Any takers for Illan Meslier on a free as back up keeper? Lost his way after early promise, but a good age, 26, with plenty of experience.

Vaguely remember him supposedly being shown around Staplewood before opting to join Leeds, way back when.

He's not bad, as a back up he'd be fine but I suspect he'd want first team football.

I'd take him but not sure he'd want to be second choice and this stage in his career.

Loan ended, wasn't even making the bench end of last season. Would be shocked if we saw him in a Saints shirt again.

Ah, that explains it, thanks😊

Not sure if it has been mentioned anywhere yet but as I understand it, Bree has agreed his contract extension.

What options did he have anyway? Who else would want him as first choice RB? He's nowhere near PL level so we are probably his best and only chance of playing there again.

ref right back, what has happened to Jelert? Seems to have fallen off the radar.

far too lightweight. Really poor piece of scouting whoever brought him here.

Nah, Leeds fans called him the hologram for a good reason. He is as bad as Bazunu.

Can't agree with that. He stood out in 24/25 as one of the only actual PL standard players in our squad.

Saints have signed German striker Noel Futkeu from Fürth Bavaria

If we have signed him the report is nevertheless wrong. Frankfurt sold him in the summer of 2024 for £250k and have just bought him back for £1.3m.  No doubt that, if we have agreed to buy him, we shall pay well over the latter figure, but to Frankfurt.  He is 23 and 6ft tall and scored 19 goals and had 5 assists in 34 games last season in Bundesliga 2; 11 and 3 in 34 in 24/25.

At least his initials are not DD.

An unlikely source for a new signing; I’ll believe it when I see it announced in a more reliable source.  I agree, CC.

All hail the German Drogba 😄

Sadly the rumour looks like potential rubbish, has just re-signed for Frankfurt, although its possible they intend to sell him on for a profit.

He popped up the other day on an ai search I did, and I think he'd be a good signing for us

I just don't know if there's any truth to it all

I reckon we’ll keep Jander and Leo for another season.  THB and Charles will leave for decent money.

I would think Spors has their replacements lined up already.  Hopefully more Casper and Leo than Damian Downs.

Keeping two of those 4 would be a major coup.

So... where are we at in terms of our squad? Including up-and-coming academy players I think it is as follows:

Keepers: Peretz, Long, Bazunu, Wright, (Moody)

  • McCarthy/Jones to be released, Bazunu to be sold/loaned out.
  • Moody to be loaned out? Wright to become 2nd or 3rd keeper?

Right backs: Bree, Roerslev, Sugawara, (Whittaker)

  • Sugawara may be sold unless Eckert likes his potential

Left Backs: Manning and Welington

  • Jelert's loan not renewed; Larios to be sold/loaned out/released
  • Will 4/5 FBs be enough?

Centre Backs: Wood, Stephens, THB, Quarshie

  • THB may be sold - replacement to be bought (Especially if Quarshie is still too far off being ready)

Defensive/Progressive Midfielders: Downes, Bragg, Jander, S. Charles, (Williams, Sesay)

  • Shea and/or Jander may be sold with replacement(s) probably bought, unless Williams and/or Sesay are considered ready to be promoted to first team.

Attacking Midfielders: Azaz, (B. Charles, O'Brien-Whitmarsh) [NB Archer and Matsuki can also cover here if necessary]

  • Extra AM to be bought (or a winger with Matsuki moving to AM)

Wingers: Scienza, Fellows, Matsuki, Edozie, (Dibaga)  [NB Archer can also cover here if necessary]

  • Scienza and/or Edozie may be sold or loaned out and replacement(s) sought

Strikers: Larin, Stewart, Archer, (Oyekunle, Akachukwu, Dipepa, Ehibhatiomhan)

  • Stewart may not renew contract; Archer may also leave
  • Will replacements be brought in or will Oyekunle and/or other youngster be promoted?

There's the likes of Ramsdale, Sanda, Rento and of course Downs and BBD to take into account.

@Over land and sea's first post in the

thread is always good. It's where I learned that Sesay had been playing at left back, possibly giving us another option there.

We sold him to cheaply

We sold to the highest bidder presumably, and his value certainly wouldn’t have increased after a season in the Championship.

We also got the sell-on clause in there, which means that eventually what we sold for will be approx £50m

Good player, potential to be worth that money, but how is that a real fee for last seasons performance. Also add in WHU's current situation. He'll leave for nearer 60m.

We all knew he was a top player and if we have survived would perhaps be able to ask for similar money. I guess two seasons in the PL shows that he is not a flash in the pan, not to mention he can do it at a different club. Plus he scored a couple of blinders, which really helps you get noticed. Just shows that he made the right move leaving us. Would United be calling if he had had a decent season with us in the championship? I doubt it.

Ross going is bloody irritating. Thanks for the promise shown eventually.... But clearly no loyalty. (Yes, I know....)

Very annoying to have finally have seen what we paid for on transfer deadline day three years ago, only for him to depart so soon after. Is there no way the parties agree a deal in the coming weeks or is this a definitive "all potential deals are off"?

Does it mean hes contract is up but there's still a possibility of signing a new one or just its confirmed he's off (most likely due to having an agreement elsewhere to start in July?)

Overall he was a disaster of a signing due to being injured and missing so so many games over the 4 years

Agree. Didn't get nearly enough out of him to justify the outlay. A terrible signing.

It’s a problem for us now having to find a replacement for Ross with no fee incoming. Technically our best striker but always had that worry he was going to break down again and we have had to manage him very carefully. I am disappointed he hasn’t shown loyalty here but appreciate this will be his last big contract and he could get injured walking up his stairs at home, he’s just looking after number 1. Very interested to see where he goes and what we do with regards to his replacement.

Do you mean he is 100% signing on or do you mean it’s surprising we haven’t announced if he has?

Piss poor from Stewart and his representatives. He obviously has a club lined up already, no chance would they risk him playing competitive football for Scotland without an employer.

Ross was made of glass. Glad he’s going.
we literally nursed him throughout his time here.
always waiting for him to break down with an injury and be out again.
now fill his spot with someone that can give a contribution for 90 mins.

It’s a shame to lose Stewart for free, he’s given us so little over his contract that I think he owes us. That said, it’ll be nice to not have to worry about our striker getting a season ending injury more often than not. We need SR to avoid messing this replacement up, as good as Larin is, I don’t want to be relying on him to score the goals to get us up, especially starting on -4…

I don't think it will be particularly easy to replace him with similar quality unfortunately

Stewart is partly down to us dicking about I thought - now he is open to a last hoorah pay day with a no strings signing on fee elsewhere - unless we are still talking in the background.  Still if he gets wiped out in the next couple of weeks at the WC - we won't be needing to pick up the pieces.

Agreed. SR record of signing strikers is pretty awful.

Well he can't sign for anyone else until the window opens or possibly 30th June when his contract with us expires. If he picks up an injury playing in the World Cup he may find himself in the position of having no club and a contract with us running down at the end of the month. I hope his agent has taken a belt and bracers approach to this for his sake.
