When we play Bolton we must ensure we try nothing but worldies...he only lets those ones in....plus everything at the near post and shots generally in the middle of the goal

hit them low and close to him, it'll either get a bobble or deflection and he'll pat it into the back of his net.

Jesus, that's bad. Lavia the only standout. Alcaraz was ok but the rest terrible.

So our midfield options will be Downes, Jander, JWP, Bragg and Matsuki.

Very lightweight imo.

Personally, I would say that's 3 of the best central midfielders in the division - and we will only play 2 of them at any time. Plus we have azaz in front of them (potentially rotating with JWP).

I thought Alcaraz was signed in the January window.

But that doesn’t detract from the point being made tends to enforce it as January was just as bad. I liked Alcarez and Bree has eventually been given opportunity to prove himself but then think Tall Paul, and Orsic (again ??? How could he be so bad ?).

Ollie Wright joined in 2012 and despite being out on loan, is still a Southampton player.

Is Jander staying or going? What's happening there?

What are the permutations required to keep THB?

Larios was a baller. Remember after his first (only?) appearance stating he would never ever be a premier league full back due to his size.... Was reminded on here that Messi is also very small...

A top season for Southampton in Football Manager.

While potential isn't fixed, a lot of those could/would develop into very good PL players.

A bit of development would see you with an excellent PL team of.

Baz
Livramento, Bella-Kotchap, Salisu, Larios
Stu, JWP, Lavia, Edozie
Che
Mara

Pretty much the way it worked out in the real world.

He has vision issues.

Any shot from 20 yards or more from goal, and he really struggles to grasp where the ball is.

We just need to shoot from outside the box against Bolton and we will score a hatful.

Still, good luck, Gav.

I've been on holiday this week so have only been lightly following the news. So we're in a position (currently), going in to the last weekend of the window, where we really only need a back up GK (or have to worry week in week out that Peretz could get injured or suspended and we have to rely on Long. With Baz gone (phew) hopefully that frees up some wages. Ramsdale will go too but even if he doesn't, from a fan perspective I wouldn't mind keeping him for 6 months as back up! Whatever happens I really hope we have a better back up GK by Tuesday than Long.

CB obviously depends if THB stays, I just hope we have our contingency plan sorted out if he goes. I see there have been one or two links for other centre backs so that's promising.

RB and LB fine.

CM fine now with JWP, although he does need to try and replicate the impact we got from Shea as a squad CM. A late big for Jander would not be welcomed... we'd need a good replacement if that happened.

RW - wishful thinking we'd upgrade but we have 2 Championship quality players there and I'd give both a chance to prove their worth. There is also the January window if needed.

LW - Leo, obviously, but will Edozie stay? , I know Dobbie can play here but I see him as more of an Azaz back up going forwards and if Edozie went, I'd want another, although with Akachukwu breaking through, if he doesn't go on loan then maybe we're going to give him a chance.

AM - Azaz and Dobbie are fine, Matsuki can play here too.

Striker - Larin obviously number one, it seems the club have a lot of faith in Mubama. Archer is still here too, that's our 3 unless things change in the next 3 days, which is possible as there have been links both in and out. I assume Downs will head out on loan.

All in all I don't think we're in bad shape now, but it depends how good Schlotterbeck is (please don't be another Lyanco) and whether JWP can recapture his form after the last few years

We've only got one that's ever available.

I was sceptical about JWP return. Now he is here, full weight behind him and will be bellowing ‘Jame’s Ward-Prowse my lord…’ from the stands.

there is a reason Fulham signed Charles for 30million and JWP came to us for 800k. I still think we are lighter in this area.

first two games of the season, we’ve looked exposed in front of the back four (compounded by some less than savoury work by Stephens [in particular] and Woods) - hopefully the new CB sures us up here and we keep hold of THB.

And I know it’s very very early days but Dobbin has not convinced (I, know, I know… off the bench / goal involvement and all that), and not seen anything from Mubama to convince me he’s not a downgrade on Stewart (I know, I know… scored against Stoke, different type of player and all that)

Fellows a really tough one to call. Watching him in games, he’s often looking to make all the right runs, wand the ball in front of him, but still not quite having the impact you need for such a direct player.

All that to say, with poetry and sentiment aside, I’m not convinced that we are stronger in the middle or up front  than we were last year. A fit and firing Jander will certainly help. But if I was being greedy; I’d still want to shift out Cam Archer (along with the obvious other candidates)  and bring in another striker as well as potentially RW and another CB depending on THB of course.

I think everyone can see what is needed.

Certainly a fit Jander will sort out the CM role while a new striker is most certainly coming before Tuesday.

Then it leaves us with needing someone to replace fellows on the right flank.

If THB goes then 100% another CB.

I’m confident that should help this team start to move up the league table.

Where do the club see Matsuki's position? If it is also RW then you can't really have three on the RW. Matsuki is a bit of a nothing player really who doesn't excel in any particular position.

Our worst signing was Ali Dia (probably Baz, but) although I'd say this one ranks as comparable. Money for a few under 21 appearances, a few loans which were not made permanent (so he wasn't worth buying) perhaps a few minutes in the first team, several years on the books and probably several years doing nothing or sick.

So while AD was bad, he was binned off quickly. This one hasn't been. And he seems to have been of less use than Fourpost.

Very much doubt it. It doesn’t sound like the club are intending Mubama to be 3rd choice. Reckon it’ll just be him and Larin then reassess in January
