Laughably bad. The panel on the back is quite apt as it somehow makes it look even worse.

It’s a shame the shorts and socks are plain blue, as having that pattern run all the way through really would be quite something.

I reckon it’ll be quite popular with kids, if any adult thinks of getting it they need their head seeing to.

I think it’s good, I like it. The panel on the back won’t be so intrusive with the name and number on it.

From what I've read, the basic rule is that the name and number need to be easily readable. 

If you have stripes, you either need a plain back or you stick a square on the back. 

The exception to this is if the two colours of your stripes are similar in the colour spectrum, and they have ways of measuring this. I think this is why Bournemouth wouldn't need a plain back, as the contrast between a dark red and black isn't too bad. Blue and black stripes would be the same.

 

Some clubs get round this by having a different kit for the players and supporters, but I suspect this gets quite complicated as a lot of fans want names and numbers on their shirts

I know the point you’re making but seems to me that black on red and white is quite prominent. And white on the away shirt shouldn’t need a plain back.

Sunderland and Sheff Weds are both shown on this thread as having striped backs, but we’ll have to see what they look like on taking to the pitch.

For me it’s quite straightforward, stripes on the shirt front and back. Or abandon stripes and go for the Rank Xerox, Halves and occasionally  the sash.

It's a weird one as different comps will have different rules.  Back when we were in the Europa League there was definitely a UEFA rule with a colour contrast formula.

More recently we're rigidly stuck to plain backs whilst others in the same league with similar stripes haven't always done the same.

Off the back of Parsons comments last night I had a very quick scan of the EFL handbook and couldn't see anything specific, but a google search through up this line from Stoke's kit launch this year:

"Supporters will notice that, in response to strong supporter feedback and to prepare for upcoming EFL regulation changes, merchandise shirts feature fully striped backs whereas players' shirts will comprise a plain panel, enhancing visibility of names and numbers for supporters, officials, and broadcasters on matchdays."

So looks like they're may be something more formal for the EFL coming.

I suspect as part of a complete kit with the plain shorts/socks and name/number the back won't look too bad, but as a plain shirt on it's own the back is absolutely honking.

Zero shirts, because there is a clear rule.  If you are a cielab nerd, it comes down to the L difference between the stripe colours.  If it is a delta of 25 or more, you can't overlay the numbers onto the stripes. Basically, if we keep red, the contrasting stripe also needs to be a dark colour.  That's why Bournemouth, inter Milan etc can get away with it, but we cannot.
