Heard on the radio that it is likely (if not confirmed) that few laws are coming from 1 July (and possibly implemented at the World Cup).

If I heard it right.....

  • time bound with throw-ins
  • Time bound with subs
  • Time bound with corners
  • Time bound with goal kick from the 6 yard box
  • VAR can intervene for 2nd yellows
  • VAR can intervene for the awarding of a corner.

Possibly others.

Not sure about the additional VAR suggestions, but I guess VAR is not going away. But I do like the time restrictions...so much is wasted by a player plodding from the other side of the pitch to take a corner in order to waste time.

Wish they'd just use a big electronic clock. Starts at 45.00 and only counts down towards 0.00 when the ball is in play. Simple.

Roll around like you've been shot. Order some crutches to help take 5 mins to limp off of the pitch. Do what you want. That clock ain't moving until the game starts again.

Loads of other non-traditional stuff is in the game nowadays. Why not this? If it means a half would then take 60 mins then just cut the clock to 40 mins of playing time (or whatever - it would end time-wasting and that's what most fans want).

Plus at 0.00 the game ENDS. No added time if a 'big team' is losing.

Agreed, but 45 minutes per half is too long. Have the clock set a bit shorter, since actual ball in play is shorter than that (ignoring unnecessary stoppages).

No 'time bound' for VAR checks though?

so stop the time wasting on the left hand but give it back with the right, football is meant to be 90 minutes of play so play it and dont forget the poor little darlings are allowed umpteen subs so i dont see the problem. However it will never happen as pep will stick his whining nose in and that will be that because as we know city are untouchable.

Why?

It really doesn't take long to identify something that is "clear and obvious" does it?

The time consuming ones are line decisions not the  subjective ones.

For a whole host of reasons but predominantly because sticking a clock in the face of people who are trying (and in some cases struggling) to make high pressure decisions wouldn’t make it run any smoother, clearer or better. It would lead to assumptions, guesswork and rushing (even more some would say).

Not really.

If it's not "clear and obvious" then VAR resorts back to the onfield decision.

No more need for lengthy delays and would get referees back to making decisions not relying on VAR to save them.

If you want precision and absolutes, don't bother watching sport!

What football really needs is more laws.

I don't know, I can see the addition of another 0.75 points per match if your xg is >1.8, your possession is > 67% and you have scored = 1 goal, being good ...

Read my post again. Even in matches that don’t have unnecessary stoppages (like feigned injuries) the time the ball is in play is less than 90 minutes.

VAR for corners in ridiculous. Which big team conceded a goal from a corner that shouldn't have been for this to be considered.

I fear this will quickly morph from "who did the ball come off of last", to "was XYZ offside" or "was there a foul/handball etc in the build up". Its bad enough pausing the game for controversy over a goal/offside/penalty/red card... now we're moving towards inflating the ego of video refs everytime the ball goes out of play... Like fucking hell, imagine being in a crowd and for every corner there is a pause for VAR checks.... Those moments in games where a team can pile on the pressure and barrage a defence with 4-5corners in a row... that will be over and done with, they'll get loads of extra time to compose themselves and reset in between each one.... the more frantic the action on a given corner, the longer the pause... they're killing the game with stuff like this i fear. Maybe i'm overreacting and they'll limit this to a 10second review of who it came off - but i bloody doubt it.

Except what people want is the right decision which if is clearly and obviously available if somebody just took a little more time to find it, seems perfectly reasonable. Your approach is all lovely as an idea down the pub but the moment you stick a 30 second/1 or 2 minute clock on it and Paul Tierny is thrashing around trying to find the right camera angles and the countdown clock is playing and Gary Neville is screaming on the TV and the crowd is cheering the last 10 seconds it all becomes a bit daft and messy. Especially when 20 seconds after the clock run out Sky roll out a clear and obvious angle showing the VAR missed something.
