I think when West Ham fans talk about JWP's legs being gone they're thinking of this:

 

I don't think it's that bad as Raya is running very quickly even for an outfield player and it must be at the end of the game if he's gone up for a corner, so JWP had probably covered quite a lot of ground by then, whilst Raya would be comparatively fresh from not having to run around for 90 mins.

He probably said "I badly want to play" as opposed to "I want to play baldy" and it got totally misinterpreted.

They're quite positive about him from what I can see. If they deemed him useful last season, it's a good sign.

800k? What were West Ham thinking selling him to us as a Championship rival. Possibly one of the best signings we'll ever make for where we are.

JWP is not responsible for us dropping 2 points today but dont let that get in the way of the haters having any reason to knock his game. He was easily one of our better players today, constant movement, quick passing keeping everything going. Yes plenty of sideways passing but also plenty of forward passes and driving forward with the ball.

I’d describe today’s performance as functional/competent, certainly not a standout performer. Not his fault he doesn’t offer any of the attributes Charles provided, that’s on the club for cheapskating it.

He isn’t the reason we drew today, and to even imply it just makes you look more ridiculous.

That comment was a load of crock though. 

Yes, there's a lot of ball retention going on but that's the style Tonda wants us to play. The map showed plenty of progressive passing but because he also has a lot of sideway passes (to create passing angles forward) they sort of disappear in the crowd.

Amazes me the negativity. JWP is what he is, a very steady, realisable, extremely fit, hard working (never injured) central midfielder. Reminds me very much of Pirlo (clearly not in the same league)  , a quarter back typer of player in that position. Under Jones he played a little further forward in the number 10 role and looked much more positive, which is understandable as that is what the role revolves around. But we have Azaz for that and he’s probably a better choice in this position.   But the position he plays under the style we employ means this is what he’s going to do, sit and move the ball whilst Downes gets a little more stuck in. He takes the set pieces and no doubt will bang in some free kicks at some point. We have not just signed Rodgri, we have signed James Ward Prowse, a very good championship player capable of more than most in this league. Think people got to understand what sort of player he is instead of asking why he isn’t the player he’s not supposed to be.

It could be that apart from being an experienced professional he actually does what  the Coach / Manger asks him to do so I'm all in favour of his return on the lines of Mick Channon  who was brilliant at Man City and very good for Saints .

He's been fine. Nothing standout but nothing that concerns me either. He'll improve as he learns his teammate's games.

Prouse vs Zaha, or "no more Mr Nice Guy" under Ralph. Would like to see a little more of that. 

If we've got him in to be defensive midfielder.  At the moment it looks like he's coasting, waiting for a free kick.

I’m happy with the win but trying to claim that jwp has been virtually flawless is having a laugh.

I think he’s been superb so far. 
 

I was really worried it was going to be another silly backward signing, but he looks fit as a fiddle and solid next to Downes.

At this point in his career he’s pretty limited and not a good replacement for a mobile midfielder like Charles.

As for tonight he was competent, not great, not terrible. difference in the midfield today vs Saturday was downes, who was excellent defensively and getting forward.
I don’t think it should be odd to push back on suggestions that he should be in our best xi.

Yeah, have not been a fan of the signing I guess mainly because I didn't see him as a replacement for Charles. However, tonight he was that experienced head in the middle who was always in the right place and got through a ton of work allowing the likes of Leo and Azaz to work their magic. Downes also seemed to get forward more which adds another string to his bow. Just waiting for a few free kick goals to add the icing.

Don't get me wrong, Shea edges JWP. But not by £29.2m / 31x.

No way we control that game with Charles playing tonight - exactly the sort of game where our midfield would get overrun previously. JWP superb tonight.

JWP has never been a flashy player, he just does the basics right.

The simple pass when it’s best and the risky ball when the pressure is off, effective football.
Constantly moving into space for a pass and bringing others into the game.

We are a lot more effective with him in a game like this than Shea Charles would’ve been.

There will be people that slag him off and have a continuous grudge, but in all seriousness he has done nothing wrong, more impressive given he’s hardly played for two years.

Ignoring Larin and Peretz who played for us last season, JWP has been our signing of the summer.
