I understand that's how it works to some extent.

At least as good or better was the quote. They'd have to hit consecutive home runs at this point in order to effectively replace those four players now. Not impossible but incredibly difficult. Depressing isn’t it. I expect most players are sick of our lack of ambition, repeatedly missing out on main targets, lots of big talk and little action then having their chances of premier league football snatched away by the absurdity of events in May. It’s been an absolute shit show since they replaced Lawrie with Chris Nichol. 2 2 1

Toussaint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago This has the feel of a post relegation season, with vultures circling for our best talent. Yes yes, I know everyone one has their price blah blah. But this is a consequence of failing to secure an immediate return to the prem. Hopefully Spors &co have suitable replacements lined up.

Disco Stu Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago This is what he said a couple of months ago. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c4g8gkre4exo Quote "If we would let some players go, it would have to be a really good offer for the club and also for the player. "On the other hand, I think we have a very capable scouting team, and we are monitoring a huge number of players." Players including Leo Scienza, Shea Charles and Taylor Harwood-Bellis played a key role and could now gather the attention of Premier League sides this summer. While Solak said the club do not need to sell their best players, if an offer makes sense to them, they would not stand in their way. "We don't have any pressure (to sell) that's for sure," Solak added. "We want to have the best possible team and do what is good for certain players, in order to keep the flow of talent coming, sometimes it's needed to show the next step. "If a player wants to play for Manchester United, if a young player thinks I'm not ready for them but I should go to Southampton because they will give me a chance and develop me, I will end up where I dream. "So at the moment we have our place in the food chain which I'm not necessarily against, and we'll see whether we can change this reality in years to come, but this is where we are now."

Very obviously we will have to wait until the end of the window to see what signings we make. If we do sell the remaining three big players at this point though (not saying we will) then we will still be significantly disadvantaged by the fact that we will have to bed in a load of new players when having a fast start is more imperative than ever. 3
hypochondriac Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Instinctively I don't believe this. If it were true and I were West ham I'd be bidding 25 million immediately and absolutely pissing the league. I don't think we'd sell him that low.

Saint Matty 76 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Jack Rosser is incredibly reliable for us so I’d imagine that’s true. Not a good figure whatsoever especially to come out a day before the season starts. I’d have expected at least the same as we got for Shea. £25m, which City would get £1m of, take away another £8m or so for Ahmedhodzic as the replacement leaves us with around £16m profit from the moves. It’s okay financially, but I see THB as the real leader of this team and think it’d be a huge blow for that reason. However I expected to lose THB, Jander and Scienza without much of a fuss so I can’t be too surprised. 2
Patches O Houlihan Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago 1 hour ago, bangkoksaint said: I think we have to hold our nerve and see where we’re at come the end of the window. However that said, given the speculation around current players and who we’ve got through the door so far I’m not overly impressed. So signing the best goalkeeper in the league and a Canadian international who scored a load of useful goals when unfit, is now fit, knows the system and really wants to be here - despite us having a 4 point deduction and a manager under threat from the FA - that's unimpressive is it? I bet your wife makes Sekou Mara's mum look like Shrek. 3

We can only assume that despite past incompetence, Sports Republic at least have contingency plans for selling those three. Right? 🤪
HarvSFC Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Why would one of the first names on the team sheet be valued lower than a player who was in and out of our side? After selling one key player, it should be harder for buying teams to sign another from us, not easier. £25m? Would rather try and get the Premier League money.
Saint86 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) 4 hours ago, Pilchards said: Actually bumped into a Saints employee and I will 100% not say where or what role they have at the club. Our top four players want to go as they want to better themselves elsewhere. The club will only sell them if the right offers come on. One has gone already while it’s obvious THB is getting the attention at the moment. Expect Leo and Jander to be off next but I personally can’t see them entertaining any offers from anyone right now unless it blows the bloody door down. I suppose when you have a famous father in law who’s played the game at the very top level asking you why are you still playing for little Southampton again this season then it makes sense he wants moving on. Charles wasn't one of our top 4 players. Most people accepted at the start of the summer that it was likely we'd lose 2, and it was generally considered a good result if we only sold 1 of the big names this summer, I don't see it as anything changing 🤷 If someone offers us near £30M for scienza we should take it imo. Similarly, it's a luxury in the championship to have a £25-£30M CB. Spors will do very well with those kind of funds to tailor the squad to Tonda's liking. Edited 3 hours ago by Saint86

Winnersaint Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I thought I heard reported that the club were already looking into contingency for losing THB months ago maybe in Dragan's initial comments post spygate where he stated that no Year 1 contracted players would be sold unless it was for mega offers. Scienza, Jander, Azaz. Personally if you're playing in the Champions League your profile as prospective international centre back has to be enhanced whichever League you are playing in. I think THB achieved his redemption arc in the latter half of the season when eventually playing in a system that suited him. He has nothing to prove and at 24 and three seasons with us its time for the next step.

Also don't disagree that it's not a move to begrudge THB for, I'd just want us to be holding out for the same fee as Charles. £25m feels really weak to me. Also to go a little MLG on you Benfica didn't actually qualify for the CL this season.

Originally I thought the tears were because she felt her exclusion was unjust. However, trying to find out why she was crying proved a little more problematic. I offered to get a female member of staff to come and talk to her but eventually she confided that her "minge" hurt. I had no words. 1 3
