye out for Man United, they are slowly getting better. If I jump ship at the end of the season I can always say I was there when they were shite 2 1

East Kent Saint Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 I'll always be a Saints fan , it is a struggle after the last few years ! It is OK to watch other teams play especially if they are local but I'll still be a Saints fan for ever. Like Turkish says I follow teams in other leagues to see how they are doing and hope they win when I watch on TV .

I now live by London Bridge, Millwall are the nearest club as the crow flies and been to see them a couple of times. Always have a soft spot for Huddersfield after 2010–11 Football League One season where for much of the season they match us result after result in chase for second place. brmbrm Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 (edited) OK, so let me see who is going to win stuff this year: I'll go with Arsenal. maybe change next year if Liverpool/Man City/any other fucking team look like they will win somethng. Anything to just be the big winning person. Well, anything but not Man ure obviously. (The fact is the worse we are the bigger the buzz when we actually win a game. Or even draw.) Yeah, and I'll go and support Pompey !!!! What a load of bolics. Through thick and thin mate. Saw my first Saint's game in 1964 seen the good times , seen the bad times, change allegiance....Never. Ok I'm not a season ticket holder now but been a member for god knows how many years. Might spend a few more Saturdays watching my village team in the Hampshire league, or maybe watching Eastleigh but switch allegiance, never. Edited 2 November, 2025 by 64saint 1

Exactly, I like Cheltenham Town as my local club especially with Steve Cotterill returning who is their equivalent of Lawrie for us. And Torquay United having lived there for more than a decade. Paul Wotton in charge and Warnock as DoF. Now, if Neil was 15 years younger….ideal to sort out the players and SR. Half of them would packing their bags in January. I would classify them as subsidiary clubs I follow and interested in/care about but not the same as Saints having been born and grown up there, had STH, used to be home and away, Junior Saints, parents met at the Dell, mum played for women’s team, were both at Wembley in 1976, grandfather a steward and family worked at the club.

Dr Who? Posted 2 November, 2025 Posted 2 November, 2025 Not something that could ever happen. I have ‘followed’ a few teams where I have lived in the past, but they have to be lower down the league. Torquay (first ever football match I went to). Woking, Cambridge Utd, and Royston Town, and now Carlisle and Annan (places I live) NEC in the Netherlands as I went to their ground in the late 80’s and have followed there fortunes since. In Scotland I also like Hibs. I also watch out for teams Eastleigh, Totton, and Sholing, along with AFC Wimbledon to make sure they are doing better than franchise FC. With all of the above and games that I go to for Cambridge and Carlisle for example, you can never feel the same passion that you do for Saints, nowhere near. You can try and force it, but it can never come from raw passion and the heart. It is like acting football fans in films or tv programs, it cannot be done, as it has to have the passion. I love football and I will pretty much watch and from the championship down (not interested in the Premier League or Champions League or even the other foreign leagues outside of the Netherlands) to Sunday league in the local parks, but nothing matches or comes anywhere near Southampton FC. 1

But I laughed when Walsall scored twice in 2 minutes, which shows I did not really care. Ha ha ha. Also had a really crappy relationship there, but then met my now wife of 20 years, so a bit of a mix bag I suppose. But enjoyed Carlisle beating them yesterday 😃 1
