Freely admit I’m not the best judge of a keeper but I thought he was at fault for both their goals. Won’t comment further as we’ll see how he goes but keeper is such a key position I just hope we haven’t signed another duffer.

Bazunu would have been slaughtered for those 2 goals, but then again Bazunu would have been slaughtered for any goal he let in.

Posters on here making out that Bazunu never normally makes a single save in a match. Just weird or think they are being funny.

I have only seen the highlights but I tend to agree .. the first goal he is to close to his near post for the corner and I think he should do better with second.. at least make an attempt to dive to save it. Any goalkeeper would have been criticised for that..

The double save im not convinced is that great either looks a bit palmy and flappy but he is rusty.

But let's give him the benefit of the doubt. Let him get match sharp then make the judgement and you need to see 90 mins of him.  Not playing in matches for a while can really effect positioning and timings..  the save from the free kick looked decent..

He looks a work in progress.
I liked that he at least tried to come for some crosses unlike bazanu. Still wish we’d got someone who’d come for more.
didn’t mind him coming out for the header. Hopefully communication with defence will  improve with games.

He didn't have much to do in the first half and with the action all at the other end in the second half, it was difficult to judge his performance - though work in progress is a good, if not a little generous, comment. He may be a little rusty but at least he could have bent down and tried to make a save for their second and what looked like master saves at the end of the game on the highlights look simple to make and he seemed all a bit flappy.

But he seems to have a bit of presence and this should instill confidence in the defence.

1st he was out of position. 2nd i think the shot was mishit looking at the reply and wrongfooted him. Give him a few more games and see where we are at.

Obviously not every game but there's been a fair few matches where we've conceded a goal from every shot on target. His save percentage is quite frankly diabolical.

Fully agree. Boro scored 4 from 5 shots on target. After going nearly 8 hours without a goal. Before they played us it was 80 shots without a goal. Bazunu saves less than half the on target shots he faces over what is now a fairly big sample size. He’s also the master of parrying shots back into danger.

Even the great save he made with his face sums up his style, just leaps and hopes and often does it too early, like when he was lobbed on his own line at Birmingham. Sticking with him as first choice this season was a mistake, we could all see that. He may be a decent keeper in the future but he’s just good at playing out from the back at present. Has made a few decent saves this season (Wrexham and 2 at Birmingham come to mind) but even with those he’s still bottom for saving the shots expected for the division.

On Peretz, I liked how quickly he moved his feet for the free kick save (Bazunu dives earlier) and he did seem more willing to come for the ball. Rustiness is to be expected and although a mixed performance you can see some attributes that that our other keepers don’t have. Very interesting to see how he settles in, our next 6 fixtures aren’t easy!

Bazunu gets ripped for being slow to get down, but at least he does get down.  Maybe he'd get an easier time if he just watched it go in like peretz yesterday.

Seemed a bit flappy in general, even his two "good" saves at the end were put back into danger areas.

Think he'll struggle at championship level, which will probably reinforce that the issue is the chances we give away, not the guy trying to save them

He's amongst the worst shot tosave ratio in the division, and that's been the case every season he's been with us. It's not unwarranted.

At least we agree he's slaughtered for every goal he lets in

I thought he was a bit flappy, a bit mad too. That incident when he ran off the line was a bit wtf.

He seemed a bit bat shit crazy, but he did pull off 3 actual goalkeeping saves which was refreshing to see. The goals we let in weren't ideal, the first one i have no idea - he was wandering around his line like a lost child.

Let's see a bit more of him and see what he's about. Batshit goalies aren't always a bad thing, in fact being mental is a common trait in decent goalies. if he's as batshit and good as Boruc then we're fine.

Coincidentally Daniel Peretz fits in the Artur Boruc party chant. I expect to see that one recycled ...

One game out of the team and people already playing down how monumentally shit Bazunu is. Hope he never ever plays for us again.

Well said.

I think that changing the goalie will just give posters a new villain to address. It's our defense that's the problem. Leaky defenses make goalies look bad. You can't really quantify that by using stats (shoutout to Grandad).

I respect and appreciate those posters who know more about goal keeping than me and can explain why Bazunu should save more goals than he does, and I'm all for improving the team in any position. I'll give a pass to those who say he doesn't look like a goalkeeper when to me he looks every inch an athlete, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Those who just swear, well this forum is a broad church and while some want to engage in meaningful discussion others just want a rant , so be it.  Those who say he doesn't save anything are just daft, wrong and they know it. I just think goal keeping is a difficult job especially if you are often exposed by mistakes in front of you and most goals I  see everywhere  come under the category,  could the keeper have done better.

Fair points, although I think the main issue that people have with Bazunu is that, statistically, he's one of the worst keepers in the league. (Of course, we can all accept or dismiss stats to back up a given point of view...). I don't think anyone has accused him of never making a decent save every now and then....?

The one question I ask those who stick up for him is, putting the stats to one side, where do they personally rank Bazunu amongst his goalkeeping peers in this league? Top 5? Top 10? Or, another way of putting it... If you could have a choice of all the goalkeepers in this league to play for Saints, how many would you choose before you got to Bazunu?

I thought Peretz had an excellent debut yesterday 😊 Made a good save from the free kick and then the double save late on which helped us win the game. A commanding and vocal presence too.
